Sandstorms have turned the city into a no-man’s- land and you set off in search of Marlon Brando, (sorry, Captain Conrad), a platoon leader gone rogue after wading in to evacuate the city. DRagOn’S DOgmaFrom the team behind Resident Evil comes an epic open-world RPG set in a realm of fantasy, magic and valour. Customise your character, choose a vocation as a fighter, strider (nimble, dagger-swirling bow- wielder) or Mage (spell- casting magic master) and enter a world dominated by huge, evil dragons, goblins, griffins and mental lion-goat-snake things, hell-bent on tearing humanity to shreds. The fact said dragon rips your heart out within the first ten minutes acts as a further incentive as you undertake quests, joined by special ‘pawns’ you can summon to help in combat. pd

Back tO tHe FutuRe: tHe gameNostalgia alert! Back To The Future is, er, back – in game form! Set six months after the third BTTF film, you play an animated Marty McFly, time-travelling back in the DeLorean to save Doc from death and avoid wiping out the future. Based on fairly simplistic puzzle/conversation game-play, the narrative and characters are witty and engaging, plus there’s real true-to-film attention to detail, achieved in no small part through voice acting from Christopher Lloyd and the original movie cast (including cameos from Michael J Fox) and full collaboration with movie producer and writer Bob Gale. pd

max Payne 3When the guys behind GTA and LA Noire decide to venture into their debut linear third-person shooter, you can bet your Beretta it’s going to be good. Max Payne 3 takes the now washed-up ex- cop to the ganglands of São Paulo as a private bodyguard where things inevitably turn a special kind of fucked up. Cinematic to the hilt, with the franchise’s ‘bullet time’ slow-mo shooting in full effect alongside shoot dodging, an epic ‘final kill cam’ and Max’s addiction to damage- healing painkillers, this is a pill-popping shooter of awesome proportions.
