NICARCNEWS NAVISTAR INTERNATIONAL CHICAGO AREA RETIREMENT CLUB Dear NICARC Members: Your Board of Directors has been very busy this year with the club's operations. It usually meets four or five times annually to plan events, handle membership and accounting matters. Navistar International Chicago Area Retirement Club is a non-profit organization and primarily relies on dues to continue its operations. Currently there are 428 members on the rolls and we continue to add new retirees and as well as those who opt to join. Dues billing for 2010 is included in the holiday luncheon reservation form. This financial support is vital to the club. 'vVe rely on your comments and suggestions to keep our club vibrant and successful. Please feel free to contact the board by mail, through our website email ([email protected]). or on the Table Talk sheets at the luncheon table. The spring luncheon, a summer outing and an annual meeting/holiday luncheon are traditional events. Jack Allan, Vice President, North American Truck Group, presented a very informative and well received program at the :\1ay luncheon. One of our goals this year is to encourage and better facilitate interaction between members. So, in July, we tried something new when club members enjoyed a wonderful buffet lunch at the Oak Brook Bath and Tennis Club and the opportunity to socialize and exercise their "brains" and/or senses of humor in playing various games \Nith old and new friends. V've are listening to our comments and suggestions, and will try a program slightly different than in the past. At the December 9 luncheon this year, the morning begins at 9:30 a.m. at Drury Lane Oak Brook when coffee and rolls are available and raft1e tickets go on sale. The cash bar opens at 11:00 a.m. Doors to the dining room will open at approximately 11:30 a.m. where you can select a table, hear soft holiday music and mingle in that room as well. At 12:00 noon, a very short election meeting will be called to order, when you will have the opportunity to elect the new incoming president. Current Vice President Doug Nyhus has been nominated for this position. A delicious lunch will follow. Rather than wait until the end, we plan to award raffle prizes periodically through lunch and the afternoon program. After lunch our entertainer Keyboard Artist and Vocalist Edizon Dayao will play and sing holida music and requested songs. A few"surprise" entertainers will appear this year for your enjoyment. Thank you for all that you do to support the activities of NICARC. I also want to thank each and every board member for volunteering their time and many talents. They worked in a variety of Navistar departments and locations and all share the great spirit of camaraderie that each of you have as well. It has been my pleasure to work with them for you this year. I know that with your support the club will continue to be a great source of fellowship and continuity for Navistar retirees. Kindest regards, Karen Dolinick, President

Sophie Kohut writes that she is 92 and using a walker. She continues to be a NICARC member and enjoys the newsletters. She lives in \-""infield, Illinois.

A note from Jurg and Rose Brunner who are visiting us from Switzerland and who attended our May luncheon. Jurg joined the Swiss finance company of International Harvester in 1969 in Zurich. He worked as a financial analyst at Corporate Treasury in Chicago (1970, 1971 and 1972) before assuming the manacrement of IHFIN until 1982. Our best Americano friends, Pat and Jim lovett, made us aware of the retirement luncheon during this \'ieek of our visit to the Chicago area and encouraged us to participate. We are having a ball meeting the true"IH Spirit"vvith all the participants and meeting former colleagues! This event will certainly be the high-light of our 5 week trip through the U.S.

Eileen Strong let us know that she is still on the Executive Board of the Women's Federation of DuPage County, as well as getting back on the Executive Board of the Women's Club of Hinsdale. My niece and nephew each have a boy and a girl who are the loves of their lives.

Jack Gartner has been in touch with Bob and Ellen Durnberger who have recently purchased another home in a suburb of Nashville. He also contacted June Geiger and Gloria Guastaferri and discovered they now are not in the best of health. Chuck Tracy is still active at 91 years of age and we see him often. We believe Earl and Lois Henley no longer reside in Florida but have no knowledge where they now live.

Melva Walker says she has been working for months on Peter DiCeanni's campaign for mayor of Elmhurst and he 'NON! But actually, the most important happening v,'as the birth of 'my new great granddaughter Abigael Leah May on May 7, 2009 at 5 lbs,7 oz.

Doug and Winnie Nyhus spent a week on a lake in northern Minnesota this summer with their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed excellent, but cool weather, some fishing, boating and relaxation vvith the family. They were also able to reconnect with several old friends from high school and college days. Later in the summer they traveled to Fargo, ND to visit their daughter and family and meet their new granddaughter who was born July 20th.

Ralph Wilson reports: My wife Ellie and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. The weddin cr took place in Milwaukee on October 17, 1959 and our honeymoon \-vas a car trip around Lake Michigan.
