National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India,
Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th
Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post
Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led
community service activities & programmes. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on
experience to young students in delivering community service. Since inception of the NSS in
the year 1969, the strength of students in number increased from 40,000 to over 3.8 million up
to the end of March 2018. Students in various universities, colleges and Institutions of higher
learning have volunteered to take part in various community service programmes.
Main Objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
• To understand the community in which they work
• To understand themselves in relation to their community
• To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
• To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
• To utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
• To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
• To gain skills in mobilising community participation
• To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
• To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters
• To practise National Integration and Social Harmony
Motto:
The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds
the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students in developing feeling of appreciation for
others and in showing consideration to other living beings also. The philosophy of the NSS is
well doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is
ultimately depends on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers
shall strive for the well-being of the society.
Symbol:
The symbol for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark
Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The wheel portrays the cycle of
creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space,
The symbol, thus, stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving
of NSS for social change.

Activities of the NSS during the session 2020-21
I) Tree Plantation
Under the Self-Reliant India Campaign, a flag hoisting program was organized at Shri Lal Nath
Hindu College, Rohtak on August 15, 2020, along with the plantation program was done in the
college premises, in which the volunteers of NSS and YRC planted saplings in the college
premises. The SWAYAMSEWAKS planted saplings around their homes and they made the
people of the village aware and also got them planted. This program took place under the
supervision of NSS and YRC coordinators.
II) Blood Donation Camp on 93rd Birth Anniversary of Dr. Mangal Sein
On Tuesday, on the occasion of 93rd Birth Anniversary of Dr. Mangal Sein, flowers were
offered on behalf of the Hindu Education Society on the statue of Dr. Mangal Sein located in
the premises of Shri Lal Nath Hindu College. The chief guest of the program was former
Cooperation Minister Sh. Manish Grover. Blood donation camp was organized on this
occasion. The keynote speaker in the program Shri Ishwar Dutt Aggi , Founder Member, Shri
Lal Nath Hindu College, Rohtak said that Indian culture teaches that wherever quality
education is available, one should get it. Even if that person is your enemy. Mangal Sein used
to do every work with full dedication. Hindu education institute is the result of his devotion. It
is the responsibility of the college administration that we teach our students about them so that
students can make their life successful by taking inspiration from his life. Sh. Rajesh Kumar
Sehgal, President of Hindu Management Committee, remembering Dr. Mangal Sein, he said
that he was a vigilant watchman of Hindutva, nationalism and Indian culture. He was
associated with many social, religious and educational institutions. On this occasion, Sh.
Rajesh Sehgal announced the opening of the Centre for Advanced Research in Hindu College
in the name of Mangal Sein ji. For this, the management of Hindu Education Society
announced a grant of 21 lakhs. Principal Dr. Vijay Kumar welcomed all the guests and said
that Dr. Mangal Sein may not be with us today, but the dream he had cherished for Hindu
College will be fulfilled by the college administration. Shri Sudarshan Dhingra (Secretary,
Hindu Educational Institute) thanked the chief guest and keynote speaker. Shri Rajesh Kumar
Sehgal, Head of Hindu Education Society, has been appointed as a member of Town Planning
Committee by the Government of Haryana. For this achievement, he congratulated them. He
thanked all the members of the Management Committee of Hindu Education Society, with
whose cooperation the Hindu Educational Institute is constantly touching the heights.
Blood Donation Camp was organised by Youth Red Cross Coordinator Rajesh Gehlawat,
N.S.S. Coordinator Dr. Sandeep Kumar and Dr. Shalu Juneja, 50 units of blood were collected
in the camp. In the cultural program, college students presented welcome song and M.Sc.
student Diksha attracted everyone's attention by giving a wonderful dance performance. Stage
was Managed by Dr Anju Deshwal and Bandna Ranga. On this occasion Sh. Sudarshan
Dhingra ji, Sh. Krishna Lal ji, Sh. Ishwar Dutt Aghi ji, Shri Krishna Lal Ahuja ji, Shri Sita Ram
Uppal ji, Shri Rajendra Nath Chawla ji, Shri O.P. Juneja Ji, Shri Narsingh Das Chugh Ji, Shri
Chaudhary Ram Ahuja Ji, Shri Shiv Ditta Bala Ji, Shri Harbans Lal Sachdeva Ji, Shri K. L.
Miglani ji, Shri Gulshan Dhingra ji, Shri Gulshan Narang, Atmaprakash Ahuja ji were honored
with shawls by Minister Manish Grover and Hindu Education Management Committee. On
this occasion, all the staff members were present.
III) One Day Health Check-up Camp in VPO Lahli
A One-Day Medical Camp was organized in Lahli village on behalf of NSS and YRC unit of
Shri Lal Nath Hindu College, Rohtak under the aegis of Hindu Shikshan Sansthan under the
supervision of Dr. Shalu Juneja, Dr. Sandeep Kumar and Dr. Rajesh Gehlawat, in which free
health check-up was conducted for the people of the village. Skin-related diseases were
investigated, in which free medicines were given to the people of the village. Most of the
women were found to be anaemic in the health check-up camp. Dr. Vijay Kumar and Dr.
Pratibha from the Community Health centre of Kalanaur told that such health check-up camps
are very beneficial for the people living in the village by setting up the health check-up of 103
villagers in the camp. Head of Hindu Educational Institute, Sh. Rajesh Sehgal said that by
setting up such camps, we set an example for the welfare of the society. Dr. Vijay Kumar
wholeheartedly thanked the team from Kalanaur, village sarpanch Mrs. Renu Malhotra, Mr.
Bhimsen Malhotra, NSS and YRC volunteers and inspired them to organize similar programs
in the future There was special participation of volunteers Ashish, Deepak, Sanjeev, Purvansh,
Bhumika, Mona and Radhika.
IV) Seven Days NSS Camp
Seven-Days NSS Camp was organized on 22-28 February, 2021 by the National Service
Scheme at Shri Lal Nath Hindu College. In this camp, 101 students were registered. College
Principal , Dr. Vijay Kumar addressed all the students of the camp to run the camp smoothly
and to be disciplined in the camp and guided everyone with his thoughts and congratulated the
students on their participation in the camp.
In this camp, motivational lectures were given to the volunteers so that they could adopt them
in their life and could also inspire the society with all these statements. For the successful
operation of the camp, two students were selected as camp seniors. Daily prayer, exercise and
sports were included in the routine acivities of this camp. Dr. Virendra Baloda, Dr. Pradeep
and Ms. Mausam were appointed in the sports courtyard. On the second day of the camp, in
the morning session, Assistant Professor, Anila Bathla from Sanskrit Department told the
students about the "Importance of Yoga in Today's Era" and inspired the students to adopt yoga
in their lives. Dr. Kapil Kaushik, Assistant Professor, Gaur Brahmin Degree College, Rohtak
was the keynote speaker for the guidance of the students in the evening session who told about
"Youth and Social Concern" and inspired them to serve the society. On 24th and 25th February
2021, students were invited to "Dera Baba Shri Laxman Puri Ji Gaukaran Dham" in Rohtak
district.
In which he made the students aware of peace of mind and respect for the parents. In the
evening session, for the increase in the knowledge of the students, Assistant Professor Dr.
Vinod Kumar from Gaur Brahmin College of Education (Rohtak) was invited who told about
the duty and inspired them to adopt and advised them to carry out their responsibilities
smoothly. In the morning session on February 25, 2021, the students cleaned “Gokarna
Ashram” and “Gokarna Talab”. To make students aware about yoga and to tell the importance
of yoga in life, “Acharya Rishidev ji” yoga preacher from Patanjali Yogapeeth, Haridwaar were
invited who told them the importance of yoga and inspired them to adopt yoga in their lives.
In the morning session on 26 February 2021, after getting the students to pray, exercise and
play sports in the courtyard every day, tea and water were provided to all the students of the
camp. After this, the District First Aid Training Officer, Shri Ravidutt ji, who gave complete
information about “First Aid” to all the students of the camp and increased their knowledge,
as well as inspired to help the suffering people.
V) Webinar on World Red Cross Day on the Topic “Infection, Prevention
& Control (IPC) in the fight against COVID-19” By Dr Vikalp Bhatia
PGIMS Rohtak
A webinar was organized by the YRC and NSS Unit of Shri Lal Nath Hindu College Rohtak
on World Red Cross Day which was organized under the guidance of Youth Red Cross
Coordinator, Shri Rajesh Gehlawat, NSS Coordinators, Dr Shalu Juneja and Dr Sandeep. In
which 90 volunteers and staff participated. Dr. Vikalp Bhatia of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma
Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science, Rohtak was the keynote speaker of the webinar.
Dr. Bhatia elaborated the topic “COVID and its effect in multilevel” very well. Dr Bhatia
encouraged everyone to get vaccinated and assured that there are no side effects of the vaccine.
President, +Shri Rajesh Sehgal and other officials congratulated NSS and Youth Red Cross.
On this occasion, College Principal, Dr. Rashmi Chhabra said that the society can be made
aware by conducting such programs time to time. Dr. Neelam Maggu, Mrs.. Uma Sharma, Mrs.
Chandana Jain and others were present at Zoom platform.
VI) Pledge Ceremony on World No Tobacco Day
World No Tobacco Day was observed by the NSS and YRC of the college. An oath was
administered to the students not to use tobacco and any item made of tobacco in life. Dr Shalu
Juneja, Coordinator of NSS-Unit One, while addressing the students said that consuming
tobacco causes incurable disease in the body, so we should not use tobacco. YRC Coordinator,
Mr. Rajesh Gehlawat said that this day will be meaningful only if we do not use tobacco in
our life. Sh. Rajesh Sehgal, President, Hindu Education Society and other office bearers
congratulated the organizers and wished the unit of NSS and YRC.
VII) National Level Online Contest on World Environment Day –
World Environment Day Week was celebrated by YRC and NSS Unit of Shri Lal Nath Hindu
College Rohtak in which National Level Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition were
organized under the guidance of Dr. Shalu Juneja, NSS Unit-1 and Shri Rajesh Gehlawat ,.YRC
Coordinator For these competitions, 206 students from all over India got themselves registered.
The theme of poster making was 'Save Environment' and for Slogan Writing was 'Plantation'.
In these competitions, different states across the country like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar
Pradesh, Students from various colleges of Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Assam, Punjab and
Chandigarh exhibited their talent. The jury in slogan writing included Dr. Hardeep Singh, Shri
Lal Nath Hindu College Rohtak, Dr. Savita, Neki Ram College Rohtak, Mrs. Pinky, Gaur
College Rohtak and in Poster Making, the jury included Mrs. Anita, Government School, Jasia,
Dr. Harsh Lekha, Jat College, Hisar and Mrs. Bandna Ranga, Hindu College, Rohtak. Rohia
M. Kern got 1st position in slogan writing. Second place went to Atka, Government College,
Shimla and third place went to Lalit Kumar, Hindu College, Rohtak and Aarti Saini, I.B.
College, Panipat.
The first position in poster making was achieved by Ram, Government College, Shimla,
Second Position was claimed by Ritu, Hindu College, Rohtak, Harleen Kaur, Sarup Rani
College, Amritsar and Shri Yugisamata Sharma, B.H College, Assam got Third Position. One-
day National Seminar on 5th June was also organized by NSS and YRC unit, in which 350
participants from different states participated. At the end of the webinar, the results of various
competitions were announced by YRC Coordinator Rajesh Gehlawat. College Principal, Dr.
Rashmi Chhabra congratulated all the winners and encouraged those who did not secure any
rank by asking them to keep trying and said that without the participation of the participants,
such competitions cannot be organized. College Managing Committee head Mr. Rajesh Sehgal
and other officials congratulated all the winners and appreciated the efforts of Dr. Shalu Juneja,
Dr. Sandeep, Mrs. Reena and Mr. Rajesh Gehlawat who played a significant role in the
successful operation of YRC unit.
VIII) National Webinar on World Environment Day on Topic

One-day National webinar was organized on World Environment Day by YRC and NSS Unit
of Shri Lal Nath Hindu College, Rohtak in which 356 participants from different states from
all over India participated. The keynote speaker in this national webinar was Dr. Vipin Kumar,
Assistant Professor, Banasthali University, Rajasthan, who told how the environment can be
saved. Today, there is so much pollution in the environment that even breathing has become
difficult. He told that today the human being is sitting on the same branch of the tree which is
being cut, that is, we ourselves are responsible for polluting the environment, if all the people
in the world understand their responsibility, then the environment can be saved. While
maintaining the development, we also have to save the environment. Coordinator of
Commerce Department Dr. Neelam Maggu, succinctly said that we all should plant one
sapling from today itself and take care of it so that the environment can be saved. At the end
of the webinar, Mrs. Uma Sharma thanked the keynote speaker and all the participants. College
Principal, Dr. Rashmi Chhabra while welcoming the keynote speaker said that if the

environment is to be saved, then everyone has to be made aware and we should not play with
the nature. Principal of the college's managing committee, Mr. Rajesh Sehgal ji and other
officials congratulated the position holders and gave best wishes to YRC and NSS for the
successful conduct of the national webinar. The program was successfully conducted by Dr.
Shalu Juneja, NSS Coordinator, Unit-1. On this occasion Dr. Neelam Maggu, Mrs. Uma
Sharma, Dr. Shalu Juneja, Shri Rajesh Gehlawat and others were present.
IX) Mental Health Issues Among Adolescents
An online Webinar was organized under the auspices of Department of
Economics, Sh. L.N. Hindu College, Rohtak in collaboration with National
Service Scheme, Unit - 2 on June 10, 2021 under the guidance of Respected
Principal, Dr. Rashmi Chhabra. Topic of the webinar was “Mental Health Issues
among adolescents”. Dr. Vikas Punia, Assistant Professor, S.G.T. University,
Gurugram was the keynote speaker of the Day. Mrs. Bandana Ranga, Head,
Department of Economics gave the brief introduction of the guest and welcomed
him. Around 251 participants attended the webinar.
XI) One Week National Level Online Yoga Workshop
One Week National Level Online Yoga Workshop was organized under the auspices of NSS
and YRC Unit of Sh. L.N. Hindu College, Rohtak on behalf of Ministry of Youth Affairs and
Sports, Government of India in collaboration of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Rohtak from June 14-
20 , 2021. This Workshop was presided over by College Principal, Dr. Rashmi Chhabra in
which Dr. Satyawan Baroda, M.D.U., Rohtak trained the participants with full enthusiasm. NSS Coordinator, Unit-1, Dr Shalu Juneja told that this yoga workshop will be very effective
in promoting yoga. 375 participants from different states of India participated in this yoga
school. In this, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Karnataka, Assam, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and YRC
Coordinator Rajesh Gahlawat, who was a participant from Chandigarh , told that this workshop
is being organized in collaboration with the Nehru Yuva Kendra, Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Sports, Government of India, in which youth workers of Nehru Yuva Kendra Rohtak also
participate as participants. Nehru Yuva Kendra Rohtak District Youth Officer Mr. Ashish
Sangwan ji told that the workers of Nehru Yuva Kendra are mostly associated with the village.
When these workers will learn yoga from this yoga workshop, then the promotion and spread
of yoga will increase in the village too. On the first day of Yoga workshop, Dr. Satyavan
Baroda ji started the Yoga workshop with the sound of Om, in which he highlighted what is
Ashtanga Yoga and what is its importance in our lives. We should pay special attention to the
yoga postures of kapaal Bharti and Cervical and said that the first happiness is healthy body,
in 7 days we will all practice Ashtanga Yoga. College Principal Dr. Rashmi Chhabra ji while
welcoming everyone, called upon everyone to learn yoga. When we teach yoga to everyone,
only then the purpose of this yoga workshop will be fulfilled. The Secretary of the College
Management Committee, Mr. Sudarshan Dhingra ji also expressed his views in the workshop
and said that by organizing such a yoga workshop, the promotion and dissemination of yoga
can be done widely.and then he Congratulated and gave best wishes to the YRC unit. The
College Managing Committee head Mr. Rajesh Sehgal ji and other office bearers also extended
their best wishes. Dr. Shalu Juneja, Student Anushka Sharma successfully conducted this
National Yoga Workshop. At the end of the workshop, Dr. Shalu Juneja thanked the Managing
Committee, College Principal, Yoga Teacher Mr. Ashish Sangwan and all the participants.
Students Vinay Grover, Pravesh Kumar and all the teachers were cooperating in the successful
conduct of this workshop.

In collaboration with NSS and YRC, Covid Vaccination Camp was organized by Bharat Vikas
Parishad Rohtak Branch at Shri Lal Nath Hindu College, Rohtak on the occasion of
International Yoga Day. Worthy Principal Dr Rashmi Chhabra told that the society can be
saved from corona by such vaccination camps. President Shri Rajesh Sehgal and other officials
congratulated staff members, NSS and YRC students for successful organization of this
vaccination camp and motivated them to organize similar camps. Branch President Lokesh
Jain, Program Coordinator Rajesh Sehgal, Ashok Kumar Gupta, Anand Garg, Anurag Jain,
Amit Gandhi, Shri Rajesh Gehlawat, Dr. Shikha Phogat, Dr. Shalu Juneja, Dr. Sandeep Kumar,
