History Colorado Center is dedicated to informing visitors about the unique history of Colorado State. The center is located in the heart of Denver’s Golden Triangle Museum District and Civic Center cultural complex. The facility was designed by Denver based Tryba Architects, and was one of the first buildings in the state designed to achieve LEED Gold certification. To address the need for acoustical treatment without compromising the project’s stringent sustainability standards, K-13 Black was utilized throughout the facility. K-13 is a spray-applied, acoustic and thermal finish, which is manufactured in Houston, TX from recycled, plant-based fibers. Unlike hard surfaces and materials, K-13 absorbs echo, reverberation and excessive noise, which would have otherwise been prevalent in a space of this type. In addition to thermal and acoustic performance, the application of K-13 in Black provides a bold backdrop for the exhibits, lighting, and suspended design details. No matter what your design requirements and budget constraints are, ICC’s products can be customized to meet your needs. Churches, warehouses, restaurants, gymnasiums, sports facilities, and schools are just a few of the many types of projects that benefit from K-13. Whether for new construction or renovation, International Cellulose has an acoustical and thermal solution to help you create the ideal interior space. The Museum of Natural Curiosity is the newest addition to the Thanksgiving Point complex. The Museum was designed by FFKR Architects and houses over 400 interactive, science and nature themed exhibits. Unlike traditional exhibit centers, which are divided into various halls and rooms, the Museum of Natural Curiosity is a completely open structure, which flows organically through distinctive, designated spaces. To address the need for acoustic and thermal control, K-13 in a custom color was utilized for the innovative barn shaped ceiling structure.

WHY DO MUSEUMS NEED TO CONSIDER

ACOUSTICS?

Museums present unique problems when considering acoustics. Depending on the volume of visitors and the multimedia exhibits, a noisy environment can be created that counteracts the purpose of the space.

Unlike hard surfaces and materials, which reflect sound, ICC’s line of high-performance, spray-applied acoustic/ thermal finishes, absorb echo, reverberation and excessive noise. The use of these products improves speech and music intelligibility while enhancing overall sound quality.

These products, which include: K-13, SonaSpray “fc”, SonaKrete and Ure-K, are Class 1 Class A fire-rated, and are available in both standard and custom colors. Made in the USA from recycled, plant-based fiber, these finishes can be utilized to contribute LEED credits to your next project.
