Display buttons and capacitive switches

Display buttons and capacitive switches

• Inspired by the two-door Mercedes-AMG GT, the center console of the new 4-door

model represents a further special feature: color display buttons, integrated into the

distinctive and tailor-made trim element. The integral display can adjust the

transmission, suspension, ESP®, exhaust system, start/stop function and rear spoiler

position. These display buttons use colored and intuitive symbols to show various

functions and are easy to operate with just a small tap of the finger.

• Display push-button switches are supplemented by two capacitive switches for the

drive programs and volume control.

• Another new feature from AMG are the capacitive switches directly in front of the

stylized center-console V. The reversing camera, navigation, radio, media, telephone

and vehicle settings can be operated via this proximity switch. If the occupant’s finger

moves within a minimal distance from the panel the appropriate symbol lights up

directly in the head unit and preselects the menu item. The function in question is then

activated by pressing. The driver does not have to remove their eyes from the road, as

the appropriate menu item is shown simultaneously in the multifunction display of the

Widescreen Cockpit, representing an added bonus for handling safety.

Active Rear-Wheel Steering

Active Rear-Wheel Steering

• The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe responds even more sensitively to steering commands

thanks to the active rear axle steering which is standard on the V8 models (n/a on

AMG GT 53). The system facilitates an even better combination of agility and stability

and thus reinforces the dynamism and the handling safety of the new AMG GT 4-Door

Coupe.

• Up to a speed of 62 mph, the rear wheels point in the opposite direction to the front

wheels (up to 0.5°) via two electric actuator motors. As a result, the car turns into

corners with significantly higher agility. Under everyday driving conditions, the driver

also benefits from a small turning circle.

• At speeds higher than 62 mph, the system turns the rear wheels (up to 1.3°) in the

same direction as the front wheels, which noticeably improves driving stability. At the

same time, the lateral force on the rear wheels builds up considerably faster on

changes of direction, thus improving the response to the steering. The driver can also

rely on extreme rear-axle grip and high stability when changing direction quickly,

without the usual tendency for the rear end to break loose.

3.0L Inline-6 Turbo Engine w/ EQ Boost3.0L Inline-6 Turbo Engine w/ EQ Boost (M256)

The M256 engine found in AMG “53” models provides exceptional power output thanks to

exciting new technologies:

• EQ Boost:

• The M256 utilizes a 48V system to provide power to the electric water pump, AC

compressor, Electric Auxiliary Compressor. With these components now being electrified, the

engine is now fully beltless, reducing wearable parts.

• EQ Boost makes use of the stored electric power from the 48V battery with an “Integrated

Starter-Generator” which combines the starter and alternator in a powerful electric motor which

is positioned between the engine and transmission. This EQ Boost unit assists the internal

combustion engine with up to 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque at low engine speeds.

• Please note that this boost in hp / torque never impacts the certified peak power figures, as the

boost is generated at such low engine speeds, and only for brief periods of time.

• On overrun, EQ Boost is able to recover up to 80 percent of the energy to the 48V battery.

• The engine is able to start very quietly by utilizing stored power in the 48V battery. ECO

Start/Stop is also almost imperceptible now that is uses the EQ Boost system.

• Please note that the 48V battery is small- it is a little less than 1 kWh in capacity.

• The conventional 12V battery is still used by the vehicle and is charged by the 48V battery.

Most electrical vehicle components remain wired for 12V and thus, the 12V battery is used to

provide power for cabin lights, exterior lighting, the multimedia system, etc.

• Electric Auxiliary Compressor:

• This new engine component (exclusive to the “53” models) is able to assist in spooling the

engine’s exhaust-gas-driven turbocharger quickly and effectively at low-to-mid RPMs. Able to

get up to speeds of 70,000 RPMs within less than a third of a second, the eAC is extremely

quick to provide added boost. This allows a much larger turbocharger to be employed in this

version of the M256. In some cases, boost from the Electric Auxiliary Compressor is able to be

routed directly to the engine itself.

• In one minute, the Electric Auxiliary Compressor is able to function three times for two seconds,

or one time for 15 seconds.

Mechanical Limited Slip Differential

Standard on AMG GT 53

The AMG mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential uses

multiplate clutches and two thrust rings. When drive torque

is applied to the rear axle, the thrust rings operate the

multiplate clutch to suit the requirements. If a difference in

the rotational speed of the driven wheels arises, torque is

directed to the wheel with better road adhesion in order to

reduce slip.

Electronic Limited Slip Differential

Standard on GT 63 and GT 63 S

The AMG electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential uses

an electrically controlled multi-disc clutch system which is

adjusted by means of an electric motor. Electronic control

of the clutch pack allows for near-instantaneous torque

distribution to the wheel with better road adhesion,

increased comfort when maneuvering in urban traffic,

better performance in both dry-weather performance

testing and in inclement weather, and provides a wider

spread between dynamic driving and comfortable cruising.
