From The Editor Matt Selby

As the holidays quickly ap-proach, bringing along with them awhirlwind of festivities and celebra-tions, I would like to take this oppor-tunity to wish you all a wonderfulThanksgiving from all of us here atthe New Tampa Lifestyles. From ourdedicated advertisers to our loyalreaders, it is you we have to thank forour continued success and growthover the past few years. It is all of usworking together that keeps ourcommunity strong – from our localbusiness owners to all the other hard-working employees and entrepre-neurs that call this area home.

To so many, Thanksgiving is notjust about getting together and cele-brating with family and friends over adelicious meal of turkey, sweet pota-toes, and pumpkin pie, but also sig-nifies a time to reflect on the pastyear and give thanks for the manyblessings in their lives – including the

joyous opportunity to be united forsuch an occasion.

This Thanksgiving I would liketo take the opportunity to say howgrateful I am to be part of such anextraordinary community! The pastfew years I have been writing for theNeighborhood News & Lifestyles, andnow also the New Tampa Lifestyles, Ihave had the chance to meet somany amazing local business ownersand they have really left a lasting im-pression! They are some of the mostdedicated, honest, hard-workingpeople I have ever met, who, nomatter how busy, will still find timeand money to support local schoolprograms, athletics programs andmany other great charities. It hasbeen a real pleasure getting to knowthe people in this community and Ilook forward to many great years tocome!

The New Tampa Lifestyles team

would also like to thank you, all ofour readers, for your continued sup-port over the past year. We wish youa prosperous and bountiful Thanks-giving and many happy years tocome!

This Thanksgiving, millions ofpeople across the country will cometogether with their closest friendsand family. Wherever you may be andhowever you may celebrate, I en-courage you to think about the manythings in your life that you have tobe thankful for and take a moment to

show gratitude and appreciation. As Henri J.M. Nouwen once

said, “Gratitude goes beyond the‘mine’ and ‘thine’ and claims thetruth that all of life is a pure gift. Inthe past I always thought of gratitudeas a spontaneous response to theawareness of gifts received, but now Irealize that gratitude can also belived as a discipline. The discipline ofgratitude is the explicit effort to ac-knowledge that all I am and have isgiven to me as a gift of love, a gift tobe celebrated with joy.”

Happy Thanksgiving fromNew Tampa Lifestyles

Aimee has always enjoyed writ-ing and welcomed the challenge ofnon-fiction. “As a teacher, I like totake complex topics and make thembite-sized for little guys,” she says. The topics of play also appealed toher. She’s an athlete, coach andsports fan. Ever since she was little, she made up games to play with herbrother and friends. Now she lovescreating games for her PreK3 class!

Dr. Duga, Dr. Feeney, and theirstaff are helpful in every way – frommaking your child feel excited aboutcoming to the dentist to navigatingthe insurance companies for you. Justtake a look around the room and it’sevident that the staff loves their job.Smiling faces and laughter light upevery room.

After speaking with Dr. Duga andDr. Feeney it was immediately clear to

me that they absolutely love kids, andto me, that’s the most importantthing. As the saying goes, you have tolove what you do to be the best atwhat you do. Taking this into consid-eration, it’s no wonder why so manyNew Tampa families trust their chil-dren with the care of Dr. Duga andDr. Feeney.

When I asked Shawna Adams-Feeney, DMD what she loved mostabout her job she immediately smiledand said, “Everything! From the firstmeeting with a sometimes-nervous kidand helping him to feel comfortablewith us, to later on down the road, when that same kid comes in and tellsus he couldn’t wait to come see us

again. I’ve been working with Dr.Duga for over 10 years now and havelearned so much from him; but I thinkI learn just as much from the kids! Ireally do have the best job in theworld with the best people aroundme. I couldn’t have asked for more!”

“It really is all about the kids,”says Paul H. Duga, DDS, who trulyenjoys working with kids of all agesinto their young adulthood. Dr. Dugais very impressed with the youngstersgrowing up in the New Tampa area.He lights up when he talks about thefuture. “We have so many cool pa-tients; I enjoy listening to them – thefuture looks bright to me, not scary, because there are some great kidscoming up.”

Dr. Duga and his wife Sue movedto the New Tampa area to raise theirthree children because of the positivefamily-oriented lifestyle that the areapromotes. They love it here and weare very happy to have them in ourcommunity! Twelve years ago, afteralready having a successful practice,Dr. Duga decided to create his perfectvision of a pediatric dental office. Theresult is magnificent! Efficient, vi-brant, energetic, with an open treat-ment area as well as private treatmentrooms, this practice is perfect for kidsof all ages, from toddlers at their firstcheck-up to teens needing their wis-dom teeth extracted.

The waiting room is huge, linedwith plenty of comfortable chairs forparents and siblings alike. Speaking ofsiblings, the office has an entire areadevoted to brothers and sisters of pa-tients that may not have an appoint-ment that day but still wanted to comealong and have some fun in the office. How many dental offices can say thatbrothers and sisters actually want tocome along for their sibling’s appoint-ments? Not very many, I’m sure!

Dr. Duga and Dr. Feeney bothfeel that education is a key component

in providing excellent pediatric dentalcare. They take time to teach theiryoung patients to care for their teethand foster life-long habits that willhelp keep them healthy. “We want toget them on the right track,” says Dr.Feeney. “As a pediatric practice, ourfocus is prevention more than any-thing – we want to teach our patientsto have good habits.”

And, it seems to be working. Dr.Duga shares, “We look at the long-term; we want each child to be healthynow and to have a healthy future. Most of our teen patients have greatteeth – no cavities, no fillings – andthey’ll go through life with healthyteeth and gums. I tell the staff all the

time – The most important thing is theeducation they walk away with; thatwill benefit them their whole lives.”

Dr. Feeney and Dr. Duga knowhow important your children are toyou. Both have families of their ownand when providing a positive dentalexperience to their patients, one thingresonates above all else – it’s a simpleconcept, as Dr. Duga says, “Dr.Feeney and I treat our patients theway we’d want our kids treated.”

Patients truly appreciate the caretheir children receive from Dr. Duga,Dr. Feeney and their staff. Parentsdrive their children from as far out asBrooksville to make sure their childrenget the best care and enjoy the kid-
