Thanks also to the small band of dads that came to help on the day. All the softfall is now placed around the playground area and only needs to be shovelled and raked to spread it evenly. If you have a spare few hours through the week and would like to help complete the job, please contact me at school. Head lice Mention head lice and most of us instantly develop an itch. You'll find these little critters at every school across Australia - and probably the world - at some point during the year. While head lice and nits, (the eggs of head lice) are certainly annoy- ing and persistent, they're not dangerous. Head lice and nits only live on human heads. They don't care if the hair is long or short, clean or dirty. Head lice are an un- avoidable fact of life for all school-aged kids. The best and cheapest way to remove them is with inexpensive conditioner and a nit comb. You will need to re-treat your child several times before all the eggs will be gone. When children are found to have head lice or nits in their hair at school we may not exclude them from school activities or routines. Parents are informed straight away and children in the same class will get a reminder letter that head lice have been found in the classroom. When this occurs could you please help to break the head lice cycle by checking and treating the head for head lice? If your child has head lice, several treatments over a week and constant checking must occur to en- sure all head lice and nits are eradicated. Even if you have treated the head lice it is still necessary to check the head and scalp daily, preferably in sunlight or bright lights inside. They are so easy to miss. Please be vigilant and do regular checks. It has been reported that some children who have had head lice have been teased, name called and isolated by their peers. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable as they are contrary to our school rules and values. For more information you can go to the link below or Google head lice and you will get a mountain of information and tips on treatment of head lice. Eradicating head lice can be a long and arduous task. Please persist with treatments and check your child’s hair daily. http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/wellbeing/health/removing-head-lice-and-nits Kids’ winter camps Bookings are now open for Kids’ Winter Camps run by the NSW Office of Communities (Sport and Recreation). National Simultaneous Storytime at Booral Public School

On Wednesday 23 May 2012 at 11:00am Booral PS students joined organisations from Broome to

Hobart, reading the picture book The Very Cranky Bear to more than 170,000 children across Australia.

Now in its twelfth successful year, National Simultaneous Storytime 2012 aims to celebrate and ac-

knowledge the vital work being done in libraries, schools and communities around Australia to develop

young people's literacy and numeracy skills.

The event was organised by the Australian Library and Information Association, to promote the value of

reading and literacy, the importance of Australia's book industry and the role of libraries.

The Very Cranky Bear is written by Nick Bland and published by Scholastic Australia. Students used the

interactive whiteboards to read the story in their classrooms.
