National Poetry DayOn Thursday 1st October 2020, it was National Poetry Day. To celebrate this day, we created multiple poems about this year's theme - Vision. It was all about how we see the world, and how we can improve it. Many people wrote about pollution or the Coronavirus. We also watched many people read poems online. What is it like for all pupils back at school? We’ve asked them! This is what Year 3 think: It’s fun! I like seeing my friends again. We have new friends in our class now too. A hard thing is that we have to remember to keep washing our hands. The best thing has been running on the fresh grass again but it is challenging getting up early!

This is what one Year 6 pupil says: Because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, breaktime is very different. We can’t play with different year groups and have certain areas that we play in outside with our bubble but we still wave to other bubbles across the playground! Every time we come in, we wash our hands to keep the germs away.

I am not alive, but I grow; I don't have lungs, but I need air; I don't have a mouth, but water kills me.

What am I?

You have to wait until the next Newsletter to find the answer!

RIDDLE!

For term 1, Y6 are learning about the arts and how to engage with them and the impact that they have on people and the world. There are many different areas in the Arts, which is very intriguing, like drama, dance, music, art, literature. We have discussed if everybody in the world has equal access to the Arts, we have watched famous operas and theatres with many amazing composers. Yr 6 are loving this chance to learn and we are hoping we get a chance to play some music and sing!

We have been looking at the story of Peter and the Wolf. We have discovered and watched many different types of this such as the original Disney version, a ballet performance, and a version that Alexander Armstrong made. We have also been making books and e-books of Peter and the Wolf on Google Slides and making a physical book. We have all enjoyed this creativity.

Sparrow Class LOVE Forest School!

Even though we have restrictions, it hasn’t changed how much we love PE! On Wednesdays outside, Y6 have Mr. Plumb leading their lesson, who is a professional in both boxing and powerlifting! He is currently teaching Yr 6 martial arts. The amount of exercise he has got us to do has got everyone’s legs hurting! We are learning how to be courageous and risk-taskers!

Learner Profile Attribute of the week!

This is the first time doing the Learner Profile Attribute of the week for the whole school. It’s going to be about one attribute in particular that we will all be trying to show in the classrooms.

Next week, the Learner Profile Attribute will be . Coming back to school is different and we all have to keep our heads open to new learning and new ways of doing things. So I thought open minded would help us remember to keep our minds open to the changes in school and life. We all know it’s rough at the minute but we need to work through it all together.

.

At present, tuck shop is not operating. Previously, money from this went to charities chosen by the pupils which was great. We have had to suspend this currently. However, pupils can bring in a healthy snack for their break times each day a piece of fruit for example but no chocolate or crisps Some classes will be helping us with suggestions for healthy snacks to help us make good choices.

Thank you for working with your children on creating healthy packed lunches together. We still see many lunch boxes with too many treats such as biscuits, crisps, cakes and, even sometimes without the healthy main part. Please note that we will continue to talk to your child about healthy lunches but you can help them the most by not giving them lots of treats to choose from and discussing what they like as a healthy main part. Thank you for continuing support with this. Please see the attached link for great ideas: https://healthy-kids.com.au/

A poem written for National Poetry Day

Vision by Frank - Year 6

My vision is the sea crashing onto the sea shore. The luminous fish flapping its fins.

The drift of the stiff breeze that rushes up my back. The echo of the seagulls that swoop in low for the leftover chips.

Mum envisions the hot sun and palm trees that loom over her.The smell of the BBQ that’s right next to her.

The heavy breath she’s taking for the sweet smell of the burger.

Dad envisions all the sports cars that sit all around him. The Lambas and Ferraris and Porsches.

He senses the rich smell of the car that whips up his nose like a scoop of ice cream.
