Motel Accommodations:Motels are available in LaCrosse, Great Bend and Hays.

Lot numbers:The animals are tagged with their catalog lot numbers.

Health:All cattle sell with health certificates, ready for immedi-ate shipping. Bulls have been vaccinated and PI tested, and have passed a breeding-soundness evaluation.

Delivery:Free in-state delivery of registered animals, or we will give a $50-per-lot refund on animals picked up sale day.

Guarantee:All bulls selling for $2,000 and above are guaranteed against breeding injury for the first breeding season, defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bull. An injured bull will be replaced by its breeder with another bull if available, or a credit in the amount paid, less salvage value of the injured bull, will be given toward another of the breeder’s bulls in next year’s sale. This breeding guarantee does not cover the death of a bull.

Welcome to the Mid-Kansas Angus Breeders 21st annual production sale.

We have a great offering of bulls to sell on March 16th, and we invite you to come early, look them over, and join us for lunch.

Our breeding programs all have the same goals: fertility, calving ease, above average growth, good carcass values, strong maternal traits, good disposition, and moderate cow size.

The bulls will be penned at the LaCrosse sale barn by 10:00 sale day as usual. We will be having a video auction again, so come early if you want to look at the bulls. If you are unable to attend the sale you can bid online at wwwdvauctions.com. It works best to go online and register two days or more before the sale if you plan to do this.

There will be updates to the catalog available on sale day. If you need any more information or want to see the bulls before the sale, feel welcome to stop by or call anytime.

PATHFINDER PROGRAM:A Search for Superior Cows

The Pathfinder Angus program was started in 1978 in an effort to identify superior cows in the breed based on their records of performance from Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR).

To become a Pathfinder (indicated by a # in front of her name in the pedigree -- shown in this catalog as a # behind her name in the pedigree), a cow must calve her first time near the herd’s average for first calving and yearly after that. She must wean at least three calves with an average weaning ratio of 105 or above.

To be a Pathfinder sire, a bull must have five or more Pathfinder daughters.

The Facts:• The Choice-Select spread is a demand indicator for high- quality beef. When you take that one step further and look at the additional premiums paid for higher quality boxed beef, like CAB, there is a clear demand calling for more cattle that can hit premium targets.

• Meat reporting authority Urner Barry quotes a CAB cutout in its weekly Yellow Sheet. It began tracking wholesale CAB prices more than a decade ago, when buyers asked for a dependable gauge more specific than the USDA Branded Programs quote.

• Boxed beef price is the estimated wholesale value of the entire carcass, combining subprimal values into one price.

• Even when the Choice-Select spread narrows, the CAB- Choice spread generally remains strong.

• From January 2012 through December 2014, the average CAB premium over Select was $19.00/cwt., with a high of more that twice that amount.
