From the Principal: As you are aware, this is an extremely busy time of the year. We do our best to keep you informed of everything that is coming up but please bear with us when we forget and only give short notice for events. This newsletter has all the upcoming events listed. Please keep track of them. Thanks, once again to our hardworking P&C. As you will have noticed, our covered walkway is almost nearing completion. This was entirely funded by the P&C and they have further works planned that will certainly benefit our students. Our students are very lucky once again to have an excursion provided by the P&C. they have covered the cost of the bus and entry to Oakvale Farm on Wednesday 12th December. This is a substantial cost and we really appreciate your support on behalf of our students. Year 2 students have two more short visits to Maitland Public School on Monday and Tuesday, the remaining students attend school as usual. For our new parents, there is important information about our end of year celebrations and the sharing of Christmas cards and party day. We are gradually adjusting to having our new gates and as you will have noticed, we do forget to unlock them. Please call in at the office and let the ladies know. Gates will be unlocked at 8.30am in the morning and 2.45pm at the end of the day. We really appreciate you waiting for them to be unlocked. From the Admin Office All outstanding payments need to finalised ASAP, If you have any concerns please contact the office. Year 2 News and Transitions The Year 2 students that are attending Maitland Public School next year had their first Orientation on Wednesday and all had a great day. There are two more planned visits but these will only be for a short time, 9.30am to 10.15am on Monday 3rd December and Tuesday 4th December. The students will be walking to and from Maitland Public School with Mrs Sellens. If your Year 2 child is not attending Maitland Public School it is advisable to speak to the school they will be attending and plan some Orientation visits. Magic Pudding We all enjoyed going to Maitland Library for The Magic Pudding play, it was the 100th anniversary of the book and the library staff did a lovely job. Aboriginal Art Day Today we have been working to complete two more artworks which will be placed behind the Bush Medicine Garden. The students loved participating in this. Pedestrian Crossing Just a reminder when you are using the pedestrian crossing that you must wait for the crossing supervisor to give you the ok to use the crossing. This is a very busy road and we need everyone to be safe and respectful when using the crossing.

Russ the Bus We had a visit today from Russ the Bus, this is a beautifully decorated bus that comes to schools and does an interactive show for students, the kids loved this and they were all able to choose a book to take home.

Movie and Pizza night What a great night had by all last night at the Year 2 Pizza and Movie night, everyone enjoyed pizza and garlic bread, then all found a comfy spot to watch the movie Captain Underpants which was very funny, good behavior was displayed by all kids.

BASC We are now taking enrolments / re-enrolments for next year. If you would like to enroll / re- enroll your child/ren please see the BASC staff for an enrolment form or call on 0488070449 P &C Get your dancing shoes on for our P & C school disco on Thursday 6th December 5.30pm – 7.30pm. Please make sure your orders are in by Tuesday 4th December

Christmas craft We are having a Christmas craft day for each class, this is a time where the students will be making Christmas things. Parent volunteers are welcome, if you can assist please see your child’s teacher. Year 1 and Year 2 on Tuesday 11th December 9.30am – 11.00am and Kindergarten on Thursday 9.30am – 11.00am Oakvale Farm On Wednesday 12th December the whole school is going to Oakvale Farm. We will be leaving school at 9.00am sharp so don’t be late. We will arrive at Oakvale Farm around 10.00am, we have an itinerary in the permission note with this newsletter. Oakvale Farm has a new splash bay where kids can have some fun water activities, so students will need their swimmers and a towel to participate in these activities. They can wear their swimmers under their uniform and bring undies to change back into or bring their swimmers in their bag, there are changing rooms provided, this will be supervised by teachers. Christmas Concert We are having our Christmas Concert on Tuesday 18th December from 6.00pm. Families are asked to bring a picnic to have with your children in our playground. Students will be performing at 6.30pm followed by some Christmas songs to enjoy. Last day of Term The last day of term is Wednesday 19th December, this day is the only day for the students to give out Christmas cards to each other. It is also Class party day where each class will have a classroom party at lunchtime. Students are asked to bring a plate of party food to share. (no peanut or peanut products please) Students are also asked to bring a wrapped gift to the value of $5.00 gender neutral to put under the tree to share. The students enjoy giving and receiving these gifts and it is a lovely sharing time. At the end of the day students will all gather at the front of the school to make an arch to give our Year 2 students a wonderful send off from Nillo Infants School, Parents with children leaving the school should bring their cameras and their tissues, it is a very moving and proud moment to enjoy. A special thankyou to Henry who entered a paper plane making contest and won then kindly donated his prize money to the school to purchase some lovely new books.

NILLO SCOOP SCOOP ON 2 GREEN – BY ALEXANDER M

We have been learning about maths and we are doing fractions. We are also doing our own ads with Mrs Swannack where we get to go in groups and work on our ads, mine is on a box that is never to be opened.

We have been doing maths and we have been doing a tally of the movie and pizza night and we had to mark off what kind of pizza they wanted and which movie they voted for, the movie was funny and the pizza was yum.

Scoop on year 1 – Jonah P This week our silkworms are in cocoons they are going to come out of the cocoon and become silk moths. In maths we have been doing doubles and we are using friends of 10 when we are playing maths games. Scoop on Kinder – Olive G We have been learning about the olden days and we looked at some pictures of old irons and ironing boards and we also looked at old cars and how they are different to new cars, new cars go faster. We had our movie night last night and the movie was Captain Underpants and it was funny.

EXCURSION TO OAKVALE FARM

Our whole school will be going to visit Oakvale Farm on Wednesday 12th December. Travel will be by a (seat-belted) bus and the students will be supervised by Mrs. Sellens, Miss Dunlop, Mrs. Merriman, Mrs Swannack and Mrs Coffey. Students will need their school bags with fruitbreak, recess, lunch, Swimmers, towel and a hat. (changing rooms provided and supervised by teachers) This visit is made possible by our very generous P&C association which is paying for the entry to the farm and bus fare for all students. ITINERARY

9.00am leave school 10.00am arrive at Oakvale Farm – fruit break, toilet, walk around 11.00am baby animal feeding, cow milking

11.15am recess 11.30am tractor ride

12.00pm reptile show 12.30pm koala talk / patting 1.00pm lunch 1.15pm splash Bay 2.00pm leave to come back to school

3.00pm usual pick up time
