Thank you for viewing our sale catalogue. We feel that we have asgood a set of 2 year old Limousin bulls as can be found in Canada.This has not happened by accident, we have concentrated on producingtop genetic, functional, low maintenance ranch cattle. These cattle basi-cally take care of themselves while raising calves with excellent per-formance potential.

In 2002 we purchased half of TMF Landmark 601L (a $63,000bull calf that sold at the International Limousin Conference). Land-mark was without question one of the best Limousin bulls ever used(through AI and natural service) in Canada, he left a real impact on thebreed. Practically every cow we own has Landmark influence in herpedigree. Since then we have continued to use the best genetics avail-able through natural breeding as well as A.I.ing.

Our sale structure is pretty much the same as last year. With Kurtand Becky organizing the Angus end of this bull sale and Provost Live-stock Exchange staff looking after their end of the sale, we are workingwith people who we very much respect and enjoy.

If you would like to view the bulls prior to the sale you are wel-come to stop and see them in the pens. Whatever breed of cows youare keeping our bulls will help add structure, performance, yield andoverall quality to your calves.

Our Program____________________________________

I have been in the commercial cattle business pretty much all ofmy life and ventured into the purebred business because of our fam-ily’s appreciation of top quality cattle. It was Diane, Quinn and Brianwho bought the first purebred cows and through the family the pure-bred herd evolved to where it is today. The continued help and supportfrom our kids and their spouses have enabled us to continue in the pro-gram. Our new granddaughter Julie adds not only the third generationbut an amazing amount of fun.

Other than during breeding season, our purebred herd is handled thesame as our commercial cows and mingles with the commercial cattle.The cattle graze pastures of up to 1600 acres and at times with very littlechecking.

I so often get questions on the calving ability of the cattle. Ourpurebred cow herd calves beginning mid April (along with the com-mercial cows) on 200 acres of prairie grass and are checked twicedaily. The first and second calvers (purebred and commercial) calvealso beginning mid April on 80 acres of prairie next to the yard, theyare checked 2 to 3 times daily with a follow up check if a calving is inprogress. We don’t get up during the night and calve 60 first calfheifers every spring with this management.

There are a number of reasons that we left other breeds for

Limousin and Calving Ease rates high in these reasons.

Delivery of Murphy Bulls_________________________

We can arrange delivery of bulls at no charge within 150 miles ofProvost. These bulls will be delivered directly from Provost LivestockExchange the week of the sale. We require bulls to be insured if weare transporting them. If you cannot accept delivery of bulls at thistime talk to us and we will try to make other arrangements.

Bull Development________________________________

Our bulls will arrive at the sale as virgin, approaching 2 years old,and ready to go home with you to breed cows.

At weaning time these bulls come out of a 1600 acre prairie pas-ture where they are part of a group of 300 plus calves. Our weaningweights are forwarded to the Canadian Limousin Association who do aproper 205 day adjustment. The weights we use in this catalogue arethe official adjusted 205 day weights - the same weights as are on thebulls registration papers.

They were born on prairie grass, wintered at the yard, summeredon pasture, exposed to barb wire and electric fences, handled with horsesand quads, and prepared for this sale on a whole oat/silage ration.

We market only 2 year old bulls and only at our sale.

Herd Health_____________________________________

We incorporate a complete vaccination program as recommendedby Border Veterinary Clinic of Provost, AB. We feel that we deal withan extremely informed and competent Veterinary Clinic and we totallytake their advice on our vaccination and herd health program.

All settle-ments must be made with the clerks of the sale before cattle will be re-leased unless prior arrangements have been made with the seller.Bulls are sold with a “responsible Breeder guarantee of satisfaction”.

Landmark is a bull that has definitely left his markin the breed. Used extensively across Canada throughAI and siring many sale toppers that have gone intoelite breeding programs throughout North America, hehelped address the needs of the breed when he cameonto the scene. He added volume, set his progeny alittle closer to the ground, added thickness and depthof body to his offspring. His sons are tremendous andhis daughters have phenomenal maternal traits. Hiscalves have always turned out superior to theirmothers. We are thrilled with his progeny.

Landmark walked our pasture for a number ofyears and we built a herd of cows around him - a herdwe are very proud of. We will continue to use him inour A.I. program.

Although Landmark has no sons in this sale, mostof the bulls are either grandsons or great grandsons andhis influence is definitely evident.

We have gone through one ofthe wettest summers for years and with strong cattleprices it’s an exciting time in the cattle industry.

We are very fortunate to put this sale on with greatfriends and cattlemen. The Murphy’s, Klatt’s, RandyMcgowan, and the folks at PLE are all a real pleasure towork with.

We spend a lot of time selecting our cattle andsearching for new and exciting genetics. We pride our-selves in strict selection and culling on udders and soundstructure in our herd. Rest assured these bulls are from fe-males that are sound. Bull calves are weaned in Septemberand started slowly onto a silage based TMR. They are fedto go out and breed not for finish. These bulls are fully guaranteed.

Our Program____________________________________

Our cattle run in the Battle River Valley so structure is key asthey have to walk up and down hills grazing and for water. We don’tpamper our cows; they run like our commercial herd, on grass as longas possible then bale grazing until calving. Our cows don’t get secondchances, they raise a quality calf and come in bred on time or they godown the road. Our aim is to have cattle that are functional and soundfor a very long time, easy doing cattle that convert feed into poundswhile catching a grade. We use the best sires we can through both A.I.and natural service and use embryo transfer to increase our rate of genetic advancement. We work with Lloydminster Animal Hospital toprovide a complete herd health program

Delivery of Pedersen Bulls_______________________

We will take the bulls home, feed, and deliver them free within150 miles. We will start delivery around May 1st and work with youto get them to your yard or pastures. If you are unable to receive yourbull at that time there will be a $2/day feed charge from that point on.We do ask that any bulls coming back to the ranch be insured.

We purchased this bull in 2008 from Rattrays, toppingthe Northern Select Sale. We are extremely happy with himand his calves. He was shown quite successfully – as a calfhe was Bull Calf Champion, winning the Angus division andgoing on to being Reserve Champion “King of the Ring” atStockade. As a yearling was Reserve Division Champion atOlds Fall Classic and Lloydminster Stockade. He has bredon the muscle expression and power that he exhibits. Wethink so highly of this bull that we have three full sisters inour herd as well as PED 148Z in our sale this year that isalso a full sibling.

His sire is none other than the great SAV Net Worth anddam, SCA Lady Anne 03K. This pair of parents has moremuscle, power, and overall dimension than almost any in thebreed.

His sons will raise steers that will top the market. Wehave been very happy with the way he calves as consistentlyhis bulls average 92 lbs and his heifers 83 lbs. We purchased Bando a few years back as a calf atHappyvale’s Dispersal. He was our high selling bull in oursale in 2011, selling as a four year old to Mitchell Farms.We were lucky enough to use him on a handful of cowsbefore he headed there, so this will be his last calf crop forus. This bull has been used to breed heifers every year andkicks them out at nice 75-85 pound birth weights.

His calves are built just like him, stout with a great footand tons of hip. We have daughters of his now in productionand they are beautiful, moderate framed cows with pictureperfect udders and milk like a dream weaning off calves thatare close to 70% their weight.

One of the last Bando calves we will have to offer, his motheris one of the thickest cows we own and we always look forward toher calves.

A bull that will give you moderate, thick calves.

Here is a heifer specialist. We turned the old Bando bull outwith some older cows last year to raise heifer bulls, and that is justwhat we got. This bull’s momma is coming on fourteen years oldand still has a perfect udder and feet. This calf should produce fe-males that will be around for a long time. Heifer bull.

A Wired son that puts it all together. These Wired calves sureare thick and hairy. He is out of a heifer we bought from Lyle andDoreen that is turning into a real nice cow. Goes back to the ShowOff 29R bull. He was not only a past champion at Lloyd Bull Sale,but also sired a great group of cows at the MJT dispersal.

Here is a real square made bull. He is out of a bit largerframed cow that has a perfect hoof under her. He also has a realstrong foot and tons of hair.

Here is a bull we showed at Stockade Roundup where hestood third in a real strong set of calves, which is quite the feat as aheifer bull. The Bando’s are all ‘sleep easy’ calvers and combinedwith Boyd New Day on the bottom side this bull should be a surebet. Better yet, his dam is an “Elite” dam with the Canadian AngusAssociation.

Here is a calf I am really high on with loads of maternalstrengths with 03K, 58S, and 6W heading up the cows he tracesback to. Combining that with the mass and muscle shape of NetWorth it all came together on this fella. He is powerful and longmade and should be easy to spot sale day!

These Wired calves really have hair. He is also out of a heiferthat came from Lyle and Doreen and I would say she has the nicestudder in the herd. The Bando females all have strong udder struc-ture combined with a ton of milk. Notice also he is just a middleof March calf.

Our herd stems from great broody females purchased

from Trefiaks and Eggens. Combined with the influence of

Total, Bando, Widespread and Show Off, we are building

some really great females.

This year we are excited to be bringing our first set of

bulls sired by DBRL Alaskan to the sale. We work back &

forth with Kurt & Becky and at weaning our bulls are sent to

Kurt & Becky’s where they stay until we deliver them. The

same delivery options as Pedersens apply to our bulls.

Pathfinder 90W - sire of Lot 1Z, 7Z& 17Z

Dark red with depth of body and thickness and sired byPathfinder. G1P is moderate framed and easy doing, has nevermissed a year and has a keeper in the pen. 1Z would be recom-mended to be used on larger framed heifers and cows. The sire’saverage birthweight on bull calves is 85 lbs with calving ease.

7Z is a moderate framed, smoothly made bull. The dam is atwin that has produced well for us and has produced herdsires thelast few years. These Pathfinder calves have adequate amounts ofhair and are all around complete, calving ease bulls. Would be recommended to be used on cows.

Zeus is a moderate framed out of a Knighthawk daughter. Thedam has produced replacements for us since her first calf. She hasa great udder and is a easy doing mother cow. 17Z is a middle ofApril calf and will work really well in the heifer pen and be able tokeep some females off of him. This calf has soundness and calvingease all through him. Recommended for heifers.
