Newsletter: Term 3 Week 10 (15/9/15)
On Sunday our three DNPS T.O.M teams
participated in the Victorian State Final at La
Trobe University Bundoora (Just to point out: no other school in the state had representation in 3 primary divisions!!).
Each team was welcomed by a TOM
official in their lecture theatre and allotted a
room supervisor from one of the other schools
in attendance in their division. They were then
confined to a room for 3 hrs and 10 mins, where
they had to solve both a 3 hr and spontaneous
challenge. At the completion of the allocated
time, the students had an hour to have lunch and
relax (no practising or discussion of the
challenges was allowed). They then returned to
their lecture theatre for the commencement of
the 3hr challenge presentations.
After presentation of challenges the
DNPS teams made their way to Union Hall for
the award ceremony. While waiting for the
announcements the teams were entertained by a
very funny, Brian Nankervis (of ‘Rockwiz’ and
‘Hey, Hey Its Saturday’ fame).
All three teams should be incredibly
proud of their efforts. They were all very com-
petitive and in with a chance to win their divi-
sion, and in a sensational effort our DNPS Lang Lit team was awarded HONOURS!!. This is the
second time a DNPS team has achieved such an
outstanding result.
FROM THE SCHOOL ON A HILL
This newsletter brilliantly edited by the team of Rosie and Calypso.
I am truly proud and in awe of our children’s efforts. They were excellent ambassadors for
DNPS, demonstrating wonderful team skills, exceptional higher order thinking skills and
impressive acting abilities. You are superstars, one and all. I might make mention of one of the
judge’s comments, who in his 20 years of judging said he had never seen someone die, be buried
and bought back to life during a performance!! (Go Dan James!!)
I would like to thank the fabulous parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins
and friends who supported the teams’ journey to the State Final. Your efforts were greatly
appreciated. To the drivers, navigators, cabin supervisors, food and drink providers, life guards,
and entertainers my sincere thanks- it would have been impossible to organise without your
support. In addition, many thanks to Cheryl and Sarah, who willingly took on the role of room
supervisors during the 3hr Challenges.

Above: Imogen Gray and Scout McKenzie give
spelling the thumbs up, as fellow Spelling Bee
champs, Sophie Bashford and Ryan Penney, look
on.
The North contingent of Spelling Bee
champions acquitted themselves admirably at
the Regional Title held in Corowa last
Thursday.
Best placed of our foursome was Imogen, who
made the final 7, and finished 5th after the
word, ‘etiquette’ proved a little troublesome.
Her fellow team-mates gave their all in typical
North fashion, but found the going tough.
Well done to the fantastic-four, and thanks to
Jenny Griffin for her assistance with
transport.
THIS WEEK’S WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY The weekly assembly will begin at 2:30pm on
Friday, and will be held in the school hall.
Dear Parents/Carers,
On Production night an audience member had her
pink hand-bag (which was on the floor by her
feet) broken into. One item was tampered with (a
gift in purple wrapping) and 2 blue envelopes
were torn open and money taken ($10 from one
and $5 from the other).
From the description given by the owner, this
does sound like the possible actions of a carpet
crawler, perhaps a toddler.
If you do know anything about this incident,
please contact myself at the school.

Email– PRAISE FROM DAMIEN JOHNSON-Director-South West Music
Hi Chris
Just a quick note to say congratulations on a fantastic night for North School, in your
production of Spicks and Specks.
It was great to see music taking such a leading role in your production, and is testament to your
commitment of giving your students genuine musical opportunities.
Well done!
There are so many great people to thank for their wonderful contribution to the production. Personally
I would like to thank the staff, parents/carers, P&C, Peter Taylor and the Deni RSL, raffle prize donors
and extraordinary musicians’ Shane McGrath, Brett Allitt and Zac McCulloch, for their marvellous
efforts.
On the student side of things, I am enormously proud of the fine character, good humour and
creativity shown by our kids. For some, such as Multi-Cultural Speakers, TOM and debating teams, I am
simply astonished at their capacity to take so much on board. Champions!
As always, when it comes to the final countdown, there are a few stand-outs that are worthy of the
highest praise:
Adrian Mulham, who was absolutely outstanding as the chief of audio on the night, and spent a lot
of hours behind the scenes, cutting and splicing music to his hearts content. You couldn’t ask for a
better or more organised, partner in crime. Legend!
Duncan Hughes, who kept on coming back for re-shoot after re-shoot, after the script writer, kept
changing his lines. Thanks, wise one!
The Munchkin Players, who stayed behind after school to have a bit of fun in front of the
greenscreen. Nice one!
Thank-Yous from each class teacher/s are included below!
5/6S and 4/5HB
From Mrs Hunter and Miss Smith Shane McGrath and Brett Allitt for their
expertise, teaching of songs and commitment to
the production.
Melissa, Cheryl and Christie for running around
organizing props, working with the actors and for
creative talents in making props.
Adrian for his technical expertise in cutting the
audio and running the audio on the night.
Granny Allitt for behind the scenes help.
Miss Wing for playing in two items and Miss
Lieschke for her uke expertise.
Mr Soding for transporting the props.
Abbey Lawson for lending us her onesie for our
kangaroo.
Mathoura PS for the lend of buzzers.
From the Students (via a signed card)
Thanks to Mr Hogan for the countless hours spent
filming, editing and displaying the amazing videos
that made the production exemplary. Your time
and effort was greatly appreciated.
KCH From the kinders came this message and a packet
of monte carlos (the health food of a nation):
‘Hoges-We think you did an awesome job on all the
videos at the production.’
From Mrs Chadderton and Mrs Hanns A huge thank you to our wonderful teacher's aides
who helped ensure our costumes and props were
bright and cheerful on the night! Christie Gavel
helped with a lot of planning in the early stages and
offered some very creative ideas for our act.
Melissa Hamilton, Cheryl McMillan and teacher
Jessica Harris did a wonderful job painting our
props - thank you! Thanks also to Mr Hanns for
cutting and transporting our MDF.
Cheryl McMillan spent much of her own time dyeing
our costumes yellow, and making vegemite lid hats.
She also worked hard behind the scenes on the
night, tying up costumes, painting faces and
organising the children back stage. Thanks Cheryl!
Finally, a big thank you to the three students from
4/5HB who assisted with holding props on the stage
- Lachie Brill, Elena Mulham and Jaye Charlton.
3/4H
From Mr Hanns I would like to thank the Ute Muster for the
use of the wooden utes and other items, as
well as Christie, Cheryl and Melissa who
assisted with the creation of props etc.
Also thanks to Christie and Mr Hogan for
helping out with the script.
A Few Observations from Miss Wing Well done to Mr Hogan for the countless hours
putting the DVD together, and then getting all
the technical stuff "just right" for the night.
You did a brilliant job.
Thanks must also go to Christie, Cheryl and
Melissa for their support of every class-
whether this was in making props and
costumes, helping kids learn their lines, or
helping to type up various scripts.
Thanks to Zac McCulloch for playing the
didgeridoo on the night. Zac was kind enough
to offer his services, but humble enough not to
stand in the spotlight.
A huge thank-you to Brett Allitt and Shane
McGrath for all they did with the musicians.
Brett did a great job getting the band going
with the various songs for Spicks and Specks,
and Shane was outstanding on the night. He
was a great role model for the kids, and it was
a great opportunity for the kids to be able to
say that they have played with Shane McGrath.
It was like being at a master class for music
for these kids.
Well done to Ann Allitt for her work back
stage, and for Sue Nisbet for running the
DVD, and to the teachers for their wonderful
efforts.
Also a huge thank you to Adrian Mulham, for
taking care of playing the CDs all night. A
great back stage crew is as important as great
performers!
A special "thank you" to the "Ukuladies", and
their "Uke Meister"- Lauren. The kids worked
as a team, and all grew in their musical ability,
and in their team work and support for each
other, and everyone else on stage.
1/2R
From Mrs Rumble Could I please thank Claire Wing for her help
with my class item for our Production. She
would come and help with choreography and
with brainstorming ideas.
Cheryl helped to round up props for us and she
and Melissa made some of our props.
Everyone in our class was so good. They were
very flexible in that if they had to change
partners due to someone being away they did it
without a fuss and didn't complain.
Also I would like to mention the hard work Mr
Hogan did with all the DVDs. I especially liked
the Staff act. We rocked!
