While we know that there are many ways to be organised, it’s a great opportunity to talk to your children about the importance of looking after their belongings. With the assistance of Chloe and Luke at assembly yesterday, I highlighted the mountain of JUMPERS and other items in the lost property room. We pick up MANY jumpers from the yard each day. You can help your child by reminding them if they take their jumper off, it’s their responsibility is to ‘put it away’, (either in their bag or close to their classroom door). Ensuring that your child’s clothing is labelled assists them to recognise their own belongings. Please visit the lost property room to locate your missing items and ensure that all students have warm jumpers as we head into the wintery months ahead. You may have noticed a number of temporary fences that have been erected around our beautiful, old brick building! The fences are the first stage in inspecting and repairing the lintels (concrete above doorways and windows). It’s an exciting time seeing works occurring and improvements happening to our learning spaces. With the end in mind, we are asking everyone to be patient during the works. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience. Over the next week, each teacher will have one day out of their classroom to fully plan for term three. Teachers work very hard on these days and timetabling is reorganized for the week to ensure high quality programing continues. All teachers have been working tirelessly composing Semester One Reports that capture your children's learning and next goals. I am currently in the process of reading all the reports and I am extremely pleased with the learning progress of our children. I do encourage all families to make an appointment for next Tuesday to collect your child’s report and to have a learning discussion with your child’s teacher. From the Principal ‘Being Organised’ has been the student focus in Term Two. While we know that

there are many ways to be organised, it’s a great opportunity to talk to your children

about the importance of looking after their belongings. With the assistance of Chloe and Luke at assembly yesterday, I

highlighted the mountain of JUMPERS and other items in the lost property room.

We pick up MANY jumpers from the yard each day. You can help your child by reminding them if they take their jumper off,

it’s their responsibility is to ‘put it away’, (either in their bag or close to their classroom door). Ensuring that

your child’s clothing is labelled assists them to recognise their own belongings. Please visit the lost property room to locate your missing items and ensure that all students have warm jumpers as we head

into the wintery months ahead.

been erected around our beautiful, old brick building! The fences are the first stage in inspecting and repairing the lintels (concrete above doorways and windows). It’s an exciting time seeing works

occurring and improvements happening to our learning spaces. With the end in mind, we are asking everyone to be patient during

the works. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

Over the next week, each teacher will have one day out of their classroom to fully plan for term three. Teachers work very hard on

PARENTS AND FRIENDS Annual Pie Drive Connells Bakery have the pie orders. These will be delivered frozen to each classroom from 3.00pm on Thursday the 23rd

June, just before the end of Term. Thank you to all who have supported the fundraiser.

Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser We will be selling sausages and drinks on Sunday 3rd July at Bunnings from 9:00am to 4:00pm, so make sure you tell your

friends and family to pop down and help us raise money for our swimming pool grand stand. If you wish to help us on

the day simply come along and lend a hand. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

Parents and Friends

BREAKFAST CLUB The Breakfast Club continues to thrive, serving a light breakfast to about 100 children each Friday morning of term. We

are most grateful to Connells Bakery who provide all the bread which makes such delicious toast. And there is good

news – from Term 3 we will be expanding the Club to 2 mornings per week!

We are fortunate to have received government support and they will provide much of the food (not the bread) lowering our costs so we can go to 2 days. We will resume on Friday 15th July, and for the rest of the term we will serve

breakfast on both Tuesdays and Fridays. Breakfast will now include tinned fruit and hot baked beans.

We are also moving! Breakfast will now be served in the Senior Learning Centre instead of the Art Room.

The club is run by volunteers from the local churches. We would love some extra help now we’re going to two days/

week, so if any parent may be willing to help please contact Ross Stanford on 0402 343124.

PLEASE NOTE – There will be no breakfast offered on the last day of this term, Friday 24th June.

MUSIC NEWS Providing students with links to other curriculum areas, through the Music Program, is a constant

curriculum aim. This week, as part of class time, we looked at Alison Lester’s book ‘Magic Beach’

as a way of providing picture evidence of places in our current song ‘Wind and Rain.’ Looking

at pictures of ‘wild horses’ (a reference to the shape of waves), the beach in summer and winter

(‘southwest sky, streaked with grey’) has helped students form links between song lyrics and

images. We have enjoyed playing chords with our song, this week making chords on wooden

xylophone and glockenspiel.

Making Music, Making Marimbas program – 4M

Today (Thursday) 3 /4 A and B, along with each of the 5/6 classes enjoyed workshop sessions

with Ian Chambers. We learnt marimba parts and added to our knowledge of how to play chords

on these giant, fun instruments. We also added percussion parts using a variety of instruments.

Thank you to Ian for his expertise and teaching in this area. The rest of the school will enjoy a day of

workshops next term.

IN SPORT Division Netball

Division Netball will be played on Tuesday 21st June at Inverloch Recreation Reserve. We have 2 teams representing our

school.

Girls team will play Leongatha PS at 10.00am

Mixed team will play Inverloch PS at 11.00am

Both teams have worked exceptionally hard throughout this term to develop the team work, skills and tactics which

enabled them to play a very solid brand of netball. This could not have happened without the help from coaches

Wendy Allen, Simone Britt and Rach Fraser.

District Soccer

On Friday 3rd June, Wonthaggi Primary School took part in the South Coast District Soccer Competition held at Rec #1

and #2 Wonthaggi (boys) and Wonthaggi Primary School (girls). The student behaviour was outstanding and they

embraced the ‘have a go’ motto of the day.

Due to another team withdrawing from the competition at late notice, we were able to enter 2 girls teams. This

enabled 26 enthusiastic girls to take part when normally only 11 get to play. One of our girls teams was the overall

winner on that day. However, as a number of these players are involved in the upcoming netball competition, a

decision has been made to allow Cowes PS to take part in the next stage of soccer competition.

Thank you to parents and friends of our school for their support throughout the day.
