Principal’s Address

Dear Parents/Carers,

It is with great privilege I take on the role of Relieving Principal at Corowa South Public School for Term 1 2020 while Mrs Kissell is on leave. I am passionate about education and believe every student should be valued and cared for, in an innovative learning environment. I aim to prioritise every students’ learning needs to ensure they reach their full potential.

I have lived, studied and worked in the Riverina my entire life. For the last 12 years of my career I have worked in an executive role as Assistant Principal at Glenroy Public School and Thurgoona Public School. At both of these schools I have relieved as Principal for periods of time.

I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the Corowa South school community and teach your precious children. I look forward to meeting you over the coming weeks.

I have received a lovely welcome from staff, students and the school community – thank you. We have certainly hit the ground running with plenty of events to kick start the year. Our first being the Swimming Gala Day this Thursday for Year 2-6 students.

Please send your child in their sport uniform every Tuesday this term as Adam and Curtis from Skill Zone Cricket/Athletics will be working with all classes.

It has been a delight to welcome our new Kindergarten students this week. They have made a great start on their learning journey with Mrs McDonald.

Welcome back to a busy and exciting 2020!

Students have hit the ground running embracing our new classroom mascot Maliyan, the wedge-tailed eagle, soaring high and setting some personal goals for the year. Mrs Conibear and I have been working with students to create some impressive artworks that are now presented proudly in the classroom.

Friendly reminders:

Home Readers will be sent home daily for students to read and return the following day for rotation.

Homework will be sent home on Monday and due back on Friday allowing for the weekend to mark, ready for the following week.

Library is on Tuesday. Students are asked to have books in the classroom (yellow tub) by Tuesday so that books can be circulated, allowing for new books to be sent home and enjoyed. Thank you.

Mrs Hicks, Class Teacher

Welcome to a new year of learning together. A special welcome to all Kindergarten

students who are commencing their Primary education journey with us. What an

attentive group of learners! This week students are familiarising themselves with class

members, the room and it’s resources, as well as getting to know the staff.

Our class name, Yabi, is the Wiradjuri

word for a yabby. We have been

exploring images of yabbies and learning

about their habitat.

Reminders:

Thursday—Yr 2—6 Swimming Gala

Welcome back to 2020 school year! This year our class name Wibigang (pronounced wibigung) comes from the Wiradjuri language meaning Magpie. Having a family of magpies in our school, and being a close-knit small class group I thought it was the perfect name choice for our class this year. Our classroom has been redecorated in Hogwarts Harry Potter style. Students have been sorted into their Hogwarts houses and are making a wonderful start towards working cooperatively and collaboratively to earn house points. Please pop in for a visit to our room.

Homework commenced this week and includes reading for 15mins and recording daily in the provided Home Reading Journal. It is expected students get into the habit of reading and returning their Reading Journal for checking daily. All other Homework will be due at the end of the week (on Fridays).

This term our English text study will be Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. If you have a copy of this book at home we’d greatly appreciate borrowing it for the term so each student could have their own copy for our English lessons. We have read Chapters 1-3 as a class already and are keen to get started on our novel study. We require another 10 copies.

Looking forward to great things from all of the students this year!

The AGM of the P & C Association will be held on Tuesday 18th February 2020, commencing at 5.30pm in the library. Office bearers positions are all declared vacant. All welcome to attend.
