Principal’s Report Welcome to Term 3
I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing mid-year break, ready for another busy
term ahead at Willy North.
We have our Camping programs unfolding this term for all students in Years 3 - 6
as well as Reading & Writing Together is Magic in week 6 as part of Book Week.
Please note our final Staff Training day for the year is planned for Monday 14th
August, whereby students do not attend school.
Holiday Works
We’ve had a number of upgrades undertaken over the holidays, as we continue to
improve our wonderful facilities for our students.
The most exciting of these works has been the
refurbishment of our ‘Health Hub’, thanks to the
terrific money raised at this year’s Fete. New vinyl
was laid in the Health Hub, in addition to a
wonderful feature wall that was expertly installed
by one of our very talented parents – Jolyon
McDonald. Custom built furniture was also fitted
into the hub, with the final touches to be finished
over the next week. I would like to extend a big
thank you to Olivia Koster (School Nurse) and
Belinda Gill (Communications Officer) for their
ongoing work in both the design and upgrade of
this area. How lucky our students are to be cared
for so well in such a vibrant purpose built space.
In addition to the works in the Health Hub, new
vinyl flooring was also installed in the toilets of the
Junior Learning Centre as well as some plumbing
upgrades in this area.
An additional 17 Wireless Access Points (WAPS) were installed across the school.
This now ensures that every classroom has its own WAP, thereby guaranteeing
our students have strong internet connectivity to support their learning.
In support of ongoing works across the school we are very grateful to the vast
majority of payments who have paid the following voluntary charges this year:
Health Hub $50, Computer Technical Support $45 and Grounds Maintenance $30.
If you have not yet made these payments, and would now like to now do so,
please drop by the office or utilise your BPay code. We appreciate the wonderful

Parent/Teacher/Student (P/T/S) Conferences
As a follow up to the Mid-Year student reports, P/T/S Conferences are planned for
Monday 31st July and Wednesday 2nd August from 3.00pm – 7.00pm. These Mid-
Year Conferences are a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of each
student during Terms 1 and 2, as well as being a valuable opportunity to consider the
Learning Goals ahead for each students over the remainder of 2017.
Bookings for P/T/S conferences are completed on line via your Compass login and
will be open for booking from next Monday 24th July. All details regarding the booking
of P/T/S Conferences is outlined in the flyer in this Newsletter.
Assembly Changes
As explained last term, from next week onwards we will trial a different format for our assemblies for the remainder
of the year. We have attached the assembly plan again in this week’s Newsletter for your reference.
In facilitating Junior and Senior assemblies, we are aiming to ensure a higher level of student input into our
assembly format, with classes rostered to present/perform different aspects of their learning.
We have a little hiccup next week with the Year 2 students being on an excursion for the first junior assembly, so
we will reschedule Year 2M for their ‘performance’ at a later assembly date.
We look forward to your feedback as we undertake this trial over the coming months.
Years 5 & 6 Howqua Camp
Approximately 190 Year 5 and 6 students are eagerly anticipating
their annual camping experience at Howqua next week. Whilst
the weather will be cold, we have our fingers crossed for some
clear days that will enable our students to undertake all of the
outdoor activities in the stunning country setting of Howqua.
This camping experience will be quite a special one this year as it
will be the last time that the Year 5 and 6 students attend camp
together. From 2018 onwards, the Howqua camp will be solely for
the Year 5 cohort and Year 6 will attend the Canberra Tour each
year.
In anticipation of another highly successful camping program, I would like to sincerely thank the Year 5 and 6
teachers for their exhaustive planning of the camp in recent months, with a special mention to Kate Richards,
Lauren McGill, Patrick Kelly and Dale Evans for coordinating much of this planning.
The Parent Hub is Open for the Winter!
As you may know, in 2016, WNPS opened a special ‘Hub’ especially for parents to come together on these chilly mornings.
The Hub initiative was developed to provide an informal meeting place for parents to come together in a safe and welcoming space. The focus of the initiative is to:
Build positive connections between children, the family and the school; and
Nurture a sense of belonging for all.
The Hub has moved from its previous location and can now be found in Room 25, which is the portable classroom near the Gym. The Hub will be open from 8.45am until 10.00am each Friday (beginning on Friday 28th July) throughout Term 3 and parents and their children are welcome to come in for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat! Toys and books are provided to keep the little ones entertained! We hope to see you there.
Congratulations Ashleigh & Joel Paton
We were very excited to hear last week that one of our dearly loved teachers on
maternity leave, Ashleigh Paton, has given birth to a beautiful baby boy named Will.
Both mum and baby are doing extremely well and we are all looking forward to a visit
in the coming weeks. On behalf of the school community we congratulate Ashleigh
and Joel on the safe arrival of baby Will.
Fete Coordinator for 2019 – Where Are You?
We are still on the hunt for the next Willy North Fete Coordinator! Shane Graham has done a terrific job in this role
over the last four years, however he is ready to pass on the baton and the well-oiled formula to a new Coordinator/
s (if it was to possibly be a shared role).
We are at a fairly critical stage with this role, to ensure a seamless transition for the next Fete. If you have been
contemplating this opportunity as a way of further supporting the school, I would value the opportunity to discuss
this with you. It would certainly be a shame if we were unable to proceed with this event in the future!
Shed Clean Up
With our Fete well behind us now, we are now on a mission to clean up
the school’s main storage shed (in time for the next Fete). Whilst on
this matter, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Leanne and
Reece Sutton for their amazing work in overseeing the White Elephant
stall again this year at the Fete!
The photo below is of a well-crafted map/poster cabinet measuring approx. 125cm wide, 90cm deep and about 95cm in height that is up for sale. If you can see this in your house, office or shed, please feel free to make us an offer at [email protected].
Enjoy the rest of the week,

Student Safety
Please take the time to regularly remind your child/ren about safety, especially when going to and from school. Here are the important points to mention:
Do not to talk to strangers and never accept a ride from a stranger, or accept lollies or gifts from a stranger.
Immediately report any issue or problem you may have when going to or from school, to your mum and dad, or to your teacher, the Principal, Assistant Principal or office staff.
Always get permission from mum or dad before going to play with a friend after school and always let mum and dad know where you will be and what time you will be home.
We advise that, wherever possible, children should travel to or from school with an adult or with their friends, rather than travel alone.
Early Release
All children collected from school before 3.30pm must be signed out at the Office. Parents will be handed an ‘Early Release Pass’ to hand to the supervising teacher. If a child is signed out at Recess or Lunch time, the Office staff will call the child to the Office and then ensure the Early Release Pass is given to the supervising teacher.
Bikes & Scooters Many children ride bikes and scooters to school each day. All bikes and scooters must be locked up in either the Bike or Scooter Enclosure to prevent theft. Please ensure your child has a chain and a lock.
All children who ride a bike or scooter must wear a helmet which is a requirement by the Government. The school regularly reminds all children about wearing helmets for their safety.
All bikes, scooters, skateboards, ribstic and helmets must be labelled, with your child’s name and class. Children are reminded they must walk their bike, scooter, skateboard or ribstic to and from the school gates. No bikes are to be brought through the school buildings and we request, where possible, that scooters are also not walked through the building.
Working With Children Cards Cardholders who are required to renew their WWCC will no longer need to go to Australia Post to lodge a paper form and present their current card. Cardholders will go to the WWCC website to complete their renewal application online and, if applying for an Employee Check, pay the fee using a credit card when using the online renewal process, cardholders will be notified by SMS, letter or email 28 days before their WWCC is due to expire. It is important for cardholders to keep their contact details up to date so that they receive this important reminder.
After receiving a notification, individuals continuing to do child-related work should go to MyCheck on the WWCC website and apply to renew their check. Cardholders will be asked to register with MyCheck if they have not already done so. Once logged in to MyCheck, cardholders will be prompted to confirm or update their personal contact and work details, complete the online form and, if applying for an Employee Check, pay the non-refundable $102.70 fee. More information: an FAQ guide to online renewals will be
available in 'Publications' under 'Resources' on the WWC website,
or contact the Customer Support Line on 1300 652 879 8.30am –
5.00pm weekdays except public holidays.

nd August , 2017
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Parent/Teacher/Student (P/T/S) conferences will be held for all Foundation to Year 6 classes on Monday 31st July and Wednesday 2nd August.
The focus of the mid-year conference is for your child/ren to share their work and discuss how they are going with achieving their ‘Learning Goals’. Teachers will discuss the learning and progress of your child and strategies, to either extend their learning, or provide additional support. You may also wish to seek clarification on any aspects of the mid-year written report at this conference.
Using Compass you can book your Parent/Teacher/Student conference online from 9.00am on Monday 24th July through to Friday 28th July.
1. Click the ‘Action for’ button beside the student you wish to make bookings for and click ‘Book Parent Teacher Interviews’.
2. A list of parent-teacher interview times will be displayed along with their booking status. Click on the relevant time.
3. Your booking sheet will be displayed and will show all available booking times. Click on a time in the grid to display teachers available for booking the selected time.
Please remember, that once a time has been booked, the options for parents are reduced, so, be prompt to select your time. If all conference times are booked, please contact your child’s teacher to make an alternative time.
If your appointment is between 3.00pm and 3.30pm please collect your child from the gym.
The P/T/S Conference times are as follows:
Monday 31st July 3.00pm to 7.00pm – All classes (5.00pm to 5.30pm staff break)
4.00pm to 7.00pm – Specialist Teachers (5.00pm to 5.30 staff break)

P/T/S conferences are highly effective in enhancing children’s motivation and understanding of their learning. The length of each P/T/S conference is “up to 15 minutes”.
Please be punctual to your child’s PTS conference and please keep to the allocated time so not to impact on other families.
Prior to the conferences, teachers and children will spend time discussing how to take part in a P/T/S conference. We believe all parents and children will find the conferences very informative and rewarding.
The Foundation, Year 1 & Year 2 children will talk about their ‘Goals’ and achievements, as well as articulating their learning.
The Year 3 to 6 children will talk about their ‘Learning Goals’ and what they were aiming to achieve in the first half of the year, and how they progressed towards achieving their goals.
If a parent or teacher requires time for a ‘one-on-one’ discussion, this can be factored in towards the end of the conference, or an alternative time/date can be arranged.

in the Woolworths Earn and
Learn program. Through this
program we will be able to get
new educational resources for our school.
