SENIOR EXECUTIVE REPORTFarewell Year 12I would like to say a final farewell to our Year 12 Students. Their HSC examination period will be completed next week and their formal will be held at Summergrove Estate, Carool, on Thursday evening. Summergrove will be a lovely location to send our students off following their 6 years at Tweed River.

I am extremely proud of the manner in which our year 12 students have navigated the difficulties of their HSC year. Their feedback regarding the examination papers has been mostly positive and their HSC results will be released on Friday 18 December

Some of our students have already begun their working life, commencing apprenticeships and traineeships, while many others have applied for early entry to partner Universities. Others have made University applications through the UAC process, which will commence following the release of ATARS. I will be very curious to watch these wonderful young men and women go out into the world and make it their own. They have displayed grit and determination in completing their schooling under the constantly changing complexities resulting from the global pandemic and I have great confidence in their capacity to tackle the challenges that life will throw at them.

Tweed River High School alumni have a long history of outstanding achievement and our current cohort certainly have great potential across a wide range of areas. However, more importantly, these young men and women exhibit the values that will support a positive local and global community. They have displayed the school’s core values of excellence, opportunity, safety, teamwork and respect, values that will support them as they navigate their lives.

I look forward to celebrating the end of their examinations and the start of their post school life on Thursday at the formal.

Safety in the school carpark.Unfortunately, we have a small number of parents who have been risking the safety of their children and others by using the school car park as a drop off facility. Parents are not allowed to access the school carpark unless they are attending a meeting or purchasing items from the uniform shop, in which case please park in the allocated visitor spaces. For safety reasons, students are not allowed in the carpark.

Over the course of this term a staff member’s car has been damaged when they had to take evasive action to avoid a collision with a parent exiting the car park at high speed. Several staff members have been abused when they have asked parents not to use the carpark and this week a teacher was almost hit on the pedestrian crossing after a parent drove off in a dangerous and erratic manner after being asked not to use the carpark by another staff member.

If your child has a current injury that affects their mobility please contact the school and we will be happy to arrange a drop off location that support the needs of your child. However, in other cases please do not access the staff carpark. I am fearful that if the current behaviour continues someone will suffer very serious injury.

Ms Leisa Conroy, Principal
