December 18, 2016 - Fourth Sunday of Advent| 3

D F ,

Peace and all Good!

Happy Fourth Sunday in Advent! It is a rare occur-rence that there is a full week between the Fourth Sunday of Advent and the Solemnity of the Na vity of the Lord. We have more week to prepare not only our homes and church but most importantly our hearts! St. Joseph inspires us today to welcome the Savior. This good and just man Joseph does not hand over a child and his mother to a mob for stoning but instead obeys the voice of God and takes Mary to be his wife. Joseph is not losing a wife, he’s gaining a Savior! You and I have a part to play in the story of redemp on. All we have to do is get our agenda out of the way and let grace happen. Glory be to God for this gi !

Please post today’s bulle n with the schedule of Masses and special events beginning this week and throughout the Christmas Season. Our Christmas Mid-night Mass will be quite beau ful with the Chan ng of the Proclama on of the Birth of Christ and the Proces-sion with the Bambino to the crèche. You are invited to celebrate with the Hispanic community in the tradi-

onal Las Posadas—a commemora on of the journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem and our Filipino community’s celebra on of Simbang Gabi—a nine-day novena in honor of Mary and the spiritual prepara on for Christmas. See today’s bulle n for details.

This year on Christmas morning, we will be including our children in a special way at the 10:00 a.m. English Mass and at the Noon Spanish Mass. The friars will have a special homily for the children and they will par cipate in a lovely procession to the crèche. You are encouraged to bring your children to these Masses so that they can par cipate more fully in the Christ-mas celebra on.

Blessings on you as you conclude this me of Advent! Love,

S T E W A R D S H I P T H O U G H T

In today’s Gospel we hear of the coming of Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” We celebrate three Ad-vents: the birth of Christ, his Second Coming, and his presence in the world today. Our daily lives are a ended by God’s presence. Indeed, “God is with us.” The Good News of Christ’s Incarna on is that we are the sign, “sacrament,” of Christ’s presence in the world. People are supposed to see us, see how we love one another, see how we treat the stranger among us, give comfort to the poor and afflicted, share the Good News with joy. They see how good stewards are the light of Christ. And there can be no possible response except to say: “God is here!”

A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR YOUR PARISH

This year, Christmas falls on Sunday 12/25 and Christ-mas Eve on Saturday 12/24 — both days are normally part of our Sunday Collec on. To help keep our Parish financially healthy, we ask that you use both your Christ-mas envelope and Sunday envelope that week, add Christmas to your normal Online Giving, or plan on giving both a Christmas and Sunday loose check if that is how you give. In order to balance our parish budget every year we rely heavily on the generous gi s that come to us through the Christmas collec on. We also rely heavily on the weekly Offertory gi s that are made 52 weeks out of the year. Both your Christmas gi s to our parish and your weekly Offertory gi s help us manage our opera ng budget throughout the year, par cularly during the holiday sea-sons or summer months when our parishioners are out of town. For this reason, we ask you to please be as gen-erous as possible with your Christmas gi to the parish. If possible, use both your weekly envelope and your Christ-mas envelope this Christmas. We need your support. Thank you for your generosity both throughout the year and at Christmas!

AMAZON SMILE

The holidays are approaching and our parish family will be busy shopping for gi s, decora ons, and more. But by shopping at smile.amazon.com, your parish,

aka Pastor of Mission San Luis Rey Catholic Parish in Oceanside Calif, can be a part of your gi giving too! Go to our parish website, or use this link for your #StartWithaSmile at smile.amazon.com/ch/27-3979823 for your holiday gi s. Thank you in advance for your gi of stewardship to our parish.

WHAT IS EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP?

The name Emmanuel means, “God is with us.” This is a tle we use for Je-sus frequently during the Advent and Christmas sea-son, but its impact should

stay with us throughout the year. The Incarna on, God becoming human in the person of Jesus Christ, broke into our world in a profound manner that means that God is not only with us, God is us. The rela onship offered to you and me by God is now more in mate and meaningful because of the birth of Jesus. God is truly with us and our goal is to be truly present to him throughout our day. To be prayerful, another characteris c of an Everyday Steward, means more than reci ng prayers and se ng aside ten minutes a day. Our goal is to experience the presence of God throughout the day in the ordinary and extraordinary moments of living. When we begin to sense God’s presence at all

mes, and we realize that being with God does not mean one of us has to be talking all the me, then we can truly a est to our reality in a quiet voice at any me, “Emmanuel, God is with us.” Daily Advent Challenge: Take a day and set up remind-ers on your phone or other device to alert you hourly. At each hour, try to feel the presence of God. Spend a mi-nute or two in prayer if needed to calm your spirit enough to be open to his presence.

The Parish also has parking in the lot by St. Francis Hall that is o en not used and in the lot to the north of the tennis courts that is never used.
