MINDSET: Problem Solving Questions
• Asking the right questions makes it easier to find solutions or next best steps taken. • New solutions also bring new ideas. • Problems will be less intense, frequent and last less in duration.

Check out the topic on Accessing The Emotions You Want to help get you into a positive and resourceful state. Regardless of how good problem solving questions can be you need to think clearer and being upset, stressed and anxious won’t help. Check the many topics in Study Samurai that help you do this.
You have written down the problem you want to work on. Now write down the emotional state you need to be in to help you with this problem. Do you need to feel confident, relaxed, motivated or passionate? Now go back to a memory where you felt that emotion and anchor it so you feel it now. ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
The ANAM process includes these 4 success principles: 1. Act -‐ Take action. So many times we are paralysed with fear and don’t try through fear of
failure. Nothing changes unless you take some action. 2. Notice -‐ Notice what happens when you take action. Were the actions helpful? Are those
actions moving you toward the solution or goal you are seeking?
3. Adapt -‐ Adapt the actions you are taking if they are not working or keeping you stuck in the problem. Adapt and change those actions to move you in your desired direction.
4. Model -‐ Model people who have solved the problem you are in or have achieved what you are
seeking to do. What did they do? What actions but more importantly what attitudes and thinking did they bring to the challenge? This is what we mean by modelling – you model the thoughts and actions (if appropriate to you) of people who have achieved what you are seeking to achieve.

Do the ANAM process here. What action can you take to help move you in the direction you want to go? Who can you model? Who has achieved your goal or solved a similar problem? ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
1. What is great about this problem? 2. What is not perfect yet? 3. What am I willing to do to make it the way I want it? 4. What am I willing to no longer do in order to make it the way I want it? 5. How can I enjoy the process while I do what is necessary to make it the way I want it?
Use some or all of the questions above to help you with the problem you are working on.
