Introduction

Some numbers• 15% of the world's population (1 billion people) live with disabilities

[WHO]

• 20% of the world's poorest people have some kind of disability [World Bank]

• 80% of persons with disabilities live in developing countries [WHO]• 30% of street youths have some kind of disability [UNICEF]• 90% of children with disabilities in developing countries do not attend

school [UNESCO]

• In countries with life expectancies over 70 years, individuals spendon average about 8 years (11.5% of their life span) living withdisabilities

Schooling/Employment of People with Disabilities• 6 % of PwD have a Higher Education diploma vs 30% of general

population [CNESCO – 2016]

• 21% of PwD are unemployed (more than double the overall average)

Project Goals

• Contribute to help PwD to access to e-learning systems• Motivations:

- To build an inclusive society by fighting against this discrimination- To promote the recruitment of well-trained people

Focus • MOOC, serious games, virtual exercises…

- HCI- contents

MOOC

What are they?

MOOCProgression

• Fin 2011 : apparition à Stanford• 2015 : doublements des inscrits par rapport à 2011-2014• Début 2016 : 4000 MOOC, 35 M d’inscrits, 500 universités• Formation académique et professionnelle

MOOCIssues

• Very few PwD attend existing MOOC, why?

• They are not [fully] accessibles- sensori-motor: guidelines, W3C standards (WAI - WCAG)- cognitive: ?

• What about complexity, motivation, commitment?

Project

Approach• Considering International Classification of Functionning, Disability

and Health (ICF, WHO 2001) as our main reference framework

• Priority to adress cognitive disabilities- not in terms of pathologies (Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder,

Hyperactivity, etc.)- but of fonction disorders (emotions, memory, attention, etc.)

• To build inclusive systems (not for PwD)

• Codesign of systems

We need you !

Main steps• Study of disabilities and induced problems

- scientific littérature, discussions with PwD

• Imagine and design original solutions in existing systems- users and their helpers

• Implement software and contents- researchers and software developers

• Test with real users- users with disabilities

• In fine, propose a framework: guidelines, tools, examples

MOOC Digital accessibility

Current status• Results

- MOOC (5 weeks)- MOOC reader Aïana

• Great support from the MOOC Lab• FUN

- 2016 november, 3875 registered users- 2017 may

• Observation data (evaluation)- questionnaires (usability, suggestions)- logs (Aïana use)
