From the Principal It has been wonderful to see all the children return to school to share their adventures during the school holiday break. This week our Prep children joined

our Dolphin Groups and they also attended their very first weekly assembly. The

children were very excited to meet up with their Dolphin Groups and

participate in the planned activities. It was wonderful to see them walk into the

Senior Learning Centre for assembly as part of our wider school community. The

children showed us once again, that they were more than able to manage the

tasks that we asked of them; taking it all in their stride.

Dolphin Groups

Just a reminder, our weekly Dolphin groups are a very unique way of building

social skills, relationships and respect for all children and adults in our

community. It is a strategy that reduces bullying, as through friendship and

understanding we build tolerance for each other. Each week the children work

together in small groups (prep to 6) on tasks (indoor and outdoor) that involve

“getting along together” and these are led by children in grade 5&6.

Special Visits

One of the many highlights in my day is

when children come to my office to

show me the new learning that they

have achieved. Yesterday I had special

visitors from 1/2D who explained to me

about how a clock “is just a number line

made into a circle” They were so excit-

ed in their discovery.

Somers Camp

We currently have 8 lucky children attending the Somers Camp for 9 nights; I

have spoken to a colleague at the camp, who has said that all our children are

having a great time and are “so well behaved”. They are certainly a credit to

themselves, their families and our school. We will look forward to hearing more

from them on their return.

MUSIC NEWS Welcome back to Music, Term 2!

A number of exciting musical experiences and learning will be taking place. These include:

- Grade 5/6s learning ukulele

- Grade 3/4 learning recorder

- Billson Street Singers recommences on Tuesday lunchtimes 2pm. Children in grades 2 – 6 are welcome to join with the

intention of committing to each Tuesday throughout the term.

We are combining with Community Music Victoria and the Wonthaggi Men’s Shed to make & then learn to play marimbas. These are similar to large wooden xylophones, where chords & notes are played to accompany songs or as

instrumental pieces. More information on this special project later in the term.

‘Hits old & new’ is still our Music room theme, with songs focusing on class themes as well as revisiting old favourites.

SPORTS NEWS House Athlecs

Next Friday 22nd April, Wonthaggi Primary School will be holding its House Athletics event. The athletics will be split into

two groups:

Grade Two - Grade Six will start at 10.30am and conclude at 2.30pm.

Grade Prep and Grade Once will take part in a half day athletics carnival starting at 1.00pm.

Family and friends of our students are invited to come along and support the students.

There will be a BBQ (run by the Parents and Friends) that will provide sausages $2.50 each and drinks $1 each.

a lunch order.

The House Athletics will form the basis of our team to compete at the Division Athletics on Friday May 9th at Wonthaggi

Secondary College.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Athletics!

If you are ale to assist our staff at the athletics carnival (no experience is necessary) it would be much appreciated.
