Experiment with various media and techniques while finding inspiration from children’s book illustrations and famous works of art. Each month will focus on a different art form.

September: Printmaking

Learn about different types of printmaking and have fun experimenting with various techniques! Create monoprints, relief prints and more.

October: SculptureUse various modeling tools to construct abstract and realistic sculptures. Get your hands dirty as you embark into the world of 3-D sculpture! We will use Sculpey, Model Magic and found objects in this class.

November: Painting & Drawing There are always exciting ways to paint and draw! We will paint with watercolor, acrylic and tempera, and use marker, pencil and ink to draw landscapes, animals and portraits!

December: Mixed MediaBuild sculptures out of found objects and experiment with different forms of media, including 3-D.

Interested in a serious structured homeschool class for your middle school or high school student? Oasis is MSAC’s inclusive art studio designed to accommodate students with varying needs. Our spacious art room comfortably accommodates students with different abilities and accessibility needs. OASis is open to any students age 6 and up. Instructors trained in art therapy lead each session. Beth Jesion, Art Therapy degree and Art Teaching License, and Jessica Jacobson, Art Therapy degree, have extensive classroom experience. The instructors use their knowledge and expertise to ensure an age and ability appropriate experience. Thanks to the Capital Times Kids Fund, as well as the Madison Arts Commission grant funding, we are currently able to offer this program at no cost to participants. However, donations are welcome. Private Music InstructionAges 5 and up

Music-making is one of life’s greatest and lasting pleasures, one that can be shared with friends, family and even a larger audience. Individuals of all ages and levels reap lifelong benefits from music training, practice, and performance.

Since 1997, MSAC has been offering music lessons to students from 5 to adult in piano, violin, viola, guitar, cello, bass, trumpet, and voice, and we try to accommodate requests for other instruments, too! Our music teachers are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and passion for music-making and look forward to helping you nurture your musical talent.

The first step towards becoming a MSAC music student is to take a half hour “Meet and Greet” introductory lesson. Please call 608.232.1510 to schedule a lesson.

Fiddle Class All Ages

Join us for a weekly fiddle “jam” led by violin teacher Karen Zethmayr. Classes will emphasize ear training and note reading. Ages 8 and upWe invite you to develop your artistic skills, talent, and creativity! Our highly skilled artist-teachers will train you in techniques and use of tools and materials, and will help advance your own unique style.

We offer customized instruction for beginners to advanced levels, children and adults, in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and collage.

Following a “Meet & Greet” introductory lesson, students are asked to register for a minimum of four lessons.

Are you looking for an opportunity to make music with other guitar students? The Monroe Street Arts Center is excited to announce this brand new class beginning in October. Students will play classical pieces, folk tunes and arrangements of popular songs together. Students must have an acoustic guitar (nylon strings are recommended), be learning how to read music, and be enrolled in private guitar lessons at or outside of MSAC. Instructor: Miles McConnell
