to 2011 NITTANY LION CLUB MEMBERS!Penn State Athletics extends their sincere gratitude to all Nittany Lion Club members for their passion, dedication and philanthropic support of our entire athletics program. Your contributions are essential in providing over 800 student-athletes with the best possible resources to succeed in both the classroom and on the playing surface.

“It’s enjoyable to work with people who have a passion and want to support our program and support Penn State.”

– Russ Rose, Women’s Volleyball Coach

“I believe that every student-athlete that comes through here should have the opportunity to train and compete in a first class facility. With private support, that will be possible.”

– Erica Walsh, Women’s Soccer Coach

What it means to be a Nittany Lion:

PENN STATE STUDENT-ATHLETESWhat your support means:

“Being a Lady Lion means being Penn State proud and representing our University with excellence.”

– Alex Bentley, Women’s Basketball

“To be a Nittany Lion means to recognize tradition here at Penn State, especially in a family sense. My brother came here four years before me. To follow in his footsteps and to come to a University that is as great a place as here means a lot to me. It means the world to me to be a Nittany Lion here at Penn State University.”

– Matt Mackrides, Men’s Lacrosse

“Being a Nittany Lion means representing something bigger than yourself. Doing things for the better of your community. Representing integrity. Representing honor. Representing tradition of those from the past, those now, and those of the future.”

– Kristen Rodman, Women’s Swimming

“I am proud to be a Nittany Lion because of the amazing sense of community that comes along with this school. All the alumni, all the fans, players that have been here before and the students are supporting you, cheering you, and wanting you to do well. It is such a great feeling.”

– Lexi Marton, Women’s Soccer

“I would just like to thank all of the fans and alumni who helped out with student-athlete scholarships. I don’t think people realize how much that means to us. It gives us an opportunity to come to a school like Penn State and get a great education and play for a prestigious football program. Without a scholarship, I don’t think I could have come to a school like Penn State, so they played a huge role helping me become a better man, a better educator and a better football player.”

– Devon Still, Football

“This is Deja McClendon from the women’s volleyball team. I just want to say thank you so much to the Nittany Lion Club and all of the boosters. We thank you so much for everything that you give to our program. I just want to let you know that we are studying hard and working hard to not only play volleyball, but learn and get a great education. From my team, I just want to say thank you.”

– Deja McClendon, Women’s Volleyball

“My name is David Taylor, and I just want to say how appreciative I am for all of the support. Not only academically, but also athletically. Not only do I get to pursue a degree at the best school in the country, I get to wrestle for the best school in the country. I just want to say thanks.”

– David Taylor, Wrestling

Nittany Lion Club members have the opportunity to make a sports specific annual gift and receive NLC level recognition and points. This unique opportunity allows a NLC member:

• To designate a portion, or all of their annual NLC gift to the sport(s) of their choice.

• A sports specific gift is a great way to support the team of your choice. It also provides our coaches with additional funding to address specific needs of their program, not already accounted for in their budgets.

• The only NLC benefits that would not be provided are the privilege to purchase season tickets and parking for Penn State Football and Basketball (men’s and women’s). The privilege to purchase season tickets and parking would still require an unrestricted gift (Levi Lamb Fund) to the Nittany Lion Club.

2012 Nittany Lion Club Benefits

Nittany Lion Club members are given first priority in purchasing available football and basketball tickets based on their NLC point total. Points are assigned as follows:4 1 point for each $50 contributed since becoming a member4 2 points for each year of membership4 10 points for Penn State Alumni status (maximum of 10 points per membership)4 20 points for lifetime members of the Penn State Alumni Association (one time only)4 10 points for former Penn State varsity athletes at the University Park Campus (one time only)

Priority Point System

All contributions to the Nittany Lion Club are considered gifts to Penn State and are credited at full value for purpose of the donor’s gift record at the University. However, a contribution to the Nittany Lion Club that entitles the contributor to purchase football and basketball tickets is 80 percent deductible as a charitable contribution for income tax purposes, according to Internal Revenue Code, Section 170(l). In addition, the Internal Revenue Service has ruled that this 80 percent portion of your gift is only tax deductible to the extent that it exceeds the value of the benefits you receive. The Nittany Lion Club has estimated the fair market value of the benefits described in this brochure, and that information is available upon request.
