Nittany Lion Club members have the opportunity to make a sports specific annual gift and receive NLC level recognition and points. This unique opportunity allows a NLC member:

• To designate a portion, or all of their annual NLC gift to the sport(s) of their choice.

• A sports specific gift is a great way to support the team of your choice. It also provides our coaches with additional funding to address specific needs of their program, not already accounted for in their budgets.

• The only NLC benefits that would not be provided are the privilege to purchase season tickets and parking for Penn State Football and Basketball (men’s and women’s). The privilege to purchase season tickets and parking would still require an unrestricted gift (Levi Lamb Fund) to the Nittany Lion Club.

suCCess In theCLassRoom• The NCAA reported that Penn State

student-athletes earned a school record 90 percent Graduation Success Rate, 11 points higher than the national Division I average. Twenty-three of Penn State’s 25 teams earned a GSR at or above the national average of 79 percent or higher (track and field and cross country count as one sport).

• Five Penn State student-athletes earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-Amer-ica honors, giving the Nittany Lions 26 such honorees in the past three years.

• Penn State has earned 118 Academic All-Americans since 1993-94, its first full year in the Big Ten, a total higher than every other conference institution all-time (program began in 1952). Penn State has 172 Academic All-Americans all-time, the third-highest total among all NCAA institutions.

• The NCAA reported that the four-year federal graduation rate average for University Park student-athletes was 80 percent, significantly higher than the national average of 64 percent, and second to Northwestern (88) among Big Ten Conference institutions.

2012 Nittany Lion Club Benefits

Nittany Lion Club members are given first priority in purchasing available football and basketball tickets based on their NLC point total. Points are assigned as follows:4 1 point for each $50 contributed since becoming a member4 2 points for each year of membership4 10 points for Penn State Alumni status (maximum of 10 points per membership)4 20 points for lifetime members of the Penn State Alumni Association (one time only)4 10 points for former Penn State varsity athletes at the University Park Campus (one time only)

Priority Point System

All contributions to the Nittany Lion Club are considered gifts to Penn State and are credited at full value for purpose of the donor’s gift record at the University. However, a contribution to the Nittany Lion Club that entitles the contributor to purchase football and basketball tickets is 80 percent deductible as a charitable contribution for income tax purposes, according to Internal Revenue Code, Section 170(l). In addition, the Internal Revenue Service has ruled that this 80 percent portion of your gift is only tax deductible to the extent that it exceeds the value of the benefits you receive. The Nittany Lion Club has estimated the fair market value of the benefits described in this brochure, and that information is available upon request.
