Music Throughout The Ages

Music Throughout The Ages

Page 2: Music project finished

Ancient Greek MusicMusic played a large part in the lives of the people of Greece. Music was played for marriages,

funerals, religious ceremonies and lots of other things.

There were lots of different instruments that were used for this type of music.A few of these instruments would be;

The lyreThe Pan pipes

And the kithara

I personally am not a big fan of this style of music. Its interesting and it’s a muchDifferent sound than what I’m used to, but its just not something that I will find myself listening

to.

Ancient Roman musicMusic also played a very large part in the Roman culture.

There was a special instrument called the ‘Aulos’ that was played at sacrifices to ward off any ill influences.

The ‘Aulos’ was made of wood, and is sort of like what we would call a flute.

I like the Roman music more than I liked the Greek music. I think its more exciting. There's lots of different sounds, and the instruments sound very interesting. I still don’t think that I would want

to listen to Roman music in my free time, though. Here is my favorite playlist of ancient Roman music.

Opera

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=458AWkx_Jxw

Opera is considered an art form in which singers and musicians perform a dramatic work combining text and musical score, usually in a theatrical setting, like the Sydney Opera house.

I actually really dislike opera. I find it irritating and it usually gives me a headache.I would never personally listen to opera without being forced to.

The famous proverb “the opera ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings” in reference to buxom Brunhilde’s 10-minute aria at the end of Wagner’s

Ring cycle operas is usually attributed to pro basketball coach Dick Motta, who in turn attributes it to San Antonio sportswriter/broadcaster Dan

Cook, who says he overheard a friend say it.

Classical musicGiven the extremely broad variety of forms, styles, genres, and historical periods generally

perceived as being described by the term "classical music," it is difficult to list characteristics that can be attributed to all works of that type.

The actual Classical Period in music was from about 1700 - 1825. Sources vary, because the classical period overlapped with the Baroque Period.

A list of some classical musicians would include;Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky.

I actually really like classical music. I like to listen to it when I’m doing schoolwork. I find that it helps me to focus. It doesn’t distract me from my work, but it also isn’t boring.

Pop Punk musicWhen I see the words Pop Punk all I really think about is 2006 Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy

with eyeliner on.I love pop punk. Its one of my very favorite genres of music. For some reason, when you’re 10

years old and you’re listening to blink-182 , you just feel like you’re really cool.Pop Punk is sort of a mix of rock and roll and pop music. Its edgy. Its fun. Its angry teenager

music.Some of my most favorite pop punk bands include;

Green Day, Blink 182, Mayday Parade, All Time Low, Panic! At Disco, and Fall Out Boy.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H10e5YT6QQc

This is Fall Out Boys newest album. Its one of my most favorite albums of all time.

Mayday ParadeMayday parade is actually my favorite pop punk band, so I felt that they needed a slide

dedicated just to themselves.I’ve seen them live in concert 3 times, and met them all once. I also met Brooks Betts (rhythm

guitarist) outside the venue once.

Jazz musicJazz started in the early 20th century, and is still being made to this day.

Its still being made to this day because jazz is awesome. I love jazz. I love big band jazz especially. I love the saxophone.

Jazz music itself originated from African American communities in the South United States around the start of the 20th century. It was a kind of fusion between the single-melody African tribal songs with the European musical concept of harmony. After slavery was abolished, many

African Americans were able to find low-paying careers in the entertainment industry, and many took up musical instruments, especially the violin. Entertainers like Scott Joplin produced a genre

called ragtime around the 1890s which was the precursor to jazz.

Musical Theater musicI like musical theater. I don’t love it, but I like it. Sometimes the songs can get a little annoying

and repetitive. Believe it or not, I actually took a musical theater class for about 4 years.

Musical theater is a mix of dancing, singing, and acting. Musical theater can also be referred to as simply, a musical. Musical theater emerged in the 19th century. My favorite musical is a

musical called Bye Bye Birdie.

Motown musicWikipedia says that Motown was “crafted with an ear towards pop appeal, the Motown Sound typically used tambourines to accent the back beat, prominent and often melodic electric bass-guitar lines, distinctive melodic and chord structures, and a call-and-response singing style that

originated in gospel music.”I love Motown. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with listening to Motown. It has such a nice

sound. It is something very different than most genres of music. Some of my favorite Motown groups are; The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and The Supremes.

Country MusicCountry music. I really dislike country music. To me the lyrics always come across as “oh poor

me, I was just sittin’ on my tractor and drinkin’ a beer and then my girl broke up with me.” But of course, that’s just my opinion.

Country music is often made with just an acoustic guitar and some vocals. The banjo is also a popular instrument in country music.

Country music started in about 1920, but it started to gain popularity in 1940.

Pop musicI don’t mind pop music. It’s not my favorite, but I don’t dislike it either. I personally think that

about 90 percent of todays pop songs sound almost exactly the same. At the same time, if the song Happy by Pharrell Williams comes on when I’m in the car with my friends, you know I’m

definitely singing my heart out.Pop music is usually very catchy, and very upbeat.

The term ‘Pop Music’ is actually short for popular music, hence why there are so many pop radio stations, and pop artists. Almost everyone likes pop music.

Here's my favorite pop playlist

Rock and RollRock and Roll is essentially the God of all music.

Rock and Roll music is usually composed of two electric guitars, an electric base, and a drum kit.

Rock music started in the late the very early 1950’s

Here are just a few of the best rock and roll bands; The Rolling Stones

The DoorsDavid BowieThe Beatles

The WhoAC/DC

Van HalenQueen Nirvana

Rock and Roll has been in my music library since the time I knew what music was. It is my favorite genre of music.
