In the morning, the Prince had ar- rived to Esbjerg by ship on board the Royal Danish Yacht m/s Danne- brog” together with her Majesty the Queen of Denmark – Margrethe II. In the course of a very tight pro- gramme for the day, 50 minutes were allocated for the visit at Blue Water. The red carpet had been rolled out, and, in a manner befitting his rank, Prince Henrik was received on the stairs by Kurt Skov, Gyrithe Skov and Jørn Bøllund. From a clear, blue sky, the sun shone on the golden trim and rows of medals on the Prince Consort’s Royal Visit to Blue Water Esbjerg admiral’s uniform. In Blue Water’s reception hall, the Prince and his 7-person entourage were received by the Management under the flashing lights from press photographers. Following a short company intro- duction in Kurt Skov’s office, a tour among the company’s 192 em- ployees started. Moods were high, and the Prince Consort was especially interested when being introduced to the GPS system, as he could spot a Blue Wa- ter trailer – purely coincidentally –at the exact moment when the system zoomed in on his French residence Chateau Caix. It was waiting there in case the Prince decided to book a wine transport. The surprise grew even further, when we mysterious- ly produced a photo of the trailer parked between the vineyard and the Prince’s chateau. The Prince took the photograph with him. The local press followed us most of the way around the office, and in honour of the occasion, a young pi- anist from Vestjysk Musikkonserva- torium (Academy of Music) played the piano, permanently residing in the entrance hall. The Prince had a short conversation with the pianist, remarking on his repertoire. Time was short, but we still ma- naged everything. Fortunately, we also had time for a relaxed fare- well with a cup of coffee, a glass of French dessert wine and our canteen’s own home baked almond and marzipan cakes. As a reminder of the day, Kurt Skov presented the Prince Consort with a fresh from print coffee table book by local photographer Bent Med- vind – showing in pictures the sea and area around the port entrance to Esbjerg. It was a big day for the company and its employees. Our agency, project, terminal and stevedore staff had a very busy summer month ahead of them when ”Galaxy III”, the biggest jack-up drilling rig ever calling at Esbjerg, arrived at Sønderhavn (the South Port) in early July.A giant coordination job lay ahead of us together with Semco Mari-time, who was entrusted with the renovation and upgrading of the 26,500 ton rig, which normally operates in the British sector of the North Sea. ”Galaxy III” is owned by the world’s biggest rig operator,

In connection with the Danish Oil & Gas Consortium, DONG Ener-gy’s, invitation to submit tenders for their stevedoring services in the Port of Esbjerg, our Stevedore and Terminal Manager, Per Jen-sen, proudly announces that Blue Water has won the contract.Blue Water has since 1.7 taken care of handling and stevedoring of DONG’s supply vessel ”Northern Wave” and the ”Esvagt Gamma”, discharging and loading drill pipes and other drilling equipment from the DONG E&P Offshore Base in connection with DONG’s drilling operation in the North Sea. The

In April, Blue Water in Esbjerg loaded a large flare boom on board the m/v ”Wilson Tees” for onwards shipment to Holland. (Flare booms are mounted on offshore installa-tions in order to burn any flammab-le gasses that may build up around the rig). The 122 tonne heavy flare boom measured 65 x 8 x 7.5 me-tres and was constructed by Dansk Svejse Teknik (Danish Welding Technique).

Flare Boom shipped to Holland

Loading of the large flare boom on board the m/s ”Wilson Tees”.

Transporting the flare boom from the factory to Esbjerg Port was a lo-gistic challenge and the largest ever road transport in Esbjerg. In order to move the large cargo onto the quayside, a hole had to be made in the fence behind Blue Water’s of-fice building. The subsequent load-ing went as planned and the flare boom was successfully shipped to Holland.

Blue Water Herning will be ce- lebrating its 5th anniversary on 1.9. At the opening, the number of staff was 3 with Mogens Møller at the helm. The office was originally a ser-vice/booking office, offering the local customers in region Herning a regular contact person no matter whether it concerned road, sea, air or courier. Blue Water’s strategy about being close to the customers has also in this connection born fruit, as the number of staff from the modest start until now has increased to 12. Today the office is divided into 2 activities, one of which is general forwarding - by road, sea, air and courier - through the various traffic

Blue Water has taken over the sea and air activities of Otto Hansen & Co, Vejle, Denmark as from 2.6. The acquisition happens as Otto Hansen has decided to focus solely on road transport. This new initiative suits our wish to expand our overseas activities. During recent years, we have seen a reasonable, organic growth in this area. The acquisition of exis- ting activities is, however, always an interesting and somewhat faster process. We have known and co-operated with Otto Hansen for many years.

Gran Spedisjon is a minor niche forwarder with 30 years of experi-ence in transport, freight forward-ing, domestic distribution and lo-gistics. We have known the Gran family - Liv-Mette and Knut-Erik Gran - for several years and know that they run a reputable business. After our takeover of Unifeeder Norway’s forwarding activities earlier this year, we needed to have our own establishment in Oslo, and as the Gran family was consider-ing the future and a possible ge-

With the employment of the two experienced forwarders, Tarja Saari and Ilse Carita Tol-mala, we guarantee our customers a quality service on the traffic to/from Finland now and in future. We know each other’s strong points as we have been working closely to-gether since 2001. In Denmark, Blue Water Aarhus is responsible for the traffic to/from Finland, and during recent years, the activities in Finland have deve-loped considerably, explains Poul Aarre/Blue Water Aarhus. Today a staff of 5 are handling more than 50 trailers to and from these areas on a weekly basis. Mogens Møller and his diligent col-leagues have within few years ma- naged to establish contact with many customers and make a name for Blue Water in Central Jutland. As previ-ously mentioned, it is important for us to be close to the customers, to understand the customers’ individu-al needs and find the ideal solutions. We do not focus on systems - we fo-cus on our customers.

Blue Water takes over the Sea and Airfreight Activities of Otto Hansen & Co A/S, Vejle

In our experience, it is a serious company, giving quality and ser-vice pride of place. This is very similar to the way we work, and we are confident that we can carry on the activities to the satisfaction of both customers and staff. We have decided to divide the sea and air activities. In future, the air-freight staff will be based at Blue Water Billund, and the sea freight staff have moved in with Blue Water Aarhus and are already inte-grated in the existing departments there.

A reception was held by Smyril Blue Water on 24.6 in connection with the appointment of our new General Manager in Torshavn and the inauguration of the new office extension. Our new General Manager, John Frandsen, is, however, not new at all. He is 56 years old and former-ly employed with Smyril Line and Smyril Blue Water since 1999.

On 22.5. a reception party was held at Blue Water Ilulissat to mark the opening of this new office. We are aware that it was about a year af-ter the actual opening, but the op-portunity occurred as Ole Ulriksen and René Jørgensen/Blue Water Aalborg and Nana Olsen/Blue Wa-ter Nuuk had planned a visit to Ilu-lissat. According to Ole Ulriksen, the first birthday is a historically

Blue Water Ilulissat has in co-operation with Royal Greenland arranged that the old local Aasiaat bus will end its days in Denmark After many years of faithful service in Aasiaat, the bus was transferred to Ilulissat to pick up workers for Royal Greenland. In future, it will be used in a good cause in a Danish after-school care.

Smyril Blue Water operates a fleet of 150 trailers on the service be-tween the Faroes/Iceland and the Continent. To meet the ever in-creasing demands for trailer design and standards, Smyril Blue Water has entered into an agreement for the renewal of all reefer trailers in the existing fleet. The trailers are being manufactured to withstand the rough conditions on the North Atlantic. In order to meet all ve-terinary standards on the Faroes, an internal groove and reservoir for the collection of ”fish” water are fitted. Further to this, all trailers will be equipped with a first-grade

In keeping with tradition, Blue Water was strongly represented at this year’s fisheries exhibition in Brussels - by people from our of-fices involved in transport for the fishing industry; Padborg, Esbjerg, Hirtshals, Torshavn, Seydisfjordur and Brest.Customers were looked after and contacts maintained, and it was a pleasure to show the Blue Water flag during the successful exhibi-tion. For our exhibition department it was also a great success, as they arranged transport of 26 loads to and from the exhibition. All cus-tomers were happy with the co- operation and we are already looking forward to next year’s exhibition.

Reception at Torshavn

Many clients, colleagues, family and friends of the ”family” seized the opportunity to call in and see our new fine facilities. The exten-sion was badly needed and has gi-ven us twice as much space as well as a large canteen and changing and shower facilities, explains Bent Rasmussen.

Delivery of the new trailers will take place this autumn. In the middle of May, 13 new cur-tain siders were delivered to Smyril Blue Water. Together with the 30 trailers that were delivered in 2007, these trailers make up our dry cargo fleet. ”Quality transport is an extremely important factor to our clients, and with this new investment we are pleased to be able to fulfil their expectations and demands”, says Bent Rasmussen, Managing Direc-tor of Smyril Blue Water.

In order to give our customers an even better service, Smyril Blue Water has in co-operation with Smyril Line chartered the RO/RO vessel ”Hansa-land” from May to September. The vessel can carry 90 units, and we offer 2 weekly freight departures between the Faroes and Denmark v.v.

Every year, the town of Brest and the local Chamber of Commerce seize the opportunity to pay an of-ficial call to a chosen port abroad - to build contacts in the country concerned - on board the famous French navy school ship ”Jeanne D’Arc”. Since 1997, Airchem Consumab-les - supplier of aircraft paints, varnishes etc. to many Middle East and Central Asia-based airlines - has been using the services of Blue Water Amsterdam.Blue Water Amsterdam has become a hub for Airchem Consumables and consequently we receive large amounts of dangerous goods, which need to be stored, repacked and then delivered to the airlines or refor-warded by road or sea. Our professional body, Danske Spe-ditører (Danish Forwarders’ Associa-tion) has for many years offered an education based on modules. After completion of four modules, the stu-dent is entitled to call him/herself Ba-chelor of Forwarding. Many of our forwarders have studied individual modules, and we are proud of being the Danish forwarding company with the highest number of Bachelors. The education comprises subjects such as forwarding economics, forwarding law, sales & service and a road transport, sea freight or air freight module. The last-mentioned modules are fully up to the standard of the internationally

As for Blue Water, the number of par-ticipants in Vestkystløbet 2008 (West Coast Race) set a record with 126 runners. On 8.6., the temperature in Denmark was high and so was the number of spectators. Lots of peo-ple had a great time with their col-leagues and friends, eating grilled sausages etc. This annual event has almost become a traditional festival for many Esbjerg companies.

There were plenty of supporters that is for sure.......From Blue Water Esbjerg alone, 5 busses (3 with clients and 2 with staff) came to cheer on their local heroes, EFB (Esbjerg Football Club) in their second attempt, within recent years, to win the cup at Parken (Copenhagen Stadium). Unfortunately they did not suc-

Moreover, we were extremely sa-tisfied with the goal scorer of both EFB goals, Søren Rieks, whose fa-ther is a forwarder in our domestic department in Esbjerg.

According to the rules, they cannot go home for at least 3 years, and one day’s walk as a minimum should end the tour. Ulrich Schäfer is a skilled bricklayer who has been on the roads for almost 4 years and vis-ited as far-away places as South Africa and Namibia. He is now staying in Ribe for a short period, and being interested in terrazzo, he had heard about our impres-sive floor. The 2004 floor award has indeed not passed unnoticed in certain circles!

Saturday 17.5., 60 sea and airfreight colleagues from our Danish offices met for a workshop in Esbjerg. The purpose of the meeting was to have a broad presentation of all our products and services - and naturally a welcome opporutnity of social gathering.

10 YearsOn 7.9.1998, Steve Earp joined Blue Water Manchester as a trai-nee, straight from school. Ten years have gone by and Steve is still with us, no longer a trainee but the king-pin of our Swedish export service amongst various other duties. It feels like only ten minutes since he joined us a a shy young man.Steve is now an old married man and appears to spend much of his spare time rebuilding his house with the help/advice of his wife, Claire. We hereby congratulate Steve on his 10th jubilee. ”Always in the mood for a party” must definitely be Heidi’s philoso-phy. Heidi is and has always been one of the driving forces behind parties and social events at our Kolding office. She is always ready to lend a hand and get the party go-ing. Heidi does, however, possess the ability to distinguish between work and pleasure and is always concentrating 100% on performing the imposed duties in accordance with the existing strategy and mo-rale of the company. She originally started doing invoicing in our Be-nelux department and successively moved to the reception and became responsible for the administrative matters of the office. Today Heidi is head of the administration depart-ment at our Kolding office - includ-ing reception, sales secretariat and accounts.

53-year-old Michael ”Forever Young” Marker of the Esbjerg Terminal will be celebrating his 10th jubilee on 1.10. Over the years, Michael has primarily been involved in the MI Denmark ac-tivities, for which Blue Water is responsible for the physical hand-ling in connection with the mix-ing and pumping of chemicals and drilling fluid to offshore clients. Michael was already familiar with these kinds of activities from his 20 years’ employment with Hallibur-ton. According to his colleagues, Michael’s negative point is his abi-lity to win the go-cart race every time the boys go out - but otherwise he is popular and easy to get on with. In private life, Michael has no doubt met his sole mate, Annette, who shares his interests for motor bikes and fashion wear.

Sanne Andersen will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Wa-

Jubileester Kolding on 1.10. At the turn of the millennium, Sanne was, as for-warder in the Benelux import de-partment, from the start influential with her straightforward manner. When a decision was made, it was put into practice immediately and on we went to the next job. After two child births, Sanne has found a new position for herself at the of-fice as central figure in all efficien-cy promoting and implementation processes. As head of the strategy group in Kolding, member of the nationwide staff network, member of the trainee mentor group and last but not least the newly imple-mented superuser education, Sanne keeps her finger on the pulse in the widespread Blue Water network.

Kirsten Skjødt started with Blue Water Aarhus on 1.10.1998. Kir-sten has been part of the team almost from the very start at Vi-engevej in Risskov (a suburb of Aarhus), where she was responsib-le for all accounting. Before she joined Blue Water, Kirsten worked as an accountant at company Al-bert Nielsen. She is very popular with her colleagues and is charac-terized as a quiet and steady person and always very helpful. Kirsten was a single mother for her two children, Louise and Nicolai, until she met Kent and suddenly had a family consisting of 8 members. In her spare time, Kirsten takes les-sons in flower arranging, and every summer the family goes to Turkey for their holiday.

3 girls from our accounts depart-ment in Esbjerg will be celebra-ting their 10th jubilees this autumn: Birgitte Grønning Laursen and Su-sanne K. Hansen on 1.9. and Per-nille Vistisen Skærlund on 19.10. They all applied for the same job - and they all ended up getting a job, and moreover they were all born the same year and knew each other - a strange coincidence.

Birgitte started with the gigantic job of entering all BWS DK supplier invoices, a job which is now done by the individual offices. Today Birgitte is also taking care of part of the Esbjerg accounting functions and sees to it that the ”boys” of our agency department is up to date with the accounting part in relation to the transport.Birgitte is married to Jørgen and has two teenage children, Louise and Jesper. She is the captain of the family and has always many irons

in the fire.

Susanne’s field of activities has always included overheads and re-sponsibility for the administrative part of the telephony, fixed-line network, mobile and staff broad-band network as well as tax. In 2006 she was appointed manager of the accounts payable department with a staff of 7. Susanne lives together with Jan and has a son named Thomas. She is always cheerful, but also very ho- nourable - the rules must be obeyed.

Pernille is accurate with everything - including her job and her front garden, which is cultivated even in the winter. Pernille is on maternity leave until January with her second child Frederik. The family also con-sists of big sister, Julie, and daddy Jan. Today Pernille’s responsibili-ties include all Danish BWS suppli-ers, statements of account, VAT and repayment of VAT from abroad.

On 1.10, two members of our ware-house team in Baku will be cele-brating their 10th jubilees - Sakhib Isayev and Nasim Gasanov. Sakhib is a fork-lift driver and a very faithful and disciplined team worker. He loves football and his family - wife and a son, 20 years old, who has successfully returned from the Ranks of the Azerbaijan Army, and a daughter, a 13-year-old schoolgirl.Nazim is a packer and the proactive leader of the packers’ team. He is technically well-educated, accurate and disciplined and takes great in-terest in computers and technical novelties. Nazim has a wife and two children - a son and a daughter who both go to school Svetlana Nikolayeva joined our Baku team as secretary and recep-tionist on 5.10.1998. In 2000, she was promoted to coordinator of the airfreight department, playing an important part in connection with both import and export. Svetlana is in particular good at relocating personal effects and highly recom-mended by expats and other cli-ents.Svetlana is a very open and cheer-ful girl who lives with her mother, her son, Erin, and her beloved dog, Lucia. She loves animals, reading books and hiking.

Arnbjørn Madsen will be cele-brating his 10th anniversary with

Smyril Blue Water in Tórshavn on 1.10. Arnbjørn originally served his apprenticeship in a bank, but is to-day attending to our import clients. He is married to Maiken, with whom he has 2 sons and a daughter. We know that Arnbjørn has at least 2 other passions, which nobody in the whole world can change. The first one is the Liberal Party on the Faroe Islands and Faroese self-rule - and he is always ready for a litt- le quick discussion regarding this issue. The other one is Manchester United - and every time they win, everybody at the office will know for sure - so Arnbjørn has been very satisfied for the last year or so.

Back in October 1998 (13.10), Shahin Ismaylov became part of our Baku team as supervisor of the road transport department. Shahin is dealing with customs clearance of shipments arriving by trailer to Baku Customs Post. Starting as trainee, he has acquired a wide knowledge of import and export procedures and loading/unloading of project cargoes as well, not least due to his participation in project jobs, such as BP, Saipem, Sedco Forex etc. Shahin is very competent, knows a lot about customs rules, and is al-ways ready to share his knowledge with new employees. At the home front, he is a devoted father of two little girls and loves cars, angling and dancing.

Inam Abluch started with BlueWa-ter Baku on 28.10.1998 as freight forwarder in the road freight de-partment. Through his former job, involved in container traffic, he had been in close contact with Blue Water Dubai, and from 2001 until the end of 2004 he accepted the challenge of working for our of-fice in Dubai, arranging transports to Baku. Back in Baku again, Inam is busily involved in projects for CSC, Bos Shelf and Saipem. Inam is characterized as diligent and ac-curate and he is very popular and respected among his colleagues. His interests include tennis, chess and his young wife, Ramida, and two charming daughters.

Kenneth L. Kristensen will be ce-lebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water Esbjerg on 1.11. Ken-neth is an all-round forwarder who has taken an active share in deve-loping the road traffic to/from Por-tugal, Spain and Poland. Today he is looking after the daily traffic in

co-operation with his colleagues at our Warsaw, Esbjerg and Copenha-gen offices. At work, Kenneth is al-ways calm and has the administra-tive matters under control. When it comes to team handball, his temper might, however, rise a bit. This is still one of his main hobbies besides his two children, Malte and Oliver and his wife, Rikke.

10 years ago (4.11.1198), Larisa Cherkasova started as assistant in the road freight department of Blue Water Baku, involved in a project for Schlumberger, where she was responsible for invoicing and filing. Larisa is still an essential part of the project team, working closely to-gether with Inam. Larisa is married to Nikolay and has two grown-up children. Nana Olsen Heilmann will be ce-lebrating her 10 anniversary with Blue Water Nuuk on 1.12. Nana joined our airfreight department after many years with Grønlandsfly (the present Air Greenland) and has therefore obtained a large know-ledge of the Greenland freight sy-stems. She is today the airfreight department’s ”first lady” and a breath of fresh air to the office with her smile and laughter. Furthermore she contributes greatly to the social teamwork. Nana is married to Uja-rak, by whom she has two grown-up sons. The whole family enjoys sailing into the Bay of Nuuk to their cottage to catch trout, which they smoke, and shoot reindeer. Nana is an expert in Greenland cuisine, and choir singing and Dolly Parton also take up a great deal of her spare time.

20 YearsBack in December 1988 (1.12.88),

Jubileesat the opening of the Odense office, Jørgen B. Larsen was employed as terminal manager and will therefore soon be celebrating his 20 anniversa-ry. After 10 years in Odense, Jørgen and his wife, Kate, decided to move to the capital of Jutland, Aarhus, and he got a job at our Aarhus ter-minal. Jørgen is well-known among his colleagues for his great helpful-ness and Funen temperament, and the terminal would not be the same without him. Jørgen and Kate re-cently bought a flat under brighter skies in Turkey which they visit as often as possible.

The following 5 persons were all part of the original team which made up the Odense branch office as of 1.12.1988:

Ronald Hansen completed his ap-prenticeship in 1978 and has du-ring his entire career only worked for two employers, however, al-ways as part of the same team. At the age of 53, Ronald is no doubt the most well-known transport salesman in Funen, and through his large network and cheerfulness, he continuously creates new contacts and good client relations. Ronald is married to Dorthe and has four children, Christian, Trine, Andreas and Sarah. Ronald devotes his free time to his family, house and gar-den and playing golf.

Lea Madsen’s transport career started in 1973 when she was em-ployed as assistant in Inter-Ser- vice’s seed department. This special niche remained Lea’s speciality for many years, until she in 2007 was transferred to an administrative role in the continental department in Odense.Lea is married to Bent and the mother of two children. Tommy and Joan. When she is not at work,

Lea is taking care of her family, house and garden and not least her grandchildren.

Per Offersen received his training at a timber merchant, but decided to change line and became an appren-tice forwarder in 1981. Per has just turned 50, and has in his forward-ing career always been involved in sea freight and achieved great expertise in this field. Since 1988, Per has performed the function of manager of the sea freight depart-ment in Odense, but has just been transferred to key account for spe-cial cross trade and project clients. Per has a wife, Vibeke, and two children, Emil and Simone, to whom he devotes a large part of his free time. His other interests include golf, cycling, and handball.

From the start, Claus Bo Larsen made customs clearance his special field, which it still is. A long cus-toms career has resulted in a job as Blue Water’s overall customs manager. A job, he performs with great enthusiasm and specialist pride. Furthermore Claus Bo has a keen sense of humour, for which he is notorious and loved, not only inside Blue Water but wherever he goes. He is also a very active re-feree, the top referee in Denmark and also in the top of FIFA’s and UEFA’s international ranking list. This very interesting part-time job takes him to fashionable football arenas around the world. Claus Bo is married to Vibeke and the father of 3 children, Nicolai, Nicoline and Jonathan.

At the start of Blue Water Odense in 1988, Søren Nielsen was depart-ment manager, but has in more re-cent years performed the function of general manager of the office which today has a total staff of 70.

Søren started his career in 1978 as a trainee with shipbrokers Svane and Gjørding, Kolding, where chartering, stevedoring and ship’s clearance were the main activities. Then followed 2 years in the trans-port department of Lemvigh Müller & Munch, Copenhagen, before he joined Inter-Service, Odense. For many years, Søren performed the function of forwarder in the Italian department of Blue Water Odense in addition to being overall respon-sible for the company’s Italian ac-tivities and parallel with his mana-gerial position. Today Søren is still overall responsible for these activi-ties in addition to the company’s customs activities. Søren is married to Kirsten, who shares his interest for golf. Having played football for many years, he has now finally put his boots on the shelf.

Silver JubileeOn 1.9., Brigitte Jegou (also called Bibi) will celebrate her silver jubi-lee in Lorient, where the accounts department for our French offices is located. This was Blue Water’s first location in France and Bibi has been based here through all the years. She is responsible for all ac-counting which she controls with a very firm hand - almost as if it was her own money. Bibi’s liveliness and good mood are much appreciated by her colleagues just like her contribution to the suc-cess of various staff events. On the home front, she is the proud mother of two daughters, Maxime and Charlotte. Despite her scanty size, Bibi coaches her daughter Charlotte’s basketball team, and this year the rumours have it that they finished on the second place. Well done Bibi!

Last year, Blue Water Aalborg and NNR Global Logistics arranged the transport in connection with Dolly Parton’s Europe tour. It must have been a success as Dolly Par-ton Tours chose the same partners for their 2008 Europe Tour.First concert was in Stockholm, where Kenneth Skovbjerg Peder-sen of Blue Water Aalborg was assisted by our partner, Sky Trans-port, on both sea and airfreight.

Another ”Outstanding” Transport for Dolly Parton

In return for a well-performed job we were given a number of free tickets to the concerts in Stock-holm and Viborg. Kenneth Skov-bjerg Pedersen and Maria Heick/Blue Water Billund were both invited backstage. ”What a great experience to meet the grand little lady”, says the proud Dolly fan, Kenneth.

The Dolly Parton Tour team at- taches great importance to personal contact and service. Therefore we hope, with this year’s successful transport for Dolly Parton Tours, that it will result in other inquiries from the show business. We know for sure that Dolly Parton will re-commend us to others. Blue Water has a fine concept and network ready in case other possi-bilities within this transport niche

should appear on the scene.
