Desirae Acosta is a Journalism major and Theater minor at Nevada. She has fully immersed

herself in the campus community by serving several roles, including being a Resident Assistant in

Nye Hall, an Orientation Guide, and the Director of Tours for Nevada Student Ambassadors. She

currently serves as the ASUN Director of Campus Unity, Philanthropy Chair for Delta Delta Delta, and

a member of the Integrated Marketing and Communications Competition team. Acosta takes pride in

being a student at Nevada and is passionate about making a positive difference to the institution that

has granted her so many opportunities. In order to do so, as president she plans to focus on key aspects

that contribute to the success of Nevada students. This includes providing opportunities for students

to become civically engaged beyond the University campus, implementing dynamic initiatives that

will encourage academic success among the student body, and targeting a wider student population to

increase and promote campus involvement.

Jake Pereira

When a group of driven and innovative students come together to serve a larger purpose, there

is enormous potential. Combine this with an operating budget of over 2 million dollars, and you are

presented with something incredible. This is ASUN. Jake Pereira will use this platform to transform

and community members will remember for years to come. It is time to innovate. We must demand

of students who are willing to go above and beyond to serve Nevada. This diversity of thought will

allow for all perspectives to play an active role in shaping the association. As President, Pereira will

for the students to maintain their voice, they must actively contribute to decision making at all levels

of this institution. His involvement at Nevada has invoked a passion for building our community and

strengthening our Pack. Pereira believes that we have only scratched the surface of what is possible

his Vice Presidential running mate. Together they will: (1) Strengthen the Association by empowering

community by uniting people through Nevada traditions, athletics, academic events and large-scale

entertainment. (3) Enable continued student success while providing relevant resources and lobbying

for their issues in local, state and national governments. Vote Pereira and Bybee for ASUN President

resources available to CABNR students such as ; clubs, the student center, and undergraduate student research

opportunities. He also hoped to create a CABNR Student Council to give the students in his college a bigger

voice on campus.

,1**#.# 14 0/$%'#$$Ken Brooke  Born and raised here in the great city of Reno, Ken Brooke has always tried to be involved

in helping improve our community; he was drawn to running for ASUN Senate for just this reason.

It is his goal to promote everyone to become more involved within our school’s community. Active

involvement in one’s school is a great means of helping improve the institution’s retention rate, and

as an ASUN senator one of his main priorities would be to contribute to this rate by strengthening ties

between our clubs and organizations and our student government. Seeing this school improve with the

momentum that we currently have is one of his greatest joys, and he also plans on getting involved with

the development of our new gym and any other programs that come under way. Brooke additionally

Senator, Carter sat on the Civic Engagement and Academics Committees. She also stayed involved in

several other clubs and organizations and her sorority, while still maintaining a high enough GPA to

make the dean’s list. She is running for a second term, not only to make her current goals and projects

as strong as possible, but also to continue to make Nevada a better place. She wants to continue her

goal of making COED more known on campus and making the College of Education a place where the

students want to be. She has already been doing this by constantly working with the new dean, who is

the college with events as such as the COED week, and making progress on cheaper printing for

College of Education students and a College of Education newsletter. She want to continue these efforts

and social life here at the University. Overall, Carter wants to get the COED students more involved on

and off campus, and she wants to assist in making this university an even better place to be.

Jade Mack

If elected into Senate, Jade Mack would like to; continue the Safety Walk Initiative which will

facilitate student safety on campus, give the COED a larger presence on campus, foster a greater sense

to promote the music program’s productions and concerts more on campus and in the community.

Kevin Bezick  As a Senator, Kevin Bezick will strive to give the COENG a larger University footprint

be achieved by informing engineering students of available choices and giving them the opportunity

to voice their opinions to him. In addition, he wants to create an engineering based leadership and

entrepreneurship program in coalition with the College of Business. This program will prepare

engineers to rise up the business hierarchy instead of lingering at the bottom. In addition, it will also

give students the tools to become effective leaders. With the help of the new entrepreneurship program,

Originally from Las Vegas, Anthony Ramirez graduated from Rancho High School in 2012.

He is currently a sophomore studying Chemical Engineering, but a junior by credits. By using what he

has learned over the past few years as a student in the COENG, Ramirez seeks to implement realistic

affordable engineering programs, such as: Mathcad and Matlab, increasing SI s essions, SI leaders,

takes STEM – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics – and makes it STEAM, adding the arts/humanities. This movement is working on ways for students of STEM and art/humanities disciplines to merge

of this movement, and the ways in which STEM and arts/humanities students can work together.

Eleanor Harvison

of the Government Operations Committee. Harvison has been involved in ASUN since her freshman year

and has been working diligently for two years to make Nevada a better place for all by being a well-rounded

representative for the COLA. Harvison is part of the COLA Student Advisory Board and wants to see this

board grow to have a wider impact on the college and to have greater student involvement; she would like to

eventually see Nevada dedicate a building to the COLA, that would provide a valuable space for Liberal Arts

majors to meet, connect, and further their careers. Harvison plans to continue to develop the Saving Swipe

to invest their future in Nevada. Harvison is dedicated to Nevada; she has worked very hard to ensure a better

future for Nevada and hopes to continue serving the COLA as a Senator for the 82nd Session.

Quinn Jonas

Quinn Jonas understands ASUN’s role in continuing the progress of Nevada. Understanding

that supports the University by introducing legislation that would create a Community Shared Agriculture

program to directly connect students and on-campus dining options to local farmers and ranchers to provide

more local, seasonal, healthier dining options. Jonas plans to increase the promotion of University dance,

theater, and literary programs to showcase the artistic talent the University has to offer. Jonas plans to increase

USAC’s foreign language partner program which allows students to establish lasting connections with study

education.

David Legaspi

David Legaspi is a junior studying Psychology with an emphasis in research with a minor in music.

He loves Nevada and has made organizations within the university his home by becoming an active member

of several. He has also become an active researcher for two research labs and has represented Nevada bypresenting research posters at conventions. He believes that undergraduate research is a key component to a

student’s development and pursuit for higher learning. He also believes that communication is key. Through

Michael Lienhard

A freshman and double major in political science and economics, Michael Lienhard plans on leading

Nevada into the future. In his short time here at Nevada, he has been named as the only freshman Alpha Wolf in

the Blue Crew. In addition to supporting our athletic teams, he has also helped ASUN by serving as chair of the

Committee on Members-at-Large. While not currently a member of the Greek community, Lienhard supports

and hopes to get involved in it soon. As a Senator, he wants to create a mentorship program aimed at helping

navigate and succeed new students in the COLA. Not stopping at helping freshmen, Lienhard wants to help

graduating seniors get a job after graduation by creating a program that allows them to share their resume and

make this vision a reality, and to help Liberal Arts students past, present, and future get ahead, stay ahead, and

succeed both in college and in life.

Sydney Nelson

An Oregon native, Sydney Nelson now calls Nevada home. In her second year at Nevada, Nelson

is currently pursuing her degree in Criminal Justice. Although graduating a year early, Nelson has made the

most of her time at Nevada by staying active on campus as a member of the COLA Student Advisory Board,

Mock Trial Team, pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta as well as The University Student Ambassadors. Off-

campus, Nelson mentors future members of the Wolf Pack through the Reno Police Department organization

360Blueprint. As a Senator for the College of Liberal Arts, she plans on creating a Student Advisory Board for

Non-Traditional Students. This board will allow a forum in which they can voice their concerns and wants for

the University to be presented in Senate Chambers. Nelson also plans on creating a medium in which Alumni

and current students can connect for potential employment and internship opportunities. As a Senator for the

COLA, Nelson plans to serve on the Committee on University Affairs, in doing so she plans on connecting the

many different University programs and clubs to students in the COLA. She also hopes to continue to serve her

constituents by representing their voice in chambers and actively engaging with students through social media,

the classroom and by tabling. Bring a fresh face into the 82nd session, vote Sydney Nelson for Senate.

Melissa Ung

Melissa Ung is a freshman dual majoring in Criminal Justice Pre-Law and Journalism at Nevada.

She was always been involved in leadership throughout high school and continues to strive for that throughout

her college career. Ung has served as a Member-at-Large in the 81st Senate Session and hopes to use what she

has learned, if she is elected as Senator for the COLA. She is an active member in Delta Gamma and currently

serves as the Director of Recruitment. Ung hopes to get students more acknowledged and more engaged

with what is happening around campus. She does not want to only represent the COLA; she wants every

student to know that their voices are being heard. Ung’s main goal is to make a difference at the University

year’s school policy on the prohibition of tobacco on campus. She wants students to become more aware of

decisions that are being made within the Senate. Ung would also like to provide a service that gives students

for students to contact and communicate with university administration and get help from university services

when they need it. If elected, Sung will be the intermediate between university administration and the students.

Another important issue that Sung would like to focus on if he is elected is preparing students for post-graduate

graduate or pre-professional school and would like to provide students with resources to prepare and get

into these schools. If elected, he would like to organize a series of workshops and seminars on preparing and

applying for post-graduate and pre-professional schools to help students who are interested in pursuing their

education further than just a bachelor’s degree. Sung’s hobbies include playing basketball, playing the piano,

and skiing. In his spare time, he also volunteers with Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada and as a tutor at

Washoe Innovations High School.

everyone that Science is the future, and therefore as collective science majors, we ourselves are the future.

Dominguez acknowledges the COLA as one of the fastest growing on campus, and as a representative wants

to ensure that all science majors and s tudents across campus feel our presence. Dominguez aims to instill pride

for students within our college as well as open doors for other students to discover and venture science the

way we do. This means pushing for public speakers to lecture on fascinating topics, ensuring availability of

that our students are not properly represented in the ASUN Senate. This goes beyond just academic colleges,

our students needs are not being met. Recently, her peers have come to her and asked how to get their voices

heard about different issues. McCrillis told them about ASUN, and the Senate and realized that she can be the

voice that they need. McCrillis wants to increase the voice of the unrepresented students, such as discovering
