• Check the name of the patient on the order.• Ask patient to identify himself/herself.

• Check the medication label.• Never administer drug that is not labeled.• Check the order.

another nurse calculate the dose as well.

• Verify the drug route.• Check the order and appropriateness of the
route ordered.• Confirm that the patient can take or receive
the medication by the ordered route.
Right Route

• Check the frequency of the ordered medication.
• Double-check that you are giving the ordered dose at the correct time.
• Confirm when was the last dose given to the patient.

• Chart the medication or drug, dosage, time, route, and any other specific information as necessary.

• Revisit the reasons for long-term medication use.
