The lone factor that irrefutably changes our lives is education. True education is a summation of intelligence and character. We aim at teaching one and all to think acutely and critically. We have a moral obligation and responsibility to provide world class facilities and infrastructure and it is quite justified with JRU. There has been a vigorous debate across the globe on India turning up as a superpower by 2020. CO - CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

It is a hard truth that we can eat with false teeth, but can’t see with a glass eye. That is why the university feels concerned about the eye health of its students and staff and hence offered free eye check up camp for all the members of JRU on 15th April and 2nd May this year. The university, in association with Vasan Eye Care Hospital, Ranchi, conducted the two-day free eye checkup and screening camp in the campus. The camp was co-ordinated by Dr. Neha Keshri, Dept of Applied Science. Almost 300 persons (both students and staff) were examined for their vision.

JOB SEARCHING STRATEGIES : WINNING STEPS FOR SUCCESS

FACULTY CORNER

Prof. TrishaDepartment of Life Skills & Career Management Cell, Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi

A job consists of duties, responsibilities and tasks which are performed by an individual in an exchange for pay. As per research, 5 million graduates pass out every year out of which approx 1.5 million are engineers, 3 lakh are MBA graduates, 5-6 lakh are IT/computer engineers and others. It is quite unfortunate that out of 5 million professionals, very less percentage are employable. A majority of the graduates face the risk of being unemployed. One of the reasons behind this is the lack of proper soft skills and job searching strategies. Mentioned below are winning Job searching strategies which an individual must go through to identify themselves with their job or role and glean motivation from its distinctiveness or practicality:

• Describe your preference: As you begin looking for a job, make a checklist of your, skills, achievements, interests, goals, experience,

values, time commitment, location, and personal expectations (pay rate, job roles and responsibilities, career growth , its linkage with your

long-term goal). To aid with your application must conduct research on employer to answer some of these questions.

• Use job search portals: There are several job portals and links like indeed, timesjob, naukri, shine, careesma, monster, etc. that can help

you to find the preferred jobs for you. Make and update your profile more oftenly to remain assertive to the potential employers.

• Resume and Cover letter: Prepare a perfect resume and cover letter to apply for jobs. It plays a vital role when you present yourself in

front of employers. While attending any Walk-in, job fairs or inquiring about any job you must carry your updated resume and cover letter

along with you.

• Social Networking Sites: There are few professional social networking sites like linkedln, Pinterest, etc. you must take the advantage,

update your resume and get connected to the employers.

• References: Build a good relationship with the people you feel can help you to link with potential employers like peer group, neighbours,

professors etc. Keep in touch and send seasonal greetings to them. Take the membership of alumni association & training & placement

cell.

• Employment agencies: Good and specialized employment agencies can be one of the best sources to get your preferred jobs. Recognize

and get registered to those agencies.

• Don’t say ‘No”: Short term jobs are a gateway to gain experience, learn skills, and earn money while looking for a permanent position.

Don’t try to say ‘No’ to the first job but only when the targeted jobs have at least 75% of the stated qualifications.

• Contact Companies directly: Check the updates for the recruitment and try to contact the companies directly via mail, phones or in-

person. Post your Resume and cover letter to the company’s website.

• Keep Records: Keep careful records of applied jobs, interview faced, references, employment agencies and communication with people

to do follow- up actions.

• Practice Job Interviews: ‘Practice makes a man perfect’ a very true saying. Hold mock interviews with your family and friends. You can

also rehearse in front of mirror.

Job searching isn’t just about applying for jobs and hoping to get called for an interview anymore. You should put your 100% effort and you will definitely achieve a good position in your life.

AGRICULTURE AS WE KNOW IT

S.M. PrasadDepartment of Agriculture, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Jharkhand Rai University

“Agriculture as we know it needs to disappear. We can design better and healthier proteins than we get from nature.” - Craig Venter

Future of Indian Agriculture has to be bright and sustainable. Food security is dependent on the growth and prosperity of the farmer and the yield(s) of food crops and allied commodities.

Climate Smart Agriculture

Agriculture in the country is dependent upon the vagaries of weather, particularly the onset and continuance of rains. Excess and deficiency of rainfall leads to flood or draught, respectively. Agriculture is also prone to climate change which affects farming practices and crop yields. Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) approaches include, Landscape, Water, Soil, Energy and Genetic resource management. Current weather forecasts, seasonal forecasts, long-term climate trends are integrated under CSA.

Technology from IsraelThe Agriculture in Israel is characterized by technological advancement, automatic and controlled mechanization and high quality seeds and saplings. Water management or efficient use of available water resources is one such problem that has been very successfully resolved by Israel. Under the subsurface Drip irrigation program Israel has taught us lesson for using the treated waste water. Israel is known for rigorous research on developing hybrid seeds of high yield potential and adaptability to various stresses. Israel exports worth of $150 million seeds and also caters the domestic needs.

Surveillance by DronesDespite mechanization, farming in the country involves human labour and legwork. Farmers walk down crop fields checking for plant health, weeds, insect-pests and other signs of distress. It is often hard to notice diminished photosynthesis or signs of infection/infestation early enough to initiate remedial measures to avoid large losses. Routine surveillance by drones can help farmers to record problems faster to prevent crop losses. It can also help farmers use agrochemicals in a need-based manner to reduce costs and water-soil-air pollution. In the long-term, the data generated by drones can help gain a more accurate and detailed picture of how crops are reacting to these management strategies, which can lead to more effective use of limited resources. Even for organic culture, monitoring for disease and drought could be made easier and effective with aerial sensors.

Rainbow Revolution holds the keyThere is a need to herald a rainbow revolution by making a shift from wheat-rice cycle to other cereals and pulses. Data from 2013 reveal that India’s average yield of cereals per hectare is far less than that of many countries, but the difference is huge when compared to China. For instance, our average yield per hectare is 39% below than that of China and for rice, the figure is 46%.

Precision FarmingPrecision farming allows farmers to regulate with precision the application of various inputs in terms of time and quantity. It helps maximize input use efficiency. This technology, in near future, will be useful for small and fragmented land-holdings also. Time is not far when concerns like low input-use efficiency and their harmful effects on our resource- base, which is important to reduce cost of agricultural production and to maintain desired levels of productivity will gain strategic importance, opening scope for precision farming on a fairly large scale.

Suraj Kumar Dash B.Tech VII Mechanical

Increasing reliability on mechatronics system has made the field of automobile engineering more advanced and sophisticated. Lots of new inventions and innovations have been introduced. These are the fallouts of rigorous research carried out over the years by various R & D departments.

A tiny example of fuel injection system in the vehicles is the evidence of increasing role of mechatronics in the automobile sector. Carburetors did a great job over the years to mix up air and fuel before entering into the combustion chamber. But with increasing advancement it has been replaced by more improved technology MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection), controlled by ECU (Electronic controlled unit) which sprinkles only the required amount of fuel and mixes with air. Thus the inclusion of MPFI meliorates the efficiency of the whole system.

One of the most recent and charismatic examples of the role of mechatronics system in automobile sector can be seen in the recent auto expo where more than 70 vehicles were launched. One that experts hailed as the most significant was Maruti Suzuki CELERIO, the first affordable mass segment gearless hatchback. It comes with AMT(Automatic Manual Transmission). AMT is an electro-hydraulic mechanism for automating manual transmission which derives from Formula 1.

Multitude of other recent coinages like V2V (Vehicle to vehicle) communication, pre-collision technology, driverless cars etc. are the remarkable exemplification of the advancement in the automobile industry.

Along with its contribution in the automobile sector, mechatronics has played a vital role in the manufacturing plants such as iron and steel making industries. One can observe machineries equipped with advanced electronic systems which play a crucial role in the productivity of the plant as well.

Thus, we can conclude that the engineering minds have done a commendable job by using these sophisticated electronic systems in different segments of engineering to uplift its level. Day by day we are entering into more refined scenario where one can expect a lot more evolved technologies to be introduced as the Japanese automobile giant TOYOTA has started to develop flying cars by the end of 2020.

Mechatronics becomes vital element for Automobile Industry

What I liked most in my University is the "Career Management Cell" which works hard for placement drives. Right now, I am serving Citizens Foundation as an MIS cum IT Expert.
