Mediation The certificate program in mediation introduces participants to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and the process and skills of mediation. It provides 40 hours of training, which is a state and national standard for entry-level mediators. The course is designed for individuals who are interested in mediating or applying the process of mediation to their profession or in their workplace. Students earn 40 Contact Hours, 4.0 CEUs, 16 CLE credits, and 1 Ethics credit. PROGRAM The program addresses the following topics in a highly interactive format with demonstrations, exercises, simulations, and role playing: • Definition and roles of the mediator • Stages of the mediation process • Conflict diagnoses and interventions • Diversity and bias awareness • Professional standards and ethics • Effective communication interventions • Power imbalance identification and management skills Program participants come from many different kinds of organizations and professions including law, education, business, nonprofits, and government. In some cases people attend with the goal of becoming a mediator for the court system or as a community volunteer. It is an intense week of learning and role playing after which participants routinely express great satisfaction with what they have learned and the process of mediation. She has mediated hundreds of cases over the last 15 years in a wide range of disputes, including commercial, family and divorce, small claims and community conflicts. Diane speaks and writes about mediation frequently and teaches the ADR survey course as adjunct faculty at Maine Law School. William Devane Logue Bill Logue teaches Negotiation and Representation in Mediation and is a Senior Fellow and Director of Training Programs at the Quinnipiac Law School Center on Dispute Resolution. Logue has been a mediator, facilitator, consensus builder, trainer and consultant since 1986. He mediates employment, workplace, commercial, construction, environmental, and other matters. Logue has led public policy consensus building work and facilitation on a variety of environmental issues in the Northeast.
