the school District office sent out anautomated telephone message to parentsyesterday about an attempted abduction.A man in a blue van approached a stu-dent & offered to take her on a ride totim Hortons. the 12 year-old girl did notaccept, and is safe.
At 9am, Merritt rCMP responded tothe call from the student who reportedthe incident that took place while shewas walking on Voght st. the man didnot make threats or attempt to grab her.
Police & school District officials askparents to remind children not to acceptrides from strangers, and report any suchincidents to the rCMP. if anyone has anyinformation, they are asked to contactMerritt rCMP 378-4262 or Crimestop-pers 1-800-222-tiPs.
