Matt’s Musings
Dear Church Family,
Excitement is building as Sunday approaches! We've been looking
for and praying about this day for a very long time and it's finally
here!!!
On Sunday morning at 9:15 AM, we will gather together in our gym
for a special "Celebration Breakfast" and time of fellowship (there
will be no Sunday School). All food will be provided so you don't
need to bring anything. Then, at 10:30 AM, we will gather in the
worship center for a time of exciting music, prayer, stories, Bible
reading, and a good ol' fashioned note-burning.
Then, on Sunday evening at 6 PM, I will give a State of the Church
Address. The purpose is to look back in celebration and gratitude
and then look forward in faith and hope.
I can't wait to see you in church on Sunday! It's going to be a great
day!
Love ya,
Pastor Matt

I recently read an article entitled, “Teenage screen addicts lose out on happiness”. It was a very interesting read and continues to agree with what many people deem to be one of the biggest social problems in the lives on today’s teens. WBC Student Ministry wants to see its students’ lives enriched in every area, including socially. It is much harder for teens to share the Gospel with others if their social lives are suffering. Smartphone and Social Media overload is literally causing teenage anxiety. This study found that playing computer games, using social media, texting and video chatting were all associated with less happiness. Adolescents who invested more time in non-screen activities such as playing sports, reading newspapers and face-to-face social interaction were significantly happier. The happiest teenagers were those who used digital media a little less than an hour a day. After a daily hour of screen time, levels of unhappiness rose steadily. The key to digital media use and happiness is limited use. Here are a few suggestions from the study and from my own personal opinion to help battle the technological beast: 1)Aim to spend no more than two hours a day on digital media, and try to increase the amount of time you spend seeing friends face-to-face and exercising – two activities reliably linked to greater happiness. 2)Don’t sleep with your cell phones, TVs or computers in your room. 3) Have a tech free zone in your home (i.e. The Dinner Table). 4) Don’t use tech past a certain time of night. Make plans to join us on Sunday, February 18th as we
celebrate what God has accomplished through the
Westside family with the recent payoff of the church
indebtedness. There will be no Sunday School that
morning as we gather together at 9:15 in the Christian
Activity Center (Gym) for a special “Celebration
Breakfast” and time of fellowship with one another. All
food will be provided. At 10:30 we will meet in the
auditorium (as a church family) for a special time of praise
and worship honoring God’s many years of faithfulness to
Westside. The service will culminate with special note-
burning ceremony. There will be no nursery or e worship
during this time.
