  1. 1. MarcinParadowskiThe impact on patient care of completing apostgraduate degree course.
  2. 2. Initially I would like to present how so far mypost graduate education has improved servicedelivery for patients.
  3. 3. Following my MSc in Endodontics all of myroot canal treatments are carried out usingmicroscope magnification.- great knowledge- ability to treatdifficult cases- improved quality ofclinical work- no referrals andtraveling for patients- teaching andtraining youngdentists
  4. 4. Microscope inEndodontics Localization of rootcanals Improved cleaning Improvedobturation Higher survivalrate
  5. 5. difficult anatomy
  6. 6. labial access to lowerincisors4 years review
  7. 7. pulp stones
  8. 8. advanced re-rctpost removal
  9. 9. Microscope enhanceddentistry endodontics prosthodontics oral surgery periodontics
  10. 10. Examinations- caries detection- perfect readingfrom perio probesgreat records forpatients and greathelp whendiscussingtreatment plan
  11. 11. Investigation andrepair of crackedteeth
  12. 12. Oral surgery-atraumaticextractions- minimallyinvasivesurgicalextraction-apical surgeryAll withimprovedhealing for thepatient.
  13. 13. Microscope in Fixed, RemovableProsthodontics and composites perfect crownpreparations excellent fit of fixedprosthesis beautifully finishedcomposite The above allow thepatient to maintainexcellent periodontalhealth.
  14. 14. Before and after
  15. 15. Perfectly finishedcompositerestorations= longlasting restorations.
  16. 16. These pictures are a sample of my workand show evidence of improved quality ofcare for my patientsI am a great supporter of evidence baseddentistry and I hope to increase myknowledge during my studying but also tobe involved in the creation of futureevidence to move dentistry forward.
  17. 17. MSc In restorativedentistry in rural area There are about 15% more elderly people living in rural areas.(census2011) patients have to travel long distance for specialist treatment people are living longer older patients retain their own teeth for longer older patients are more educated and expecting more of restorativework , prefer to keep their own teeth over dentures there is also quite a high rate of caries with older population, patients present with severe tooth abrasion. Also older patients are presenting with more complex medicalhistories , this can infuence treatment options and more treatmentmore complex and difficult. ref . for all above ( Int Dent J. 2007Dec;57(6):423-8.)
  18. 18. ResearchproposalI would like to research how work with magnificationcan improve the quality of restorations.I think it best would be to check micro-leakage ofrestorations done with and without magnification onextracted teeth.
  19. 19. The impact on patient care ofcompleting a postgraduatecourse. Increased knowledge and better patientcare improved confidence, attitudes andskills minimized number of referrals Better understanding of research andevidence based dentistry creation of new evidence opportunity to teach young dentistsand colleagues .
  20. 20. Therefore, I think that there is agreat need for highly educatedclinicians in restorative dentistry tobe able to treat patients withgreater care and a widerknowledge of evidence baseddentistry. Clinicians that will beable to train recently qualifieddentists , pass knowledge andinfluence others. By doing this theimpact of the MSc course isgreater and goes a lot wider, goingbeyond treating my own patients.
