Chosen Idea – Multiple Exposure

• Slide One: I looked at numerous images that were related to some of the methods and effects that I had thought about in my mind map. I was really torn between the scanography effect and the multiple exposure effect as the scanography effect makes the subjects look more like paintings and they create really soft images and I think this would of worked well using flowers. Using bright coloured flowers against the background makes the images look intriguing and the subject stand out. I found the multiple exposure effect really different and I also really like the images with the black and white effect as it makes the images look really peaceful and I think this would be really easy to do and not time consuming at all and because I’m doing nature it fits in with this effect really well. I thought that the high speed photography would have been too difficult and because I chose the theme nature, it would have left me limited on what I could actually do and could of got repetitive. I also found some of the out of focus images really soft and interpret nature in a different way and it limits the audience to what they can actually see and I like this idea, but I found the scanography and the multiple exposure method the most interesting effect out of all the images I collected.

• Slide Two: I found quite a few inspiring images that I thought looked really interesting. I really liked how some of the landscape images were taken with a few filters on them to give them slightly different coloured effects over the top of them and this made the images a lot brighter and gave the images a warmer tone to them. I also found some images of flowers which were created using a splash effect and this made them look like painted flowers and I felt this was really different and very clever to do but it would have been too time consuming and difficult to actually achieve. I found with the multiple exposure effect I could actually use body parts as well as portraits and I liked the fact that the photos I collected used hands and did the effect that way. I think this would make an interesting series of images and I liked the fact that the trees were coming out the bottom of the hands so there wasn’t a sudden stop to the image and it flowed throughout.

• Slide Three: I found a collection of images that were all related to my idea and this gave me an indication to what I could take my images of. I liked the idea of taking images of trees and woodland and I always liked the idea of taking images of different flowers as they come in a variety of colours and sizes and they all have slightly different textures just like different leaves do and the bark on trees and this is what intrigued me. I didn’t think taking images of insects and wildlife would work as well with this topic because with the methods I was looking at it would have been very difficult to achieve with animals so this is why I find trees and flowers more interesting for the methods I have looked at.

• Slide Four: I finally decided out of scanography and the multiple exposure effect that the multiple exposure effect was a lot more interesting and more fun for me to do as I liked the more post-production and the technical side of the method. I liked the different effects that can be created with this method. For example, an image of a landscape can be placed inside an image of a portrait or it could be simply placed over the top of the image and this could create a different effect every time. I also liked how the images look in monochrome and I also liked the way the landscape images can be framed in body parts, such as hands as it is slightly different than putting them just in plain portraits and different shapes can be created using hands and fingers which will give the images a broad outline.
