Merrtt to get poc-ng agreement adt
BC's new Auditor General for LocalGovernment (AGLG) announced thefirst performance audits involving anumber of local governments. Merrittwill be among 6 municipalities (Port Al-
berni, Surrey, Williams Lake, Victoriaand New Westminster) that will undergoa ‘Local government performance inmanaging policing agreements and po-lice budget oversight’.
The auditors will be looking at the de-gree that local govts are exercising theirauthority and controlling their costs. If efficiencies are identified, that info can bepassed on to municipalities for future ref-erence. And with policing such a big partof municipal budgets, identifying poten-tial cost savings could be of great benefitto local governments. They’ll be lookingat operations with respect to effective-ness, efficiency and economy. Is the mu-nicipality being effective in managementof its policing agreement?
This, along with the other 2 planned
performance audit topics (operationalprocurement; and capital procurementrrojects & asset management), will be re-ported on by March 31, 2014, relating tocost containment.

The StagecoachI had a dream the other night. I was in the Old West riding in a stagecoach. Suddenly, a
man riding a horse pulled up to the left side of the stagecoach, and a riderless horse
pulled up on the right. The man leaned down, pulled open the door, and jumped off his
horse into the stagecoach. Then he opened the other door and jumped onto the other
horse. Just before he rode off, I yelled out, "What was all that about?" He replied, "Noth-
ing. It's just a stage I'm going through."
