Among them, our own Brian Barrett. Brian signed on initially as gen- eral manager and coach of the Merritt Centennials — in existence since 1974 & the longest-running BCHL team — in 1979-80, and he’s held various titles with the club ever since then. He is currently governor and the director of hockey op- erations. Also inducted along with Brian are Canucks equipment manager Pat O’Neill, former Canucks Brendan Morri- son and Murray Baron, BCHL commis- sioner John Grisdale, and the 1998-99 Vernon Vipers, considered one of the best teams in BCHL history. The actual induction event will take place this summer, at the BC Hockey Hall of Fame in Penticton. Merritt mayor is the spokesperson for hwy maint. petition Merrit mayor Neil Menard is the spokesperson for the group organizing the petition for “improved and proac- tive” winter highway maintenance within Contract Service Area #14 Nicola. The petition now has 1000 signatures and climbing — it is available for signing at businesses all around town. Organiz- ers are trying to educate the public about the highway maintenance contracts, and the obligations vis-a-vis our ability to move safely about the region. Anyone in- terested is urged to get out and sign the petition, as VSA Highway Maintenance Ltd. contract expires in 2019. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in his home on January 2, 2016. His loss will be hardest felt by his beloved wife of 50 years, Jane, and two children, daughter Christine, her hus- band Colin and their son Ryder, and son Rob, his wife Stephanie and their sons Nick, Trevor and Connor. He will also be greatly missed by his extended family and many members of the community. Peter was born in Toronto in 1942, but was raised by his parents Ruth and Jack MacLean in Calgary. Peter lived in various cities in BC and Alberta before settling down in Merritt in 1976. He spent the rest of his professional career as a partner in the chartered account- ing firm of Best, Reimer & Maclean, until he retired in 2007. Peter loved Merritt and was an active member of the community over the years, includ- ing as a member of the Kinsmen Club, acting on board of the Credit Union and the Merritt Golf Club. Until his passing, he was very healthy, active and enjoying his retire- ment. He was always busy with one of his many hobbies, which included gar- dening, biking, skiing, golfing and fish- ing. He also loved to travel and spend time with his many good friends and family, especially his grandkids. A service will be held for Peter to the Merritt Civic Centre on Thursday January 7, 2016 at 1:30 pm. Brian Barrett inductedinto BC Hockey HoF

Monday, the 2016 inductees into theBC Hockey Hall of Fame were an-nounced. Among them, our own BrianBarrett. Brian signed on initially as gen-eral manager and coach of the MerrittCentennials — in existence since 1974 &the longest-running BCHL team — in1979-80, and he’s held various titles withthe club ever since then. He is currentlygovernor and the director of hockey op-erations.

Also inducted along with Brian areCanucks equipment manager PatO’Neill, former Canucks Brendan Morri-son and Murray Baron, BCHL commis-sioner John Grisdale, and the 1998-99Vernon Vipers, considered one of the bestteams in BCHL history.

John Peter MacleanIt is with great sadness we an-

nounce the passing of Peter at the ageof 73. He passed away suddenly andunexpectedly in his home on January2, 2016.

His loss will be hardest felt by hisbeloved wife of 50 years, Jane, and twochildren, daughter Christine, her hus-band Colin and their son Ryder, and sonRob, his wife Stephanie and their sonsNick, Trevor and Connor. He will also begreatly missed by his extended familyand many members of the community.
