Dear readers, the long march at Christmas has officially begun. Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year, but perhaps also the most challenging: dates on the calendar, markets, dinners with friends, gifts, lunches, then dinners, lunches, Christmas aperitifs. This is also the time of year to "be good", because in the end it is true that at Christmas we are more willing to put ourselves aside and make gestures of solidarity and goodness. A Chinese proverb says: "We can choose what we want to sow, but we are obliged to reap what we planted". This proverb reminds us that doing good to others, as well as being a noble gesture, will soon allow us to receive them in return (at least, this is the general rule). At Christmas, therefore, cultivating one's own well-being could start from here. This kind of well-being, however, also has a scientific basis: according to Jerome Kagan, a professor at Harvard University, a specialist in the so-called "psychology of goodness", human beings are genetically programmed to do good. When you do good, you activate the part of the brain that manages empathy, which is essential for providing wellness. Mirror neurons are activated. Hence our ability to "infect" our emotions with others. There are also meditation techniques based on compassion, which, according to neurologists, improve brain plasticity, which would allow us to relieve stress, invest in well-being and on that inner richness that can change the world. When we think of well being we think of an individual space, which tends to exclude others. Together with the wish to spend a peaceful and relaxed Christmas, without too much confusion and noise, made of authentic sensations, free of anxiety and stress, we express the wish to be able to carve out some time also to do good for others. Elementary gestures, like a simple "if you want to give you a hand" or a donation of clothes to a voluntary association, they will do good to others and feel better.

False food myths: Some Examples 4

milc news

Does chocolate really make pimples? How many times have we heard that we shouldn't eat too much chocolate because otherwise it would cause pimples? Unfortunately (or fortunately) this is also not a true belief. A study was carried out in Italy in 2015 on children aged 10 to 24 years to understand if there was a correlation between chocolate consumption and the development of acne; the result? Apparently chocolate is not one of the first foods that causes this small disease to emerge, nor the main cause of its evolution. Acne is in fact an inflammatory pathology that

depends on many factors, including nutrition, but it is rather the very refined foods with a high glycaemic index that are the most incriminated, such as sweets, sugary drinks, milk proteins etc. This does not mean that we can eat as much chocolate as we want, also because, in any case, it is a very caloric food (the dark one for 100 g brings about 515 kcal, while the milk one is about 545 kcal), but we don't even have to demonize it!

To lose weight just skip mealsThe idea that to lose weight is enough not to eat is widespread, with the conviction that our body burns the fat mass and makes us leaner and healthier accelerating the metabolism. In fact, the opposite occurs: by not introducing an adequate amount of nutrients anymore, our body goes into a state of energy saving by slowing down the metabolism to avoid consuming all the energy reserves quickly. Furthermore, as if the slowed-down metabolism were not enough, if we do not take food for many hours, the feeling of hunger will make us more inclined to stuff ourselves with food (maybe "garbage food") and with lacking self-control over the quantity. The habit of skipping meals is therefore not healthy at all, indeed! To lose weight it is much more advisable to take balanced meals that meet our needs by dividing them during the day (preferably three main meals and two snacks), in order to make our metabolism more active, and we more satisfied.

True or false: chocolate equal good mood?E a t i n g c h o c o l a t e i n c r e a s e s t h e l e v e l s o f s o m e neurotransmitters that induce feelings of pleasure and well-being: serotonin (the so-called "happiness hormone"); endorphin (effective in pain inhibition); phenylethylamine (a chemical that the brain produces when we fall in love); difenildantonine (an antidepressant substance); and anandamide (from ananda, in Sanskrit, "peace"), a substance comparable to tetrahydrocannabinol, one of the active ingredients of marijuana. However, scientists at the University of Cambridge, studying the human brain during the act of eating chocolate, have definitely proved that chocolate increases good mood. Attention! Not because of its particular chemical composition and the substances it contains, but simply... because <has a very good taste!>. This is how Brian Kristian Vacchini Giampaoli explains, Psychologist, psychotherapist counselor of the National Social Service and Psychologists Assistance Institute. The chocolate therefore contains a particular "balance" of substances, a unique blend of components capable of "activating" our centers of pleasure.

Let's discover anti-headachefoods

milc news

The headache is a rather common annoyance that affects almost one Italian in two, which can be defeated... even on the table! If you suffer from a headache but do not like the idea of using the usual medicines like paracetamol and aspirin, and if the disorder is not so serious as to require medical advice, then you can also try a diet based on the foods revealed in this article.

THE DATA:26 million Italians with headachesEstimates speak of 26 million people in Italy suffering from headaches (Source:"Living with migraine" research, carried out by Censis with the collaboration of Eli Lilly, Novartis and Teva). From other research it appears that migraine affects three times more frequently women: 15.8% compared to 5% of males. The chronic one (more than 14 days of migraine a month) is found especially among the elderly (42.2% of patients are between 55 and 65).

9milc news

Anti headache foodsIn the first place we can find the vegetables, fruits, vegetables, legumes and cereals are foods rich in vitamins and minerals useful for the well-being of the organism and to combat headaches. Potassium and magnesium are useful for calming cycle headaches. Let's discover anti-headache foods.

Ÿ centrifuged and smoothies: source of minerals and vitamins re hydrate the body; the lack of hydration sometimes causes headaches;

Ÿ potatoes: cooked with their peel by the oven, are very rich in potassium;

Ÿ almonds: they constitute a good supply of magnesium;Ÿ brown rice, legumes: source of carbohydrates and vitamin

B;Ÿ dehydrated apricots; besides being rich in vitamins and

minerals they contain: potassium, calcium, phosphorus and iron;

Ÿ watermelon and lettuce; rich in water, in addition to vitamins and minerals, they promote the elimination of fluids by keeping pressure under control, another cause of headaches;

Ÿ ginger: anti-inflammatory and natural pain reliever, ideal to be consumed in decoctions and herbal teas to relieve pain;

Ÿ fresh chili pepper: rich in capsaicin, another pain reliever and natural anti-inflammatory, it should be used however in moderation;

Foods to avoid if you suffer from headachesThere are foods, even among vegetables, that if you suffer from headaches it would be better to avoid them in order not to increase, or trigger the pain. Let's see what they are:

Ÿ onions;Ÿ olives,Ÿ sauerkraut;Ÿ dried fruits;Ÿ tomatoes;Ÿ bananas;Ÿ citrus fruit;Ÿ coffee;Ÿ tea;Ÿ alcohol;Ÿ chocolate;Ÿ glutamate;Ÿ milk and by-product;Ÿ red meat.

Some vegetables release histamine, which causes headaches. Beware also of alcohol, its excessive consumption is known to cause headaches, but even those who prefer to enjoy a good glass of wine during meals or at the end of the evening must pay attention to sulphites, preservatives that cause headaches.

ZOOM: cooking also countsThe type of cooking also has its importance. If wrong, in fact, it can help to increase the formation of toxic compounds and decrease the nutritional power of foods due to the destruction of some vitamins (those thermolabile) and/or proteins. YES: steam or oven-cooking. NO (to be used only partially): frying, cooking in an electric oven, grilling, boiling, braising, and cooking with fat.

ZOOM: triggering factorThis disorder very often causes a genetic predisposition, others are triggered by stress, fasting, abuse of certain foods and drinks, seasonal changes and inadequate night rest.

Ÿ spinach: lower the pressure, better if eaten raw in salads;Ÿ flax seeds: they contain Omega 3 which thanks to their

anti-inflammatory action help to fight headaches;Ÿ fresh fish: it contains essential fatty acids to keep

cholesterol and cardiovascular diseases under control, a healthy body is less prone to develop migraines.

The practice of Fat Bike is without doubt one of the sports practices that we will hear about in the coming years. We are talking about the "Fat Bike" a discipline linked to the use of particular bicycles with wheels... XXL. Yes, because Fat Bikes are nothing more than bicycles mounted along their own large wheel chassis, characterized by thick tires and strongly adherent to the ground. Using a Fat Bike allows you to walk on snow-covered trails without problems. Why not rush to buy a custom model right away? From now on, no one will be able to afford to pass you along the snow-covered slopes!

The Snow-scootBicycles represent the trend of the year, we noticed it too. And it can also be denoted by referring to the Snow-scoot, which is about to become one of the most entertaining sports disciplines of the winter season. Snow-scoot is nothing more than a bike with skis instead of wheels. You can already guess the use you can make of the tool in question. With the Snow-scoot, in fact, you'll have the chance to go down the mountain slopes. You will reach high speeds, but be careful not to hurt yourself: it is better to practice the discipline along equipped tracks.

Practicing SnowtubingSlipping on the snow is the dream of every child and... of every adult. Even when you grow up, you experience magical moments on the snow. In this regard, why not go immediately to an area equipped for Snowtubing? Born in America, the practice in question consists of the descent along snow-covered track aboard a large inflatable boat. The instrument is capable of touching even 50 km/h, but this depends on the type of track covered.

And if that's not enough... here are others!

You don't have enough? Then try the "skyrunning", a real ski race (but there are those who practice it without), the "skyfox", similar to a sled, a scooter, very similar to the "yesky" (a mono skis of a length between 90 and 150 centimeters, anchored to a wooden saddle with handles), or a "snowbike" (for those who want to go a little slower than the snowscoot...).

In any case, whether you prefer to hop aboard a Fat Bike, a Snow-scoot or choose to launch yourself at full speed on a slope with a dinghy, remember: sport must be practiced with the appropriate equipment! That said, stop reading, the mountain is waiting for you!

Generic benefits of winter sports- weight loss- attenuate hypertension- improve motor coordination- help keep cholesterol low- act on the mind, improving mood

THE ADVICE:sports in the mountains, be careful not to overdo itIn winter the cold causes the body to spend more energy and unnecessary calories to maintain the ideal body temperature. The best altitude to gradually adapt to the mountain and discover its benefits with the family is 1000-1600 meters: ideal for all those who are already accustomed to the mountain, looking for a breath of fresh energetic and anti-stress air. The mountain is health but, it is not recommended to climb above 2000 meters when you suffer from heart disease, respiratory failure and some blood diseases. This eight is also not recommended for pregnant women, children under 18 months and people with asthma.

Hula-Fit and hula hoop: fitness that comes from the past As can be deduced from the name of the practice, Hula-Fit is nothing but a sport related to the use of the hula hoop. Although it needs no introduction, it is useful to provide some information about the birth of the instrument in question. Existing since ancient Egypt, but marketed since the late 50's of the last century, the hula hoop is the famous circular-shaped instrument to be rotated around its own pelvis.

The irresistible link between the hula hoop and fitnessOver time, however, what was born as a simple toy has turned into something more. Witness the Hula-Fit, the "funny fitness" practice linked to the use of the hula hoop. The peculiarity of the disciplines related to funny fitness concerns the possibility of "training while having fun". In this case, nothing better than burning fat and lipids using a tool like the hula hoop. Because this is precisely the purpose of the Hula-Fit: to allow those who practice it to streamline the hips through the circular movements of the instrument.

In 15 minutes of exercise you can burn up to 100 calories.

Why focus on Hula-FitPracticing Hula-Fit is an extremely beneficial method for several reasons: Ÿ stimulates a wide range of muscle groups, from the

shoulders to the legs, the instrument will guarantee your body a complete movement.

Ÿ It slims the waist (the circling of the circle in fact stimulates the lymphatic circulation and helps to get rid of the fat disposed of on the hips).

Ÿ Tones the abdominal (in fact, the core muscles are stimulated and used) and it is also beneficial for the buttocks and the upper body area.

Ÿ Improves elasticity, even that of the skin!  (stimulating fibroblasts and hyaluronic acid, in fact, the skin will also benefit).

Ÿ Helps increase coordination.Ÿ 30 minutes of exercise are enough to start the fat burning

process.

A Hula-Fit session is divided into a first warm-up phase, a real exercise phase, a free-body exercise phase and the classic regeneration procedure. The top of the shape, of course, could be achieved by adopting a healthy and balanced diet at the same time. And if there were no Hula Fit courses in your city, or nearby, you can always organize a do-it-yourself course with friends and friends!

ZOOM: a little history of the Hula HoopThe name Hula Hoop is due to the term Hula (an Hawaiian dance of 1700). Officially born in 1958 in the USA, in the plastic version we all know. In ancient Egypt, men played there to acquire agility and dexterity, and in ancient Greece and Rome it was a very popular pastime. He went as far as Africa and North American indigenous cultures such as the Sioux and the Apaches.

CURIOSITYDid you know that Hoopnotica is a real community that has given life to travel hoop, a circle that is easy to handle and transportable to be able to exercise in any place?

Eye wellness: attention

to the "Dry Eye"

milc news

Although not considered a real disease, dry eyes is a rather annoying disorder that requires targeted interventions especially to prevent its appearance. In the third age a poor hydration is very frequent, which is reflected not only at the metabolic level but also on the well-being of the eyes. Probably caused by an atrophy of the lacrimal glands, dry eye syndrome affects about 25% of the Italian population, including in particular the elderly and women. If you didn't know it, it's time to do it.

Function of tearsIn physiological conditions, the production of tears depends on a hormonal control which, when it fails, causes the onset of dry eye.Tears perform some important functions, which are:Ÿ nourishing, as they guarantee an adequate supply of

elements necessary for ocular well-being; Ÿ lubricant, deriving from the aqueous component that

cleans the ocular surface; Ÿ antimicrobial, connectable to the cleansing of the eye that

prevents the invasion of pathogens. When tear production decreases, the eye, in addition to drying out, is more vulnerable to irritation and aggression from the external environment, especially of microorganisms.

Causes of dry eye in the elderlyCharacterized by the sensation of a foreign body or grains of sand in the eye, this disorder depends on a progressive atrophy of the lacrimal glands usually triggered by hormonal imbalances (menopause or andropause). Even the continuous use of contact lenses or anatomical modifications of the eyelids that tend to lose their turgescence are just as many causes of this syndrome. The continuous intake of drugs used for chronic diseases, such as antidepressants or anti hypertensives, can cause dryness of the eye.

Dry eye syndrome affects 25% of the Italian population

Prevention of dry eye syndromeThe fundamental prerequisite for preventing this disorder can be linked to proper hydration, which can be obtained either by drinking lots of water or by eating vegetables and fruit. It is also possible to intervene with the use of eye drops or lubricating gels, or moistening drops, such as "artificial tears", which contain hyaluronic acid. This compound is able to effectively retain water molecules at an ocular level, ensuring natural protection of eye tissues. The dry eye also depends also on the reduction of the tear film, or on an excessive evaporation of the tears. In both cases the surface of the eye is dehydrated and its cells tend to decrease their volume.A simple remedy to prevent this condition is to apply gauze tablets soaked in a solution of boric acid and water to the eyes, the use of which helps to hydrate the eyes.

According to the World Health Organization, dry eye syndrome is one of

the most underrated diseases

Dry eye disorder affects about 60% of women

THE HELPDo some gymnastic exercises. Keeping the eyes fixed in one place does not work the eyelash muscles, the eyelids, the lacrimal glands. This makes the feeling of dryness more intense. It takes some eye training. Trial, it's very easy: it fixes three objects placed at different distances for a few seconds, it blinks several times , winks like when light is understood, it rolls its eyes. These movements train the eye muscles and promote the flow of blood and oxygen to the tissues.

FOCUS: women most affected. Dry eye affects mainly menopausal or pregnant women; the percentage of women affected by this disorder increases with age: the dry eye disorder can even affect 60% of the female population. Why so? The reason for this phenomenon is to be found in the hormones: they are responsible for regulating the production of tears and with menopause and pregnancy these hormonal levels change and sometimes create imbalances.

Do you know the "Fucus Vesiculosus", ally of the third age?

milc news

Don't be afraid by reading the name, it's much better than it looks. Commonly known as brown algae, Fucus Vesciculosus is an extremely rich iodine vegetable, found mainly in the cold marine waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Very suitable for the elderly, but it is good for everyone.

17milc news

Properties of Fucus VesciculosusThanks to the high concentration of iodine, this alga is used as an effective natural remedy in cases of hypothyroidism, when the thyroid does not work perfectly and therefore the overall metabol ism is s lowed down. Usual ly people with hypothyroidism show a tendency to overweight, with the formation of fat deposits often complicated by cellulite. The slowing down of the body's metabolic functions is typical of the third age, and is often accompanied by disorders related to hypercholesterolemia. Another disorder quite common in the elderly is attributable to alterations in digestive function with a tendency to constipation.

Fucus Vesciculosus keeps us in shapeThe intake of Fucus Vesciculosus proves to be ideal not only as a support for the problems illustrated above, but also to speed up the metabolism, functioning as a true "fat burner" and therefore contributes to restoring normal weight. At the same time blood cholesterol absorption is reduced as its elimination is enhanced. Being particularly rich in mucilage, gelatinous molecules able to increase the mass of feces, this alga facilitates the evacuation process, functioning as an excellent natural laxative. Fucus also improves water exchange, eliminating fluid retention in the lower limbs, particularly evident in elderly people.

ATTENTION: contraindications of the FucusIt is contraindicated in cardiopathic patients, particularly if it is a carrier of tachycardia arrhythmias, in severe arterial hypertension, during pregnancy and during lactation. It should not be used in patients with thyroid or hyperthyroid or hypothyroid diseases who take Eutirox, because when the effects are added, Fucus can cause side effects such as tremors, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia and arterial hypertension. Do not use it for more than 6-8 weeks, and do not take it in the evening. But these are just tips and not a medical prescription, to hear your doctor if you are considering taking Fucus.

Other advantages deriving from the use of Fucus VesciculosusAccording to numerous scientific researches, this alga is able to inhibit the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase which, together with other biochemical mechanisms, limits the synthesis of LDL cholesterol, the harmful portion of this fat. These conclusions were made possible by analyzing some Mexican and Asian populations which, by making extensive use of Fucus, show minimal values of blood cholesterol. In addition to this function, the algae also controls glycaemia by supporting the activity of oral hypoglycemic agents. Furthermore, Fucus contributes to reducing gastroesophageal reflux, as it optimizes the production of mucopolysaccharides, molecules with a protective action on the mucosa of the stomach and esophagus. Thanks to the high content of polyphenols, it helps to improve intestinal and liver function, especially in case of poisoning of liver cells caused by an accumulation of endogenous toxins.

A little silence to recover well-being

Do you remember the game of silence? What they told us to practice our parents as children, perhaps more for them than for us? Perhaps they had already discovered how important a little silence was... Nowadays we are more and more victims of the frenetic rhythms that everyday life imposes on us, often running with many tasks to attend to and little time available. Migraines, high levels of anxiety and stress, physical illnesses

or situations that can also compromise the good results of their activities. Excessive or repeated exposure to noise can lead to this. Those who need a moment of tranquility, of absolute lack of noise, of closing the world behind them and allowing themselves a moment for themselves, now can also count on some scientific evidence.

Psychology

ZOOM: Studies on silenceLuciano Bernardi, doctor and musician, in 2006, studying the physiological effects of music, discovered that in the 2 minutes of silence between one noise and another, the brains of the subjects examined were much more relaxed. He also learned from the experiment that silence is intensified when it follows the noise.

The 7 Most Silent Places in the World:

1. Anechoic Chamber of Orfield Labs of Minneapolis,

United States

2. Hoh Valley, Washington

3. Grand Canyon, Arizona (USA)

4. Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii

5. Cape Cod, Massachusetts

6. Gobi Desert, Mongolia

7. Kronotsky Volcano Nature Reserve, Kamchatka

Peninsula, Russia

Chronic noise increases stress hormone levels, negatively affecting the immune endocrine system and the autonomic

nervous system.

The famous "silence retreat" is already included in the tour packages to visit

countries like Finland

Practicing silenceScientists agree that the practice of silence is a method for achieving psycho-physical well-being. The scholars who participated in the first international conference on the neurophysiology of silence (I.C.O.N.S.) held in Nocera Umbra and promoted by the Patrizio Paoletti Foundation with the collaboration of La Sapienza University of Rome and that of Haifa, in Israel, argue precisely that the Silence therapy exercise would produce several benefits.

Memory and concentrationFurthermore, from what emerged from a research carried out by Duke University (one of the most prestigious universities in the United States) to be silent for two hours a day would stimulate the cells of the brain region called the hippocampus, responsible for what concerns memory and learning. Therefore, remaining in silence the concentration would develop more, which in the long run would bring significant advantages for the preservation of attention and memory. According to another study, published in the journal Brain Structure and Function, 5 minutes of silence would be enough to generate new cells in the hippocampus.

Anxiety reductionDuring the aforementioned I.C.O.N.S. congress it was shown that meditation plays a therapeutic role in lowering the level of anxiety and emotional stress. Specifically, Adam W. Hanley, of the University of Utah (USA), has documented the experience made with patients waiting to undergo surgery, finding in these subjects a significant decrease in their worry and a relief of pain.

The European Environment Agency, examining the damage caused by noise to

European citizens, has shown that environmental ones are associated with 16,600 cases of premature deaths each

year.

Journey through anger:origin, perception,

So far we have investigated the origin of anger and probably we should now be able to know quite well the dynamics that cause each of us to get angry. Is getting angry normal? When does it become pathological?Anger can manifest itself in various mental disorders. In depression, for example, anger is an attempt to get out of a state of profound sadness. In psychosis, anger can be the result of delusions of persecution (the belief that someone wants to harm us), or hallucinations. In the narcissistic personality disorder, anger can manifest itself as a response to an unfulfilled desire, while in borderline personality disorder anger is often caused by a dysregulation of emotions. Similarly, outbursts of anger are common in those suffering from a post-traumatic stress disorder, characterized by severe psychological suffering resulting from a traumatic, catastrophic or violent event and presenting symptoms of re-experiencing the lived event (such as flashbacks, nightmares). For those who suffer from numbing (state of conscience similar to dizziness and confusion, avoidance of anything you remember in some way, or which can be traced back to the traumatic experience) and of psychophysiological hyperactivation (for example insomnia, irritability, anxiety, aggression and tension), the outbursts of anger can be normal. In fact, those who have been victims of abuse or trauma have not learned to functionally regulate their emotions. And so uncontrollable outbursts of anger (but also of sadness or anxiety) can make difficult the formation and maintenance of social relations or the progress of the scholastic or work career. Finally, anger manifests itself in the intermittent explosive disorder, which is characterized by the inability to control an aggressive impulsive behavior in response to what is subjectively experienced as a provocation.

Conclusion: how to manage anger?Calm is a virtue of the strong. Anger can in fact hinder dialogue, ruin relationships, destroy inner serenity and even damage health. Unfortunately, many people tend to justify their anger. As with any other emotion it is not always possible to avoid feeling angry. However, I think it useful to ask ourselves what really makes us angry. This exercise should be done once calm down. Returning to the episode that made us angry, it makes sense to ask ourselves what was going on at that time. For example, if I screamed at the traffic lights with the driver who had cut me off, I can ask myself: did I yell at him because I got scared because I feared he was coming at me? Why was I already late and afraid of getting a telling-off from my boss? Why would I miss the holiday train and leave the next day? Why did I feel a sense of injustice since I had been waiting for my turn in a row for hours? Or maybe just because I was exhausted after a hard day's work?Even recognizing the psychophysiological activation that precedes anger can serve to allow it to not explode in all its force. Here are some psychophysical manifestations that precede and accompany the emotion of anger: increased heart rate, irregular breathing, sweating or feeling hot, tremors, high tone of voice, becoming defensive, irritability, bad mood, being excessively critical of someone, feeling polemical. Anger management, concluding, goes through some simple basic rules of effective communication: speaking honestly, also because people cannot read our minds. Solve the problem before anger takes over. Attack the problem, not the person. And act, without reacting. And in extreme cases, before doing or saying something that one might regret, moving away from the situation can be an anger management strategy.

10 tips to manage anger:

1. Time-out: take time, breathe, let seconds pass. Calm is a virtue of the strong.

2. Be explicit: express your reasons with assertiveness and clarity.

3. Exercise: it helps.

4. Turn on the brain: before reacting, think about what is happening or about to happen.

5. Solutions: proposing solutions when you get angry often makes you be constructive and credible.

6. Me: start the sentences with the first person singular.

7. Turn the other cheek: let things slide away. Did they make you angry? It will also happen to you to make

someone angry...

8. Have fun: use humor to temper the atmosphere and relieve tension.

9. Meditate: it helps.

10. Get help: reading books, or getting help from a professional when anger exceeds certain levels is

never bad advice.

ZOOM: there is emotion and emotionDid you know that emotions are of two kinds? Primary or basic emotions are innate and lived by each of us: anger, fear, sadness, joy, surprise, contempt, disgust. Secondary emotions, on the other hand, are those that originate from the combination of primary emotions and develop with the growth of the individual and social interaction. That is: joy, envy, shame, anxiety, resignation, jealousy, hope, forgiveness, offense, nostalgia, remorse, disappointment.

Curiosity: history of KamutKamut is grown almost exclusively in the semi-arid plains of Montana and Alberta, in the United States, and of Saskatchewan in Canada. These are soils capable of guaranteeing the grain a high intake of mineral salts, primarily selenium, proteins and vitamins. The story of khorasan wheat, the Kamut brand, began in 1949, when Earl Dedman, an American aviator serving in Portugal, received some unusual-looking grains of wheat from a man who claimed to have taken them from a tomb in Egypt. Earl sent 36 grains of this grain to his father, Rube Dedman, a farmer near Fort Benton, Montana, United States. Within six years, Elder Dedman had grown more than 40 tons of grain from that small number of seeds, calling him "King Tut's Wheat".

Treat yourself with

Gemmotherapy

milc news

Gemmotherapy is a branch of herbal medicine that studies the characteristics and benefits of plant buds, or, better to say, of the younger parts of plants. But also roots, bark, buds, sap, blossom, seeds and catkins. Using an evocative, almost magical term, one could say that healing with gems is like treating oneself with "medicinal herbs".

GemmotherapyGemmotherapy was born around the 50's and is today a type of treatment considered as "alternative medicine". What is the principle of gemmotherapy? The vegetable principles of the shoots are exploited, macerated or diluted in a solution of alcohol and glycerol: the bud, a plant in embryo, would carry within it the potential of development of the plant itself, a bit as if it were both root and stem, both leaf, and flower and fruit. Furthermore, the gem contains high concentrations of active elements such as hormones, trace elements, vitamins, minerals.

What is the gemmoderivatoThe gemmoderivato is compound identified with the initials MG, “glycerinemacerate”, that is a mix of water (20%), alcohol at 90° (30%) and glycerin (50%), in which the vegetable sprouts are diluted and put to macerate.

Therapeutic virtuesHere is a list of the main buds and their properties:Ÿ Hawthorn: for the heart (it contains both the properties of

the fruit, which acts on the heart muscle, and of the flower, which acts on the heart rate).

Ÿ Linden: calming properties associated with the flower and purifying and diuretic properties of the sapwood, the soft and whitish part that is formed every year between the hard wood and the bark.

Ÿ Chestnut: for the lymphatic system, thanks to dehydro-digallic acid; they contain vitamins E and B and various minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium.  Magnesium, in particular, helps regenerate the nervous system and rebalance the mood. Suitable for those suffering from venous-lymphatic insufficiency, fragile capillaries and cellulite in the lower limbs. His astringent can make it ideal for bleeding and diarrhea. Also useful for

lower back pain, muscle and joint stiffening; its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties make it a natural remedy for coughs, bronchitis and fever.

Ÿ Birch: indicated as a supplement, promotes concentration and memory. But it can also be a valuable aid at the level of the kidneys, thanks to its draining action, capable of reducing edema and swelling. Excellent adjunct to joint rheumatism. Acting on the lymphatic system, it improves the body's defenses, and by helping the body to cleanse itself of toxins, through an analgesic, diuretic and anti-inflammatory action, it is also useful for lowering cholesterol and in the case of hyperuricemia.

Ÿ Blackcurrant: energy and vigor useful for combating allergies and fatigue. Anti-inflammatory and antihistamine action, it gives the body the necessary stimulus to react to inflammation and stress. Indicated in case of conjunctivitis and respiratory tract infections, it supports the immune system, also thanks to purifying and diuretic virtues, useful in case of high cholesterol, capillary fragility, dermatitis, prostatitis and couperose.

Ÿ Mistletoe: to regulate heart problems, it lowers cholesterol levels in the blood.

Ÿ Rosemary and almond: purify the body of its waste. Ÿ Fig: acts on the endocrine system, which would explain its

positive action on sleep disorders. Ÿ Thyme: sedative effect, improving the quality of sleep. Ÿ Pine: anti-inflammatory action, which relieves arthritic

problems. Ÿ Lives: helps strengthen physical health. Ÿ Spruce: for coughing Ÿ HorseChestnut: anti-cellulite treatments. Effective on so-

called orange-peel skin, it has an action aimed precisely at the lower part of the body.

What are the Bach flowersBach Flowers are 38 flower essences, discovered between 1928 and 1938 by the British doctor and writer Edward Bach. His theories, never fully confirmed scientifically, are based on some correlations detected by Bach between the personality of his patients and the healing path: note that for each of the seven bacterial strains identified in the laboratory correspond predominant character notes. Hence the conviction that by treating patients according to their emotions and character types, results would be obtained beyond all expectations.

Bach Flowers todayChemically, the Bach Flowers solutions were mixtures of brandy and water in 50:50 proportion. The floral material (also called mother tincture), so dear to Edward Bach, is also lost inside the water fraction. Today, solutions sold in stores are dilutions of mother tincture in water and other liquids different by brandy, very often pure alcohol. Bach Flowers are taken by mouth.

Having said that the advice is to have recourse to a qualified opinion (of a naturopath, herbalist, homeopath, aroma therapist), here are the 38 Bach flowers and the corresponding cured mental state:1. Agrimony - mental torture masked by a cheerful

expression 2. Aspen - fear of something unknown, devoid of object 3. Beech - intolerance 4. Centaury - inability to say no 5. Cerato - lack of confidence in your decisions 6. Cherry Plum - fear of going crazy, losing control 7. Chestnut Bud - difficulty in learning from your mistakes 8. Chicory - selfish and possessive love 9. Clematis - daydreams and plans for the future without

acting in the present 10. Crab Apple - the remedy that purifies; disgust of oneself

and one's body 11. Elm - when you are overwhelmed by over-responsibility 12. Gentian - discouragement after a failure 13. Gorse - loss of hope, despair 14. Heather - egocentricity and a tendency to always talk

about oneself 15. Holly - hate, envy and jealousy

16. Honeysuckle - nostalgia, living in the past 17. Hornbeam - tendency to postpone commitments,

tiredness at the thought of doing something 18. Impatiens - impatience 19. Larch - lack of self-confidence 20. Mimulus - concrete fears, with a precise object 21. Mustard - deep melancholy and sadness with no apparent

cause 22. Oak - the drudge that holds up beyond the limits of its own

strength 23. Olive - extreme tiredness after a physical or mental effort 24. Pine - guilt 25. Red Chestnut - excessive concern for the well-being of

loved ones 26. Rock Rose - terror and fear 27. Rock Water - self-denial, rigidity and self-repression 28. Scleranthus - inability to choose between two alternatives 29. Star of Bethlehem - traumas and states of shock 30. Sweet Chestnut - states of extreme anguish, when

everything has been attempted and the light is no longer visible

31. Vervain - excessive enthusiasm 32. Vine - inflexibility and tendency to dominate 33. Walnut - protection from the discomfort of change and

unwanted influences 34. Water Violet - discreet and dignified people 35. White Chestnut - unwanted thoughts, continuous mental

work and self-discussion 36. Wild Oat - uncertainty about one's vocation, about the

path to take in life 37. Wild Rose - indifference, resignation, apathy 38. Willow - self-pity and resentment

The remedy n. 39: Rescue RemedyThe 39th remedy of Bach is called Rescue Remedy, also known as Universal Remedy. It is actually a single composition that includes 5 flower essences: Clematis, Cherry Bloom, Impatiens, Rock Rose and Star of Bethlehem. It is used above all in an emergency, for physical and / or emotional shocks, accidents and big scares, but also before a difficult event to face, such as an exam or a speech in public. It is both an emergency remedy and a preventive remedy.

The myocardial infarction explained in 10 simple answersby Quirino Messina

Every year in Italy about 100,000 people are hit by a heart attack and another 400,000 are those that repeat it. If cardio and cerebrovascular diseases such as heart failure and stroke are also considered, an impressive figure is reached: 30% of all deaths in Italy start with heart problems. That's why it's worth learning more.

What does the word "heart attack" mean? In simple 1terms, myocardial infarction or heart attack occurs when a thrombus (blood clot) suddenly interrupts blood

flow inside a coronary artery (blood vessel that carries blood to a part of the heart muscle). The interruption of blood flow to the heart, with the prolongation of minutes and hours can damage or destroy (necrosis) a part of the heart muscle (myocardium).

What the "coronary" is? Do you know the carotids? 2The two arteries of the neck supplying oxygen and much more to the brain? In the heart they are called

coronary, because according to the imagination of the old anatomical they revolve around the heart, after leaving the aorta, and divide into as many branches as there are areas to oxygenate. They are elastic tubes, which widen during physical activity and shrink during sleep. When these arteries get old or fall ill we have arteriosclerosis, a disease that makes them rigid, shrinks them and often a fat plaque forms inside them. If the plaque breaks, the vessel becomes clogged and the heart attack begins.

Therefore, with each heart attack does plaque 3rupture follow? No, the heart attack can happen due to a progressive "encrustation" of the coronary artery.

The two mechanisms the main ones are acute infarction, more often due to plaque rupture, and chronic infarction, caused by the slow evolution of arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Recall that severe anemia or too low blood pressure in elderly or heart patients, can lead to a reduction in coronary blood and therefore oxygen, heart muscle nutrition.

Is the patient with plaque rupture more at risk 4than the one with a slow evolution closure? Exactly. Plaque rupture is almost always a sudden

event, causing an ischemia and major risk, and requires the cardiologist's intervention as soon as possible; Slow progression infarction is often preceded by disorders that allow the planning of exams and preventive care, but above all allow the heart to adapt in a certain sense to the event.

The World Health Organization has set a goal: to reduce cardiovascular risk by 25% by 2025.

I s i t t r u e t h a t p r o m p t t h e r a p y p r e v e n t s 6complications? Yes, the sooner the better. The cells of the heart affected by the infarction, not receiving blood

and, therefore, nourishment, manage to survive without "eating" for over 30-40 minutes, while those of the brain do not exceed eight to ten minutes. This explains why in ictus, which is a brain infarct, we need to act much faster. In myocardial infarction we must bring the patient into haemodynamics within 1-2 hours. Haemodynamics is a kind of laboratory of Cardiology, where experts quickly reach the affected coronary artery and release it from the cork or from the narrowing.

Should we just be afraid of heart attack? 8Unfortunately, although less frequent, aortic rupture, cerebral hemorrhage and ventricular fibrillation

(malignant arrhythmia) can also occur.

If the cardiologist intervenes early, can the 7damage, that is the heart attack itself, be completely erased? This is not the case, only rare

patients feel pain in proximity of an hospital or while they are hospitalized and can therefore be treated quickly. In acute coronary syndrome, which we can define a threat of infarction, the cardiologist intervenes very early with the balloon and the so-called "stent", and it is possible to have a rapid "recovery" with the return after a few days to work.

Why can't some people at risk reach the 9emergency room in time? Insufficient prophylaxis or intrinsic malignancy of the disease? Both one

and the other. The famous risk factors of coronary heart disease are many, but the most important are five: smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, sedentary life. Therefore, a correct lifestyle is essential to maintain one's health. The malignancy of coronary artery disease can be traced to a specific event: the arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) ventricular, which can lead to cardiac arrest and therefore to death, for this it is called malignant. The only device that can neutralize the malignant arrhythmia is the electric defibrillator, which today is found not only in hospitals and other health facilities, in all sports and commercial centers and in many shops.

What does ischemia mean? Ischemia is a Greek 5word, which means reduction of blood, it is in fact the assumption of infarction, without ischemia there is no

heart attack, there is also the possibility that we stop at the first one. Ischemia is often accompanied by pain and other disorders, which allow a fruitful collaboration between doctor and patient in agreeing assessments and therapy. The infarct is instead a dramatic event, which requires a prompt diagnosis and an often invasive therapy, characterized by severe pain in the chest, often radiated to the neck and to the left upper limb, which may also be accompanied by acute respiratory failure with a sense of distress.

Why does malignant arrhythmia occur in 0some yes and in others not? The answer is that mal ignant arrhythmia depends not only

on the severity and extent of the heart attack, but also on other causes, which we do not yet know, we trust in future scientific research. In the last thirty years coronary heart disease and its complications are diminishing thanks to drugs and invasive interventions, but also due to greater prevention, such as smoking cessation, regular physical activity, diet and the reduction of obesity.

The well-being of children in places of care:

humanization of spaces

The therapeutic pathways still see an imbalance towards the medical-scientific component of the treatment, and do not contemplate a holistic approach to healing. Drugs, diagnosis, equipment, scientific innovation and professionalism are fundamental. But that's not all. Putting the person at the center means moving from the logic of a patient object of care, to the logic of a patient active subject of their own healing. Children and pediatric patients are the first to suffer from unpleasant and receptive care environments. It is necessary to consider, especially for the children who are hospitalized, the following risk factors: detachment from parents and mother, removal from the family environment, sensory deprivation.

Humanization of care spacesThe psycho-physical well-being of those who are cared for thus also passes by the so-called "humanization of care spaces", which requires particular attention to the following areas:Ÿ attention to the fragility and to the needs of the personŸ privacy policyŸ non-discriminationŸ physical accessibilityŸ logistics and signageŸ departments on a human scaleŸ comfort of the structureŸ simplification of proceduresŸ access to information and transparencyŸ relationship to patient

A virtuous example: the Hospital of PaduaThe Hospital of Padua and in particular its Pediatric Department, are virtuous examples of Hospital that go in the direction of building a chain of care for the user that is more and more personal and human and child-friendly, where the care of relationships human being married with a precise planning of spaces and care comforts. In addition to the use of vanguard robots, a bit of a nurse, a bit of a baby sitter, among the most innovative projects we can point out the design of virtual rooms, in which the environments are transformed into expressive and interactive spaces for children that can draw and play directly interacting with the walls of the rooms. To forget the disease and remember to be only children.

Milc Foundation and Salus Pueri Foundation alongside the Pediatrics of PaduaThe Milc Foundation and the Salus Pueri Foundation are side by side with the Hospital of Padua and its Pediatric Department in the challenge to humanize the care areas for children. Until 31/12/2019 a fundraising campaign will be active, which will aim to finance: the decoration of spaces and environments; the purchase of games and play / educational material; the start of the financing of the new immersive-interactive room for children, which will come to light in the course of 2020. If this Christmas you want to give an extra smile to the children of the Pediatrics of Padua, you too make a liberal donation with a transfer, even minimal, made out to the Milc Foundation, to the Iban: IT94C0335901600100000151296, specifying in the reason: "Support Pediatric Department Padua".

The importance of a smileEven good humor counts, almost like a good drug. A study by the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, reported by the Huffington Post, revealed that laughter drastically reduces stress hormones: cortisol by 39%, epinephrine by 70% and dopamine by 38%. Similarly a survey by Loma Linda University, in California, reported by Nature, showed how, at the sight of a comic video, beta-endorphins, which alleviate depression, increase by 27%. Laughing, therefore, is good, not only in hospitals: the researchers at St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas, conducting a study of 2,500 employees, discovered that 81% declared themselves to be more productive if placed in a work context where good humor reigns.
