Miss Story’s Class newsletter August 21, 2009 Things to remember: Please initial your child’s assignment book each night. This helps establish a good connection between home and school. Every Friday is early release day. We will dismiss an hour earlier on those days. Make sure to send lunch money in an envelope with student and teacher name on front. Picture Day is Wednesday, August 26 th . I sent home a brown paper sack today so they can create a “ME” bag to bring back to school to share on Monday. Spelling: Words for the week: skate, blade, gain, safe, drag, aid, past, gray, drain, jail, shape, plant, hang, pray, pain, glass, shall, sale, steak, break Strategy: Remember that the short a sound is usually spelled a, followed by a consonant sound. When you hear the long a sound, think of the patterns a-consonant-e, ai and ay. Grammar focus: Capitalization You will find the grammar focus on the back of the weekly spelling words. Writing: We will talk about what good writers do, what good writing looks like, and we will start free writing.

Science:We will begin a unit on Rocks. We will study the rock cycle and 3 types of rocks: Metamorphic, Igneous, and Sedimentary.
