This Congress continues the series of International Symposia on Fresh Water from the Sea, which were previously held under the chairman- ship of Prof. Dr. A.A. Delyannis, Athens (Greece). The Congress is registered as the 286th Event of the EFChE. DECHEMA, Deutsche Gesellschaft fiir chemisches Apparatewesen, Frankfurt am Main (F.R.G.), and Associazione Italiana di Ingegneria Chimica, Milan0 (Italy}, are responsible for the organiza- tion of the Congress. The official languages of the Congress will be English, French and German, but English will be preferred. The scientific programme will include the following topics. Session A : Water Re-use and Recovery; Scale Formation and Fouling in Membrane Devices; Membrane Processes; Membrane Preparation; Characterisation of Membrane Structure and Transport Across Synthetic Membranes. Session B: Energetics and Economics of Desalination Processes; Scale Formation and Fouling in Distillation Devices; Solar Freezing Processes; Distillation Processes (Experimental); Distillation Processes (Design and Simulation); Distillation Processes (Large Size Plant Experiences); Materials and Corrosion. Papers on the above subjects will be presented in oral and in poster sessions. The Congress will last five days and will be followed by excursions and field trips to desalination plants in Italy. There will also be a social programme and events for accompanying persons. In addition there will be an exhibition of desalination equipment.
