Project ChallengeServing the upstate of South Carolina, neighboring Georgia and North Carolina communities for over 30 years, Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet knows what it takes to earn business and trust. But in an increasingly competitive market, it is more critical than ever for auto dealerships to reduce operating costs to increase earnings.

With the shift to LED technology creating a flood of new lighting products on the market, it can be overwhelming to narrow down and select the right lighting fixtures.

Hubbell Lightings SolutionsWorking with Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet, the lighting designers at Net Zero USA chose three different Hubbell Lighting outdoor LED products to make the cars and trucks paint truly pop. Over one hundred 1000 watt metal halide fixtures at the top of existing poles were replaced with 332 watt Spaulding Lighting Cimarron LED luminaires.

Forty-four 250 watt small metal halide floodlights located halfway down some of the front line inventory poles were swapped out with forty-four 70 watt Hubbell Outdoor Lighting Miniliter LED floodlights. And a dozen 1000 watt metal halide floodlights on the exterior of the building were updated with fourteen 107 watt Hubbell Outdoor Lighting Magnuliter LED floodlights.

Inside the showroom and office space, the dealership chose products from Hubbell Lightings Columbia Lighting and Prescolite brands to provide an inviting atmosphere for customers and showcase vehicles in the showroom.

Energy Savings: 62.6%Prior to the retrofit, the dealerships outdoor lightingconsumed 626,546 kWh annually. After the LED retrofit,the electricity consumption fell to 234,183 kWhor a62.6% decline. When calculating that drop with a utilityrate of $0.10 per kWh, the dealership reduced itselectricity bills from $62,655 to an estimated $23,183 an eye-opening $39,472 in just one year.

Project BenefitsLighting is an important part of the automotive shoppingexperience, but also one of its greatest expenses, accounting for more than 45% of a dealerships energy costs. The Alpha Luminaire is a high performance LED energy and maintenance lighting solution, designed with optical versatility.

The housing, electrical compartment and fitter are made from die cast aluminum that is pre-treated and powder-coated to meet the most rugged industry standards.

The adjustable knuckle is designed to slip fit 2" to 3" O.D. tenon.

The fixture electrical compartment shall contain all LED driver components and shall be provided with an internal terminal block for AC power connections.

The Alpha luminaire provides the best combination of vertical and horizontal illumination while reducing light behind the poles.

Luminaires are equipped with an LED driver that accepts 100V through 277V, 50 Hz to 60 Hz (UNV), or a driver that accepts 347V or 480V input.

The adjustable knuckle is designed to slip fit 2" to 3" O.D. tenon.

The fixture electrical compartment shall contain all LED driver components and shall be provided with an internal terminal block for AC power connections.

The Alpha luminaire provides the best combination of vertical and horizontal illumination while reducing light behind the poles.

All cast aluminum components shall be low copper alloy A356. All extruded aluminum components shall be alloy 6061-T6, 6063-T5 or equal. All spun components shall be alloy 1070, 3002 or 1100.

The heavy spun aluminum dome shall be topped with a decorative cast aluminum finial (except Brighton). The dome shall be mechanically attached to the lens. The acrylic lens material shall be UV stabilized and impact resistant.
