Supporting your IB student

For the 2 years of IB we ask parents to

Become MORE involved! Help keep them organized! Continue to motivate them!

How to deal with marks

IB is NOT the same old evaluation

•Teachers will communicate how students can raise their IB scores in tests, assignments, other assessments

•Students must figure out this NEW way of “scoring”

•Final IB scores in a subject are NOT just a cumulative set of scores

•We are working towards a “7” over the course of 2 years

What if the marks are not what we expect

Compare first year university to first year IB There needs to be an adjustment period Students can continue to move higher in their scores

as they continue with the IB programme Are we seeing differences in their WAY they are doing

things We are DEVELOPING the attributes of the Learner

Profile

Will all this work really pay off

YES More and more Canadian Universities are recognizing

the IB Diploma as a step above• Dalhousie University, University of Saskatchewan

Students will have a more flexible university course load (advanced standing credits)

Students will be better prepared to deal with the stress of university

We hear anecdotal evidence of IB students doing more and being given more opportunities while at university
