I have a meeng with our Director of Schools next week with the Regional Asset Management team who coordinate all building works and refurbishments for the Department. Our Director has been extremely supporve in advocang for our school and this meeng will be a chance for us to have input into the future planned works and also to see for the first me the scope of future improvements. I would like to thank the staff and community for being paent as this process evolves. Unfortunately, any works, no maer how well planned, can impact our day to day operaons and make teaching even more of a challenge. Most major work will be undertaken during school holiday periods to ensure minimal disrupon to the school and to ensure student safety. Because of this limited window in which to complete works the process spreads out over a longer period. I am excited to see the plans and once I have them I will share these with the community. Also, once we see the plans I can then look at where to further invest to improve the playground and shade provisions for both the Entrance North and Narara. As a reminder to parents can we please request that all student medicaon comes to school in Webster packs. This ensures that staff are sure that any medicaon is clearly idenfied with the student’s name and correct dose and me. This is essenal to ensure the appropriate and safe administraon of medicaon, especially if regular staff are away and casual staff are on a class. We are sll eagerly awaing the delivery of our new bus for The Entrance North Campus and will let you know when it arrives. In other news, I have taken up my role as Naonal President of ASEPA, the Australian Special Educaon Principals Associaon. This is funded by the Federal Department of Educaon which means the school can replace me when required. I have previously been the Vice President for the last two years so I understand the work and roles but my commitment to the school comes first. This week I was able to have meengs with Tanya Plibersek MP the Deputy Opposion Leader and Educaon Spokesperson as well as the Federal Minister for Educaon Dan Tehan MP, to get the issues and challenges of our special schools on the naonal agenda before the next Federal Elecon. Our special schools across Australia have shared challenges and we deserve the same, if not beer funding and resources as our primary and high school colleagues and students. Our students and school is my passion and has been throughout my career. I want our students to be known, valued and cared for. As always, please let me know if you have any concerns or suggesons as I am always available to meet or talk with you. Regards Ma

Dear Glenvale community,

As always there is a lot happening. Most would be aware that there is ongoing consultation and planning happening in regard to our Entrance North Campus. We still have a lot to do around ensuring that we provide the best possible learning and play environment for our students.

I have a meeting with our Director of Schools next week with the Regional Asset Management team who coordinate all building works and refurbishments for the Department. Our Director has been extremely supportive in advocating for our school and this meeting will be a chance for us to have input into the future planned works and also to see for the first time the scope of future improvements.

I would like to thank the staff and community for being patient as this process evolves. Unfortunately, any works, no matter how well planned, can impact our day to day operations and make teaching even more of a challenge. Most major work will be undertaken during school holiday periods to ensure minimal disruption to the school and to ensure student safety. Because of this limited window in which to complete works the process spreads out over a longer period. I am excited to see the plans and once I have them I will share these with the community. Also, once we see the plans I can then look at where to further invest to improve the playground and shade provisions for both the Entrance North and Narara.

As a reminder to parents can we please

request that all student medication comes to school in Webster packs. This ensures that staff are sure that any medication is clearly identified with the student’s name and correct dose and time. This is essential to ensure the appropriate and safe administration of medication, especially if regular staff are away and casual staff are on a class.

We are still eagerly awaiting the delivery of our new bus for The Entrance North Campus and will let you know when it arrives.

In other news, I have taken up my role as National President of ASEPA, the Australian Special Education Principals Association. This is funded by the Federal Department of Education which means the school can replace me when required. I have previously been the Vice President for the last two years so I understand the work and roles but my commitment to the school comes first.

This week I was able to have meetings with Tanya Plibersek MP the Deputy Opposition Leader and Education Spokesperson as well as the Federal Minister for Education Dan Tehan MP, to get the issues and challenges of our special schools on the national agenda before the next Federal Election. Our special schools across Australia have shared challenges and we deserve the same, if not better funding and resources as our primary and high school colleagues and students. Our students and school is my passion and has been throughout my career. I want our students to be known, valued and cared for.

As always, please let me know if you have any concerns or suggestions as I am always available to meet or talk with you.

Regards

Matt

Learning at our School

Special Religious Education

Each year, a fortnightly religious instruction program is provided for students at Glenvale School, Narara.

A non-denominational program is presented by approved visiting church personnel. They are presented

as a Junior and Senior program on alternate weeks. Students who are not attending are given supervised

alternative meaningful activities based on their individual programs. The current approved providers are

from the Baptist Union of NSW and the curriculum used is Godspace and Connect.

For more information, please visit the Religion and ethics website

Graduation News

A huge thank you!

Our fundraising last year led to a wonderful night at Gosford RSL for our Year 12 students

as you can see from these pictures. A great night was had by all! However, it wouldn’t

have been so successful without the support we received from families, staff and

transport staff. We would like to express our thanks to all those who supported our Hot

Cross Bun, Lamington and Pie Drives. Also a huge thank you to Jack Burland’s mother,

Kathryn Jones, for the beautiful Graduation cake, cupcakes and cookies -they helped to

make the night truly special. We are looking forward to your continued support of our

fundraising this year to again make this night special for our departing students! Thank

you!

Voluntary School Contributions

Every public school asks for a small contribution towards the many costs

associated with education programs.

At Glenvale, we ask that parents contribute $35 per child each year. This has not

changed for many years and is very small in comparison to other schools, even

though our costs can be much higher.

Please consider sending in the $35 as soon as you are able to do so; a payment

can be made via our webpage www.glenvale-s.schools.nsw.edu.au. Go to the

‘Make a Payment’ tab and follow the links.

Many thanks to those who have already done so.

All donations to the school over $2 are tax deductible as Glenvale is registered

with the Australian Tax Office as a deductible gift.

Term 1 Please return permission notes for students signed ASAP
