SENIOR EXECUTIVE REPORT“Wellbeing is not a competition. Schools need to realise that success is not about finding some way to stand out from the crowd - above the others. True success is about finding a way into the crowd."

Dr Helen Street.

CORE VALUESOur core values Teamwork, Opportunity, Respect, Excellence and Safety are evident throughout our school. From the teaching and learning of curriculum in our classrooms, to the many and varied Wellbeing programs, sporting opportunities and community involvement our students partake in. Tweed River High School students are well prepared to take their place in society (the crowd) and be the best version of themselves. We are very proud of our school, students and staff.

THANK YOU TO STAFF AND STUDENTSCongratulations and thankyou to our students and staff who continually go above and beyond all expectations with their leadership, hard work and dedication.

Our SRC students and Mrs Sinclair have rallied behind the Holland family in their time of need as Mr Holland awaits further medical treatment in hospital. The very successful Purple Day was held to raise much needed funds to help support the Holland family. Staff and students wore a purple accessory and enjoyed the delights that were available at the bake sale.

The SRC have been helping with many initiatives across the school. The next major initiative is Shave for a Cure which will be held next Friday March 15. Funds raised will be going to support cancer research. Please ensure you support this important cause. SRC leaders will then be hosting the Year 7 Welcome Disco on Monday March 18 at 6pm. Their leadership and community spirit is outstanding and greatly valued. Thank you Mrs Sinclair for your work with these students.

The Peer Support Program continues to support our new Year 7 students in their transition to High School. It is very rewarding to see the leaders share their experience with the younger students and also take up other leadership opportunities throughout the school. Peer Support leaders are also supporting and leading initiatives across the school and will be also be at the Welcome to Year 7 Disco. Peer Support leaders play an integral role in our school and are also greatly valued. Thank you to Mrs Mackney and Ms Cowan for their work with these students.

The Green Team made a great contribution to the recent Clean Up Australia Day. The comments made by community members and staff about the exemplary behaviour and application of our students were outstanding. Well done to the staff and students who were involved in this tremendous initiative. Thank you Mr Betts, Mr Hayward, Mr Williams and Mrs Monniot – Kerr for your continued support of this team.

The Rock Education group has been formed to develop a comprehensive respect and resilience program while supporting literacy and numeracy and curriculum outcomes for a targeted group of our Year 8 boys. Thank you to Mr Ross, Mr Mason, Mr Steele and Mr Gray for your continued support of our young men.

Best Start and other diagnostic tests have been completed for our Year 7 students. Class changes will be made on Monday as per the letter that went home earlier in the week. The new classes will enable staff to target the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy to better support our students. Our staff have been and continue to be engaged in professional learning related to Best Start. Thank you to all of the Year 7 and 8 teachers who are involved in this professional learning and to Ms Smith, Mr Topper and Ms Moss who have actively lead this initiative across the school.

Thank you to Ms Florence, Mrs Mackney and Ms Conroy for supporting our female student leaders on International Womens Day as they participate in celebratory breakfasts recognising the contributions our young women make to our school community and beyond.

BEYOND THE BRONCOS GIRLS ACADEMYBeyond the Broncos Girls Academy Season Launch was held on Monday 25 February at TRHS. Ambassadors Taneisha Atkinson, Scott Prince and Justin Hodges were gracious and genuine in delivering some important messages to our young girls in how to deal with any negativity that is present around them and to rise above it. Justin in particular touched on bullying and that it is Not OK . He spoke about the harm that it does and that we need to put a stop to it once and for all!

Our young women need to empower one another.

The Girls Academy Values the vital role that young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women play in influencing our next generation by providing culturally based support in schools for these future leaders.

The features of this program include:

• In school mentoring• Student Support Staff and Tutors in schools• Homework Centre• Semester Challenges• Rewards for 90% and above attendance, good behaviour and effort• Group Workshop every term• Support in completing Year 12• Career Pathways• Leadership Camps• Exclusive access to Broncos staff, players and events

It’s Programs like these that can change lives!

Lisa McDade, Beyond the Broncos Girls Academy Co-ordinator.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY FRIDAY 1 MARCH

On Friday, Mr Betts, Mr Hayward, Mr Williams, myself and 27 of our wonderful students went to Jack Evans Harbour for a day of environmental action. One group scuba-dived and cleaned the harbour whilst the other took care of the foreshore. The dives were sponsored by dive instructor extraordinaire Pete Comerford and his wife (Tweed Sea Sports) and we are so grateful for their generosity and support. Our students were met and congratulated by Mr Geoff Provest (Member for Tweed) and our school leaders Jazmine Cooke and Lachlan Taylor were interviewed by 7 News. It was a great day for the environment as our students put gloves on and picked up every bit of plastic and unwanted waste they could find. We would also like to thank Twin Towns for providing us with food and drinks for lunch. Well done Green Team! A very proud Mrs Monniot-Kerr : )

Students participating on the day were: Layla McShane, Tahlia Hatton, Emily Bradford, Emma Castle, Alicia Osborne, Bronx Hargraves, Abigail Foster, Ina Kelly, Sonny Brown, Stephanie Hatton, Piper Goward, Amy Jones, Paige Radley, Brodie King, Hugh Harris, Chloe Berry, Kayla Harris, Keira Taylor, Holly Westmorland, Shiana Lewis, Hippolyte Lanchou, Kodie Smith, Kenzie Sinclair, Mya Douglas, Shae Howarth, Jazmine Cooke, Lachlan Taylor.
