ATTENDANCE Attendance at school is an important aspect of enduring a student’s ongoing success and growth as part of their

education. The Department of Education encourages students to attend school each and every day. It does recognise

that there are occasional times where a student may not be able to attend school, due to illness or other medical reasons.

In some cases parents may apply for extended leave if their child will be absent for more than a week, for example an

overseas family holiday.

I remain parents that school starts at 8.55am and that all students are expected to attend Roll Call at the start of the day.

This is important as students receive notification of the important changes to the day and of upcoming events.

Students who arrive late to school will be required to have an acceptable explanation for their lateness. No explanations

or unacceptable reason such as sleeping in will be marked as unjustified absences.

Students who need to leave school during the day must provide a note to the Deputy Principal, Mr Melville before

school, with an acceptable explanation for leaving during school, and sign out at the front office before leaving.

HEAD LICE As our school year commences, we have been made aware of the few cases of head lice. Here are a few helpful tip:

Regularly check your children’s hair

Teach older children to check their own hair

Tie back and braid long hear

Keep a fine tooth head lice comb in the bathroom and encourage all family members to use it when they

wash their hair.

Daily combing of white hair conditioner using a fine tooth comb is effective in getting rid of head lice

and eggs.

HOMEWORK CENTRE

The school will again run a homework centre in the afternoons of a Tuesday and a Thursday from 3.30 – 4.30pm.

Students can attend and will be supplied with some afternoon tea and will be able to access the library facilities to help

them with their homework and assignments.

Teachers who help out on these days are volunteers and give their time freely to support our students.

UNIFORM SHOP HOURS Stitches will be open at Narooma High School every Tuesday from 10.45am to 1.45.

NSW SCHOOL VACCINATION PROGRAM Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health

and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program. In 2016 the following vaccines will be offered to Year 7 students*:

dTpa vaccine (Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis (whooping cough)) as a single dose

varicella vaccine (chickenpox) as a single dose; and

human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in a 3-dose schedule at 0, 2 and 6 months (students who commence HPV

vaccination in Year 7 but do not complete the course may be offered catch-up doses at school in Year 8)

* The Parent Information Kits contain a consent form, information sheet and privacy statement that details how

personal information will be collected, stored and utilised.

Parent Information Kits will be sent home to parents/guardians. To consent to the vaccination of their child, parents/guardians are advised to:

read all the information provided

complete the consent form, including signing their name next to the vaccine/s they would like their child to receive

return the completed consent form to their child’s school

ensure that their child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccination clinic.

Parents/guardians who wish to withdraw their consent for any reason may do so by writing to the school Principal or

phoning the school. The Procedure for Withdrawal of Consent is available on the NSW Health website at

www.health.nsw.gov.au/immunisation.

To improve vaccination completion, students will be opportunistically offered any missed doses throughout the year

where possible.

A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic. Parents/guardians should ensure that

this record is kept for future reference and should not assume that their child has been vaccinated if they do not receive

this Record of Vaccination.

Information packages and consent forms have been handed out to all year 7 students today (3/2/16) and need to

be returned to the front office by Thursday February 11th for collection by community health. Vaccinations will

take place in March, May and September 2016.
