PARISHIONER PROFILEServing as Executive Director of the Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops (LCCB) for nearly a year, Rob Tasman is the chief lobbyist for the Catholic Church with the Governor’s OEce and State Legislature. He is no stranger to this arm of government, having served as Associate Director of the LCCB for 6 years prior to his promotion.
Ke LCCB is the policy making arm of the seven Catholic bishops of Louisiana. Tasman works closely with the bishops, promoting Catholic issues in the public square. During the Legislative Session each year, Tasman represents the bishops on bills involving social justice, pro-life, and family life issues. He studies bills and speaks to legislators about the ePects of education reforms and state budget cuts on the less fortunate. He strives to be a voice for the voiceless.
Tasman, originally from New York, is a graduate of Boston College where he received his bachelor’s degree and a masters of theology. Also a graduate of Boston College, his wife Katie (née Dietz), received her master’s degree in pastoral ministries from the same institution. AVer moving to Baton Rouge (Katie’s hometown), Tasman received his law degree from LSU in 2008.
Grounded in their faith, the Tasmans have set the foundation of spiritual lessons for their four young sons. Ke family incorporates prayer and spiritual lessons as part of their daily routine. Ke couple works hard to keep the balance of daily demands by keeping their family as the top priority. Each day the family practices an examination of conscience and talks about what each believes was the best part of their day. Teaching their boys that life is not always perfect, they are careful not to leave out the struggles, using those diEcult events of the day as teachable moments.
Ke Tasmans were welcomed into the Mercy family three years ago. Key have four young sons; Mack (entering 2nd grade), Kevin (entering 1st grade), Joseph, and Samuel.

A Father’s BlessingFather,
I thank you for the gic of my family for whom I now pray and upon whom I now ask you to shower your blessings. With St. Joseph as my guide, may I always be ready to spend my life for them.
Bless my wife whom you have given to me as my spouse, sharing in your wondrous work of creation. May I see her as my equal and treat her with the love of Christ for his Church. May Mary be her guide and help her to find your peace and your grace.
Bless my children with your life and presence. May the example of your son be the foundation upon which their lives are built, that the Gospel may always be their hope and support.
I ask you, Father, to protect and bless my family. Watch over it so that in the strength of your love its members may enjoy prosperity, possess the gic of your peace and, as the Church alive in this home, always bear witness to your glory in the world.
Amen

With prayerful consideration, we encourage you to sponsor a high schooler to attend Camp Hidden Lake this summer. While any donation is greatly appreciated, we ask that you would consider a donation of $500 for our Life Teen members to attend Camp Hidden Lake. We also ask that you would keep us in prayer, entrusting us to the Immaculate Heart and Merciful Heart of Our Lady.

Our Lady of Mercy has nourished the spiritual life of so many parishioners and those throughout the Diocese who come here. A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION DURING HURRICANE SEASON
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices
of your children. !e Sea of Galilee obeyed Your Son’s command,
when He calmed the stormy waters and delivered the disciples from
fear and harm. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O
Loving Lord, for your Mercy is without end. Spare us from tragedies
like those of the past and keep us safe in your loving care.
O Virgin Mother, Star of the Sea, we seek your powerful help. Plead for
us with Your Son that we might be spared all harm, whether natural or
made by human hand, and walk safely in His footsteps until we reach our heavenly home.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us!

ADORATION CHAPEL
SAINT OF THE WEEK
St. Cyril of Alexandria (376-444)
FEAST DAY: June 27
Cyril, recognized as a great teacher of the Church, began his career as archbishop of Alexandria, Egypt, with impulsive, oOen violent, actions. He pillaged and closed the churches of the Novatian heretics (who required those who denied the faith to be rebaptized), participated in the deposing of St. John Chrysostom and confiscated Jewish property, expelling the Jews from Alexandria in retaliation for their attacks on Christians.
Cyril’s importance for theology and Church history lies in his championing the cause of orthodoxy against the heresy of Nestorius, who taught that in Christ there were two persons, one human and one divine.
Xe controversy centered around the two natures in Christ. Nestorius would not agree to the title “God-bearer” for Mary. He preferred “Christ-bearer,” saying there are two distinct persons in Christ (divine and
human) joined only by a moral union. He said Mary was not the mother of God but only of the man Christ, whose humanity was only a temple of God. Nestorianism implied that the humanity of Christ was a mere disguise.
Presiding as the pope’s representative at the Council of Ephesus (431), Cyril condemned Nestorianism and proclaimed Mary truly the “God-bearer” (the mother of the one Person who is truly God and truly human). In the confusion that followed, Cyril was deposed and imprisoned for three months, aOer which he was welcomed back to Alexandria.
Until his death, his policy of moderation kept his extreme partisans under control. On his deathbed, despite pressure, he refused to condemn the teacher of Nestorius.
