Basically Italianate in style, it has an L-shaped front and two-story rear ell. The house stands on a large lot that was originally part of a fanm. It rests on a rmsonry foundation and has the low pitched, hipped roof typical of the Italianate style. The Stedrmn House's Italianate character is also shown in the brick, segmental-arch window caps. Porches accentuate portions of the north and west sides while the east and west facades are punctuated by bay windows. Originally the home had no eastern ell, but this was added in 1898 by attorney Philip Padgham, who purchased the house from the Stedmans. Though more recent altera- tions such as the garage and enclosed north porch have occurred, the Stedrmn House retains its original Ita 1 ian ate appearance.
