MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH
Dear Friends in Christ,
With all the rain and thunderstorms in June I mentioned to someone, “Are you ready to build an ark?” His response however was, “I don’t need to build an ark—we have a canoe in the front of the Messiah Church we can get into.”
Yes, the canoe is in the chancel as we focus each week on the theme: “Lessons From The Lake.” The good news is that no matter how many storms we go through that Jesus alone is able to lift us above the waves into his peace and love.
Here are some important happenings in the month of July. Please invite your friends, neigh-bors and relatives to share in the many exciting things happening at Messiah! All are wel-come!
National Youth Gathering
July 18-23 ten Messiah youth and adults will be attending the National ELCA Youth Gath-ering in New Orleans. They will be joining over 20,000 other youth from around the coun-try in listening to inspiring speakers, having times of worship and prayer, doing service pro-jects in the New Orleans area, and having some time for touring the city.
Those attending from Messiah are: Alicia Martinson, Jackie Oelke, Hailey Stark, Mikaylah Stark, Paige Stark, Jasmyn Sutton, Brett & Lori Oelke, Amy Swenson, and me (Pastor Na-than). Please remember us in your prayers as we travel by plane, as we function as a team for these days, and as we are inspired by messages and songs of God’s love.
Thanks to the Messiah congregation for your generous support of the youth fundraisers and dinners that have been held; for the $1,000 from the general fund budget; and for the sup-port from the Memorial & Bequest Committee! It is great to be part of a generous congre-gation like Messiah where youth mission and ministry are so important. Thanks again!
Vacation Bible School (VBS) For The Whole Community—July 23-26
VBS is again being offered for the whole community and area at our Messiah Church July 23-26. This is for children grades Preschool (4 & 5 years old) through 6th grade. Leading this week will again be a wonderful counselor team from Luther Crest Bible Camp. Cost $15. For more information please contact Becky in our church office.
Saturday Evening Services at Elk Lake—July 28 & August 25
Messiah’s Saturday evening service on June 30 at Elk Lake was the kick-off of three of the-se alternative worship opportunities. The next Saturday service will be on July 28 at 5:30 P.M. Regular service and message will still be offered at Messiah on that Sunday morning at 9:30 A.M. Please invite campers, neighbors and friends to share in this worship. Root beer floats will be served following the service by Messiah’s Outreach Committee.

“Lessons By The Lake” Message Series Continues
Beginning on July 15 Messiah’s “Lessons By The Lake” will focus on some Biblical links that can help each person as we are seeking to make life count, or are feeling discouraged, or for times when we can’t sleep. Dress comfortably, enjoy Messiah’s air-conditioning, and be ready to learn as Jesus teaches us his lessons by the lake.
Welcome New Members
It was exciting to see that Messiah’s New Member group grew larger to 18 people. We welcome each one of these people and the varieties of gifts and talents they bring to our congregation. Please make sure you welcome them to our community of faith and love.

Thanks to all who attended! How fun to see all the aprons, hats, gloves and items made from Flour and Feed sacks. What a wonderful way to celebrate 25 years as a WELCA Organi-zation. We are so grateful for the faithful women who have given of their time and leader-ship skills to keep the women’s group alive. Messiah Church is serving the Farmers Market Meal three times this summer. This will require many people to prepare and serve the meals. Whatever group you are involved with, men, women, youth, Bible Study, choir, be willing to commit some time to help for one of the meals. The dates are Thursday, July 5th (because of the 4th being on Wednes-day), Wednesdays August 15th and September 26th. WELCA will donate four quilts for the Quilt Auction on July 7th at Luther Crest Bible Camp. I am including the list of School Supplies in this writing (even though we won’t be prepar-ing school kits until October) as they can be purchased reasonably in July and August: Notebooks, 8 ½ x 11 Blunt scissors 30cm metric ruler (rulers with inches on one side and centimeters on the other side are acceptable) Pencil sharpener Unsharpened pencils with erasers Black or blue ball point pens Eraser, approx. 2 ½ inch long Box of crayons (16 or 24 count) Gods Work---Our Hands

ARE YOU CREATING SPACE FOR GOD? Creating space for God is the number one discipline of the soul. Are your summer months demanding? Do we all say, “If I only had more time”? Is that the real problem? Do we fill our days so full- we don’t have that quiet time with our Lord? Go someplace where you have that silence and solitude with our Lord. Take time alone with God that’s life-giving, life-sustaining, life-redeeming and life-transforming. Read HIS word as it is food to nourish and re-plenish our tired and weary souls. “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a
solitary place, where HE prayed” Mark 1:35 Each morning say to yourself, “Today is the Day You have made, I will Rejoice and Be Glad In It”. Psalm 121:1 and 2 “I lift my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” “Let love and faithfulness never leave you, bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3:3 Call your Stephen Leaders, Ardis or Sandy if your have a burden to share. Our Stephen Minis-ters will listen, share scripture and pray with you. Enjoy the warm days of summer and remain close to God. Ardis Stark—986-22768 Sandy Koehntop—986-2382

Summer Message Series: “Lessons By The Lake”
Jesus spent a lot of time in his ministry teaching and ministering to
people by lakes and large bodies of water. Worship at Messiah these
three months will help each one imagine that we are by that lake
learning from Jesus. Dress comfortably, enjoy Messiah’s air-
conditioning, and learn from God’s word of truth.
