Essay - Mooncake Festival Celebration

The Mooncake Festival better known as the Mid-Autumn Festival.It is a harvest festival celebrated by Chinese held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar.This festival is also symbolic as family reunion. Celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival is strongly associated with the legend of Houyi and Chang'e, the Moon Goddess of Immortality and the legend of The Jade Rabbit .

On this festive day,my grandmother woke up early in the morning to prepare a traditional feast for our family’s reunion meal. She spent her time in the kitchen, busily preparing her signature white steamed chicken served with garlicky spicy chilli dip.The air was thick with a mouth-watering , sweet smell of food from the kitchen.

After a hearty meal,it was time for desserts.Our friends and relatives gave us some lovely homemade jelly mooncake and pamelos from which is an essential fruit on this festival .My elder sisters who is studying abroad also sent their regards and warm blessings.We even skyped and talked for hours.

At night,we were a bit disappointed as we cannot gaze upon the full moon,enjoying the scenic night view due to the haze condition around the area had gotten worse.In spite of that,our family still had a great time watching the astro television programme,.We were truly entertained by the star performers . We enjoyed eating the mooncakes and tea .

Though different places have different customs to celebrate this special day, people all have common wishes of reunion, happiness, safety, health and harvest. I hope that this traditional festival and cultural customs will be continue in the next generation.
