D F ,

Peace and all Good!

Our Gospel for this Second Sunday in Ordinary Time challenges us, like John the Bap st, to give “tes mony”—to witness to Christ. Once he realized who Jesus really was, John the Bap st just couldn’t keep it to himself. He leaps up and shouts out: “Look there! The Lamb of God!” Some people take a while to learn who Jesus is. That doesn’t really ma er that much. What ma ers is that, once we know, we’ve got to tes fy! I would like to draw our a en on to some of events coming up in the near future. First of all, I urge all of us to a end the Parish Convoca on to take place on Sunday a ernoon, February 12th. The Culture and Diversity Commi ee and the Pastoral Council have been working very hard to put togeth-er an a ernoon program that will enrich our diverse parish community life. Two Franciscan Sisters will lead us in our reflec ons and decisions as we learn how to interact and build community more success-fully. I know that you will enjoy the a ernoon. Please take a few moments right a er Mass to sign up for the Convoca on so that we can prepare be er. Secondly, come along and celebrate “Mardi Gras Casino Night” on February 17th! This is going to be a fun evening and a chance to win some great prizes! Buy your ckets a er Mass. See the bulle n for fur-ther details. Next Sunday morning, a er the 8 a.m., we will host our monthly “Being Franciscan” presenta on. Our guest speakers are Fr. Finian McGinn, O.F.M. of the Mission community and Fr. Ray Tintle, O.F.M., vis-i ng from Junipero Serra Retreat Center in Malibu. See the bulle n for details. Don’t miss out! Love,

Ordinary Time is the general or unassigned liturgical season. It does not have to be ordinary and can be most useful for our spiritual growth. Here are useful good guides from you Parish Library you might want to read. The Lamb’s Supper -The Mass- Heaven on Earth, Sco Hahn-explores the rela onship between the Book of Rev-ela on and the early Chris ans’ understanding of the mysteries of the Mass. This book will help readers see the Mass with new eyes, pray the liturgy with renewed heart and enter into the Mass more fully, enthusias cal-ly, intelligently and powerfully than ever before. {264Hah} The Mystery of Christ -The Liturgy as Spiritual Experience ,Rev. Thomas Kea ng presents the contem-pla ve dimension of Chris an Worship He recovers the deeper sense of the liturgical year and shares a theologi-cal and mys cal perspec ve on the major feast of the annual cycle. {264Kea} The Mass -Rituals, Roots and Rel-evance in our Lives, Joan Carter McHugh offers a down to earth series of reflec ons anecdotes and tes mony for the healing power of the Mass. {264McH}

THE MINISTRY OF MUSIC IN OUR PARISH “BUILDING UP THE CHOIRS”

The renowned Benedic ne liturgical scholar, God-frey Diekmann, describes the Church as “the com-munity whom God has called, and who by prayer and worship answer him…Prayer, worship, is the chief task of the Church. So it is that by prayer that the Church becomes ever more what she is.” To enhance our liturgical life, we are calling more parishioners to give their me and talent to the Mu-sic Ministry. We are especially in need of good and qualified singers at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning Mass. The call to the Music Ministry falls to all of us. If you hear someone who sings well, you can say: “I no ce that you have a good voice and have some training in music; I think that you should consider being a member of our choir.” Or, if you like to sing, please consider joining the choir. It is my hope that more parishioners may volunteer to join the choir. Mission San Luis Rey has a long his-tory of liturgical prayer supported by beau ful mu-sic. So, come along, give your talent to the people of God! Have fun at the same me. For more infor-ma on, please contact Mr. Kerey Quaid at the parish office. (760-547-0709). Thank you, Fr. Vince

FR. VINCE CALLS FOR MORE SUNDAY MASS USHERS!

One of the most important liturgi-cal ministries is the role of the usher. The usher is the “official” host—someone whose presence, conversa-

on and ac ons speak a genuine desire that all who come to Mass or other liturgical events enjoy their me together. The crucial func on of the Usher’s Ministry is welcoming, hos ng, crea ng an atmosphere conducive to the act of worship. The ushers also take up the offer-ing and see to it that the Mass flows well and the mem-bers of the assembly are cared for. When we gather for Liturgy, “something important is going to happen.” This can be said in many ways, not the least of which is the presence of capable, poised and welcoming ushers. At present, we are in a dras c need of more men and women to volunteer to serve in this role, especially at the English Masses. It takes many volunteers to make a par-ish this size func on well. Right now we are at a skeleton crew of ushers! And so, if you like people and would like to find out more informa on about this ministry, please do not hesitate to call Fr. Vince (760-547-0723). Thank you!

Have you ever wondered why Jesus, who was without sin, was bap zed? The bap sm of Jesus symbolized and an ci-pated his death. A er Christ’s ascension into heaven, bap sm

was required for all those who became Chris ans. St. Paul made the connec on between bap sm and death for Chris ans when he maintained that we are buried with Christ in bap sm, so that we may rise with him to a new life. In what way will we be good stewards of that new life in the coming year?

THANK YOU LETTER AND TAX DOCUMENTS

8 | PARROQUIA MISION SAN LUIS REY, Oceanside, California - 15 de Enero de 2017

QUERIDOS AMIGOS,

¡Paz y Bien!

Amor,

UNA CELEBRACIÓN DE DIVERSIDAD ¡POR FAVOR, ÚNASE A NOSOTROS PARA NUESTRA

CONVOCACIÓN/CONVIVENCIA PARROQUIAL!

Juntos vamos a:
