Scorpion CX5—SFIC

-by William M. Lynk, CML, CPS, ICML, M.Ed. Interchangeable Core Specialist

The Scorpion CX5-SFIC contains a sidebar with 4 finger pins. The snake milling on the key aligns the fin-ger pins to allow the sidebar to retract, and then plug rotation. Because of this device, one of the throw pins in an IC mortise housing must be cut to accommodate the core, if retrofitting :(

2018 IS HERE—IT’S TIME TO GET ORGANIZED

Have you ever heard the phrase that knowledge is power? Well it is more powerful when it is organized. Think about it; just picture yourself trying to find information about opening a certain car. If you don’t know where to find the information or don’t have the experience to open that car you will not get the job and you will lose money. How many of you have lost money, jobs, peace of mind and sleep because you were not organized? I know I have. Let me give ask you some questions to help you to better un-derstand what I mean by being organized. How organized is your basement, garage or shop? How long does it take you to find the tools that you need for your next or future jobs? Ladies and gentleman let’s look at seven steps we can take to get organized. 1. Take a look at all the books and paperwork that you have and find out if it can be put on a DVD, CD or APP. Then you can access it on your phone or laptop. 2. Install shelves or closet organizers and put the things you have in sections. Example: Place all Yale cylinders in a bin. Place all LSDA latches in a bin and label them. 3. List all your customers lock codes on a spread sheet just in case they loose the key. 4. Install racks and bins in your service vehicle. 5. List as much information about your customers on your phone contacts to help you remember the building and rental property that they own. 6. Get as much Stuff off the floor and get it on the shelf so you can see and walk around. 7. Remember labeling items is the key. Someone else may have to look for an item that you need.

I really look forward to this time of Year because business slows down a little and it gives me a chance to get organized. If you are like me I am constantly on the go and I have stuff everywhere. This organizing thing is an on going process but I am discover-ing that when I am organized I am more Productive. Happy New Year Everybody!!!!! - Kelvin Heath, Certified ALOA ACE Instructor

To follow is another page from the now defunct Locksmithing Institute of New Jersey Home Study Lock-

smithing Course, started by the late Leonard Singer (Master Keying Expert). The program went out of busi-ness in the early 1980s. This lesson excerpt is circa 1973 . Some illustrious graduates who are LSA members

include: Ray Sinai, Theo Schultz, Dan Meggison, Nick Palise, Tom Lewis and William Lynk, as well as

the notable Billy B. Edwards, Casey Camper and inventor John Ulaszek.
