The project comprises of two phases; Phase 1 encompasses development of a Master Plan, design of perimeter wall, 100m2 office block, rigid pavement, earthworks & drainage works. Phase 2 consists of an Inland Container Depot (ICD) facilities & warehousing facilities. Detailed preview of Flood Risk Assessment & Drainage Master Plan for Kampala Industrial Park, Namanve

Uganda Investment Authority is in the process of implementing new road & drainage infrastructure investments in the Kampala Industrial & Business Park, Namanve. The site is in a flood prone area & requires carefully designed drainage & flood protection measures including consideration of climate change impacts. MEIR detailed reviews of the Flood Risk Assessment & Storm Drainage Masterplan developed for the Industrial Park. Based on the study, recommendations for update of the drainage & flood management measures for the Park were proposed.

Detailed Design of Uganda Coastal Communication Infrastructure

The Ministry of Defence & Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) plans to establish the Uganda Coastal Defense System at Lake Albert & Edward comprising of 3 radar sites, a control center, & 9 camera sites. MEIR undertook topographic surveys, geotechnical investigations, civil/structural design of the communication infrastructure & access roads design.

Sediment Transport Study for Nengo Small Hydropower Project (7MW)

Hydromax Nengo Bridge Ltd plans to establish Nengo Small Hydropower Plant along River Mitano. To ensure that the plant serves its intended design period, MEIR undertook a detailed sediment transport study & proposed mitigation measures to alleviate the negative impacts of sediment on the plant operations.

Data Collection for Mitigation Potential Analysis and Scenario Development in Uganda’s Transport Sector

The Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC) agreed to develop Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. To systematically assess GHG emissions from the Uganda transport sector, MEIR was contracted by GIZ to undertake a detailed sectoral mitigation potential analysis through data collection and stakeholder consultations on future trends.

Tender Assistance & Construction Supervision of Bollore ICD Reconstruction of Perimeter wall, Gate & Gatehouse

MEIR was commissioned by Bollore Transport & Logistics Ltd to design a two-storey office block, perimeter wall, guardhouse & attendant sanitation facilities. MEIR also provided comprehensive design reports, CAD drawings of the engineering designs & cost estimates & provided tender assistance & construction supervision services for the project.

Structural Integrity Assessment of Namanve Thermal Power Plant.

The 50MW Namanve Thermal Power Plant, constructed & previously operated by Jacobsen Elektro, a Norwegian power production will be handed over to Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL). Prior to the hand-over, MEIR was contracted by Zutari Pty Ltd to undertake a structural integrity assessment of the plant.

Following Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA)’s request to provide Design & Build services for the five failed bridges, Terrain Services Ltd engaged MEIR to undertake topographic surveys, geotechnical investigations, hydrological studies & hydraulics & structural design of Nyamugasani Bridge (span 30m), Kyanya Bridge (span 30m), Apaa Bridge (span 15m), Isango Bridge (span 15m) & Lotoketangisira Bridge (span 20m). MEIR also availed comprehensive design reports, CAD drawings & bills of quantities for the project.

Detailed Design Review of Mbale Water Supply and Sanitation Project

High Volume Transport (HVT) Covid -19 Response Recovery Transport Research Project

Following the transportation restrictions imposed during the COVID 19 pandemic, a study was undertaken to understand the current policy positions regarding temporary bicycle lanes & flexible pilots in the project cities; the political attitude towards agile bicycle interventions, & approaches by activists; & to identify the promising strategic ‘routes’ for action in Cape town, Nairobi & Kampala. MEIR undertook stakeholder consultations, transport data collection, developed indices for the proposed assessment matrix & developed a model to assess likely changes in mode share for the corridors considered in Kampala

Detailed Design of Alla Bridge, Gazi Bridge and Aca – Multicell box culverts in Arua District

MEIR was contracted by Terrain Services Limited to complete detailed design of Alla Bridge (11m) in Anzuu, Gazi Bridge (25m) & Aca Multicell box culverts in Rhino Camp. MEIR also provided detailed approach road & gabion wall designs, comprehensive design reports, Civil 3D drawings, & bills of quantities for the project.

Detailed Design of Buyende, Kaberamaido and Kagwara Ferry Landing Sites on Lake Kyoga

Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) seeks to connect the districts of Buyende, Kaberamaido and Serere surrounding Lake Kyoga. Consequently, MEIR was engaged by Terrain Services Ltd to design supporting infrastructure of the ferry landing sites such as the cradle, warehouse, & waiting shed. MEIR also availed comprehensive design reports, CAD drawings & bills of quantities for the project.

Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) seeks to upgrade the 105 km Kyenjojo (Kahunge)- Nyarukoma-Kigarale- Rwamwanja- Kihura Road. Within this context, MEIR was contracted by SMEC International Pty to carry out comprehensive hydrological studies, hydraulic analysis, & detailed design of hydraulic structures such as bridges, culverts, & side drains along the Kihura-Kahunge & Mpara-Bwizi road sections.
