General Characteristics

• Prepared in a modular fashion

• Easy to take out modules, insert modules

• Developed in collaboration with other UN agencies, other partners in development and data collection

• Harmonized with the DHS program

Criteria for inclusion in MICS3

• Relevant MDG indicators

• Relevant for MTSP priority areas

• Continuity with WSC indicators

• Interagency agreement on indicators

• Previously tested indicators

• Do not compromise data quality of other indicators

• MICS is a practical tool for collecting information on indicators

• Possible to collect through household surveys

• Household: A person, or a group of persons living and eating together

• Survey Unit: Household• Separate interviews of all women age 15-49

in the household, and of mothers/primary caretakers of all children under age 5

• However, not all modules are asked about and to the same person/unit
